Thanks Bob... I know you built one of these a while ago and it turned out pretty good so I thought I'd give it a try. Cheers

Just finished this kit and it turned out OK. It's an old molding but seems pretty accurate when finished and has a few nice details. Has a number of issues like extra thick glass, under hood mold lines showing through the hood, headlight lenses don't actually fit inside the chrome housing, and maybe the worst decals I have ever used. Some decals actually just fell off after drying. I added under hood details like heater hoses, plug wires and dipstick and the engine turned out pretty well. Stance was a little nose high so I flipped the front spindles upside down and it brought the front down to a more reasonable height. A lot of BMF to do on this model but many of the trim lines are straight so that helped. Paint is just 2 coats of rustoleum medium blue. Nice enough result.

Built a version of this just recently. Old molding and very simple kit but the decal paint scheme is fun and goes on nicely... -
Great paint... nicely done

The year was 1970 and I was in grade 11 in high school. Gas was about 35 cents per gallon and I remember I put Thrush mufflers on it ( Even got the bird sticker). Unfortunately mine did not look nearly as good as the pictures I posted but it was rust free with no dents and pretty good paint.

My first car was 1961 Chevy impala SS that my dad bought for me when I was 15. He paid $115 for it and bought form a co-worker. 283 with powerglide, white with the red stripe insert and red interior. I was driving it on the day I turned 16 +one day. Drove it to High school everyday on a allowance of $1.25 per week and whatever else I could scrounge up. I remember a couple of times actually putting in a single dime worth of gas. Started to modify it right away... put chrome Baby Moon hubcaps on, blacked out the front grill and along the lower edge of the body. It had a radio that still used tubes and worked intermittently . Learned a lot about cars and maintaining them and also how to manage money... learned valuable lessons. I went on to own 3 more Chevy SS cars... 64, 65 and 67. Actually just finishing up the AMT 1961 Chevy SS model kit right now and will post it soon. Cameras were not as common as they are now so it seems many of us don't have actual pictures of our early cars... too bad. (Included a couple of representative pictures) Cheers Dan
