What should I have for breakfast tomorrow?
Junkman replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I want a brandy. And a cigar. Thank you. -
Is this from the guy in Korea or Hong-Kong who never packs the kits in cartons? Just wraps them in this greenish paper? I'll never buy from him again. Buyers, beware!

Beyond the Twilight Zone

I just think his outlook on reality is too different from the rest of the world's. If you want a tammy lola, go shop elsewhere. -
Irrespective of the outcome, I just wouldn't do this kind of stuff with my prized collectible car. I've seen it being done at meetings and found it stupid. This is how not to treat and old car. Cars intended to do burnouts are modified accordingly.

NO OFFENSE TAKEN
Junkman replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wrote it before and I write it again: I am still looking forward to the in depth tutorial you announced for making real leather interiors. Remember, you have already shown us pics of the hides you are going to use, the tan and the almost white one. But for some inexplicable reason, somebody locked the thread. -
Longer Poly Inserts for Aoshima Wheels?
Junkman replied to Kombi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Usually screws are provided to affix them to the kingpins, right? I used longer screws and made shims to take out the play from round Evergreen tubing. Poblem is you can then only display your model with the front wheels straight, since the already generous scrub radius is amplified. Widening the rear track should be pretty straightforward. -
Beyond the Twilight Zone

OK, the reissue listed for 75$ sold for 168$ in the end. Stiff, but that's what is paid for them obviously. Now, if I'm VERY optimistic, a mint first release may bring twice the amount, provided you indeed find a collector of Tamiya 1/12 kits, which may be tough outside Japan. 7500$? Either these guys know something all of us don't know, or it's the kind of optimism of the man thinking his wife gave up smoking cigarettes when he starts finding cigar butts around the house. -
What do you call these round things you invented? You know, the ones you put underneath the Corvette?

I think you are still mixing something up. The Flipnose is an old MPC kit, which is now sold under the AMT brand. The only thing it has in common with the 'real' AMT 53 Ford is the fact that it is a 53 Ford too. This is the only thing they have in common. They are otherwise neiter related, nor in-laws. Now, apart from the colour it is molded in, the decals and the box art, the Flipnose has never changed. It never shod any parts, or picked any up. The AMT one did the same until at least the Cruising USA issue. For later releases, you will need to ask the younger modellers out there, since this is the latest release I ever owned.

See, Treehugger Dave obviously does.

Yes, this simulating stitching or seams or piping is what I would like to learn.

Hence my expectation was that after the 'teaser' pics and some initial generic explanation of the principles, the in depth step by step tutorial would commence. Alas, this was imho suddenly interrupted.

Slammed, Euro-Style Evo VIII (Lots of mods, different direction)
Junkman replied to Cobrawannabe's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This whole HellaFlush (where does this term stem from?) movement is so nicely ridiculous that I MUST make one too! Great job on your Evo, honest. -
See, that's exactly why I wanted to learn how to apply real leather. For my 1/24-5 models, I always use Revell semi gloss paint and apply it with a paint brush of all things. I am very satisfied with the authentic look this generates. But - you guessed it - there is a but. These old Hubley/Gabriel metal kits are far from realistic to begin with. I love them just for that. I call it 'character', a bit like an old Tonka toy or a Märklin locomotive has. A real leather interior would admittedly not look as realistic as paint, but oh would it nicely ooze character in a Hubley, ay? Add to this the complete absence of door panels, which I thought I might have learned how to make in this thread. See where I'm coming from?

No leather. No tutorial. No interior.

I guess I'll paint the seats of my Hubley Duesenberg semi gloss then?
