  1. Beautiful build! Love the color and all the foil work is excellent. Lots of great details.
  2. Great looking Monte. Color fits the car perfectly, very neat build with good details.
  3. Ok, here we go! I haven’t built a model since about 1990 so this will be my first time out of the gate in many years. I had a couple of these kits back in the day, and, like several of the kits in my stash, I wanted to build them again and try to build them much better than I did then or even just get them built, lol. I picked kind of a “blah” kit to start off with. This first post on this thread is just some pictures of the initial dry assembly. Some things I see right off, looks like the rear axle needs to move back about a 1/16” to center the wheels in the wheel wells which won’t be a big deal. The engine looks like it’s going to sit low in the engine bay, I’ll have to see more about that as I go. I think the front inner fenders are incorrect for this body style, (maybe previous generation truck), but I’ll be leaving that alone. The firewall and inner fenders need some fillers added to close up some gaps. This kit is a study as far as details go. Some areas like the dash and door panels have pretty good detail, under the hood and on the body they were trying, but elsewhere, especially underneath, is the “kinda blah” part. Thus I’ll probably not spend a lot of time on this area, just paint it black. This will be a good kit to start honing my building skills, though. If anyone has built this kit and know of anything else I should watch for feel free to chime in. I’ll have the first progress update in a few days, hope y’all will check in.
  4. I got them on eBay, I don’t know how to post a link but here’s a screenshot of the listing I bought from: Since I haven’t tried these out yet, I went down to the bench and tried one of the finer grits on the parting line on some scrap sprue. It seems to do a good job smoothing the lines down, but as you can see in the second picture, it clogs up the file pretty quickly and doesn’t wipe clean on my pants leg like a regular sanding stick or sand paper would. These may not work out very well, I’ll have to do some more testing with them over the weekend. At least it’s not an expensive loss if they don’t work out.
  5. Lol, I’ll get that mess of tape straightened out soon. I have some organiziers in mind I’ll get this weekend for that. The different colored things are glass nail files in different grits. Saw those recommended on a YouTube video and thought I would give them a try, if they don’t work out I’ll replace them with something else.
  6. I’ve made it a point to set my desk up to be able to keep neat and organized from the start. If I’m using tools regularly during any portion of a build, I’ll leave it on the table, but if I just need to make one cut, I’ll get the knife or whatever out of the drawer, cut, then put it away. Also put away everything when I quit for the day, this way, things don’t get lost or damaged. With all that said, I’ve always tried to work like this when woodworking, etc., but always wound up in the middle of a cluttered mess until I would have to stop and clean up before I could continue working, lol. Hopefully I can keep up the clean work space on the modeling desk. The small cabinet under the desk is for different styrene strip stock and and detailing supplies. The last picture shows the drawer for plastic and metal sheet stock and tape, etc., it’s still a WIP, but will help keep things organized when I get it finished.
  7. Another cool trike! I like the brass look on the lights.
  8. This is really cool! Great job on the conversion, looks like it’s OOB. I will be stealing the sewing pin idea when I build my cobra chop.
  9. Couple of sharp Fords there. Also liking the tow truck, great weathering job.
  10. Beautiful Impala! Like your display, looks like ‘back in the day’.
  11. After I commented on this bike yesterday, I had the thought that it would be cool to do all six in color shift paint, doing each one in the color that most closely matches the box art. I don’t know how long it’ll be before I get to them, but that’s my plan.
  12. You’re welcome. I bought the whole set of 6 on eBay for a decent price. Like you’re doing, I’ll probably build them as something fun and not too difficult after spending a lot of time on projects I want to detail out so I don’t get burned out, lol.
  13. Great looking model! Really like the green and white.
  14. I’ll agree with Jeff. Kind of like a real car, it’s only original once. Also, I would recommend caution polishing the body, if your Dad didn’t clear coat over the gold paint it could polish off.
  15. Another great looking bike! The blue looks really good on it. I like your display setup.
  16. Another cool trike, I like the paint, suits the bike better than the box art.
  17. The AMT Superstones Ford pick up kit has them in chrome. Easy to remove chrome if you’re wanting white wheels.
  18. Sharp truck! Very neatly done inside and out with slick paint.
  19. Cool little camper! Looks right at home behind your Pontiac.
  20. Excellent! I want to build these trikes at some point, they look like a lot of fun.
  21. Great job on the build! These are cool little trucks.
  22. Good lookin’ Road Runner!
  23. Wow! Talk about coloring outside of the lines, that’s a neat well executed custom. Great work!
