Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)
Junkman replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My '59 Electra 225 'vert does look mighty fine with its Liechtenstein plates and orange indicators, though. Yes, it's a gimmmick, but I've seen one in Vaduz. Heck, I might put Iran plates on a Challenger, because I've seen oodles of superb Mopar Muscle in Tehran. However, I must agree with you and James on a general principle. I would build these Golfs German spec, no matter where I am on this planet, complete with - yikes! - OMGLHD. And how about finishing it off with a Salzburg, or Vienna plate, just to be different? Even in the deepest of the deep of the USA, I couldn't bring myself toward building a Euro car model with ghastly 5mph bumpers and sealed beams and side markers and what have you. I like exotic plates and now have a few Guam ones printed for upcoming Detroit tin models. This is car MODELLING. A bit of internationality on the shelf is the salt in the soup, isn't it? Like in real life. I love meeting foreigners and have been one myself most of my life. We can always dream of faraway places. I find this romantic. I'll put Venezia plates on my next Mercedes model... -
Yep. Let's see what else they unveil in Nürnberg. They are always good for a surprise, as we saw. Those Renners must have sold a treat, if they decide to tool up something new that soon afterwards. Proves my point on many levels. Why nobody ever listens to me despite I'm always right, is a phenomenon that will never cease to amaze me...

They will definitely build into very nice curbsides, that's for sure. The lines and proportions aren't bad at all.

The H van is available as a diecast.

I agree that those kits only really make sense when you get them at a reasonable price. They aren't really bad, but they are oveerall a bit disappointing, especially considering that there already were better detailed 1/25 kits around, when these were made. One project lingering in my forehead for a long time is building all 6 tri-Chevies, and putting them onto a scratchbuilt car transporter hauled by the Monogram Peterbilt, or Kenworth. BTW, the '55 Tbird kit contains a superb set of Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, which would do no harm to the Lindberg T bucket.

In the case of Franklin, how can "Chinese officials" confiscate tools that are in Korea?
-
So out of all the kits that could potentially be reissued, they selected this bloody rubbish? Are they spiking the water in South Bend, or what is going on? I IZ DIZAPPOINT
-
So next is a Renault 16 then?
-
How/where from do/did you get them?

Actually that grille came in 1968. It looks like the 1974-1978 grille is incuded as well. Heller just released a post 1978 version without the sunroof, and it looks like that one even has the updated dashboard and concealed door hinges. I wonder whether it's a Heller specific tool, or yet another variation of the Ebbro one. The Heller kit also contains accessories and decals for various French public services. I hope there will be a decal explosion from the French aftermarket (there are superb decal makers in France!), especially for the F4 van.

The Junkman! Fantomas! Plus of course about 3 gazillion other movie cars. Or those:

New kits with flaws.
Junkman replied to Dave Metzner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nothing is ever perfect, but Moebius kits are orderly and the prices are fair, particularly in international comparison. Heck, I wish Round2 would reissue the Craftsman series, how's that for being easy to please? Moebius is head and shoulders above some of the rubbish we had to do with in the past. -
Attempt at Britsh humour gone wrong. I'm glad you like my model, thank you. I don't.

I agree. If I built the second car, I'd make the small wing. -

This fake arm was auctioned on Ebay in 2012 and got a final bid of over two bags. Here is the link to the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/330759706420 -

^^ Those are both showing the first car. However, the second (Logghe chassis) car did run initially with the wing that's in the kit. One has to look no further than the original box art photo: This was shuffled around quite a bit. There was this exotic configuration: The smaller wing: And occasionally it was run with no wing at all, believe it, or not. -
This could easily turn into a community build, if we aren't careful...

That scratchbuilt one is flippin' ace, Mr Mesner. -
I love daft Corvette customizations! Get a load of this atrocity: I'd love to do this to a 1/25 one. That golden glue bomb must be saved!

I'd prefer the one that ended up in the Bakersfield land fill. Alas, I might manage not. -

It all depends on which incarnaton of the car you want to model. It morphed quite a lot during its lifetime. However, the frame is wrong for all manifestations. The first thing I noticed (before I noticed the wheel issue) in the kit, is that the tubes protruding forward are tapered. On the real car, they are parallel. The real car its quite level with the ground, although with coniderable clearance, and the engine was installed with a rake. The model does the opposite. The scoop is wrong for each and every incarnation of the real car. The seat is far from accurate. There are countless other inaccuracies I can make out, too many to list, and maybe even too many to bother. I could not find the decals on their website today. Could you please give me the link? The wheels supplied with the kit I have are decidedly different from the spoked wheels used temporarily on the real car. They lack the inner row of spokes. Also, the car is much more remembered with what I think were Magnesium front wheels, hence I would prefer to model it with them. I think they are on the current version of the real car as well. I'm a huge fan of the car, and am privileged enough to have met Wild Willie. Contrary to his reputation, he was one of the most soft spoken gentlemen I've ever encountered. What I was most impressed with, is the amount of personal time he was willing to spend with someone just walking up to him and pestering him with questions. If you'd have met him outside the drag racing scene, you would have rather associated him with the SoCal intellectual philosphers and artsy bunch. Mousie was just stoned, in a Tijuana sort of way. The two were just made for each other. They both were really working class, and neither was associated in any way with the automotive trade. They still managed to give the entire professional crowd a bloody good run for their money. I like that. Also, few people know, that Mr Borsch suffered from the rare disease of narcolepsia. On several occasions, this proved life threatening in drag racing, but it couldn't keep him away from the sport. Anyway, I have countless reference pictures of the real car, and the GMP 1/18 scale diecast. I want to build that kit into a model just to prove to myself, what level of a modeller I really am. Also as a hommage to the real car and the men who campaingned it. I will never be able to make a truly accurate replica, my modelling skills are way too mediocre for that. But I'll give my best. -

What an absolute tosspot. Now I feel better... I noticed that, too. In typical MPC fashion, the kit depicts a car that never existed. However, if you want to build a model of the Winged Express, it's the only game in town. Unless you have a better suggestion, that is.
