  1. Please post some pictures of the build. I've been thinking of getting one of these kit's as I had a GT6 and a Spitfire in high school & collage. It would be neet to have one of my old cars sitting on the shelf.
  2. I've used the red & blue sharpies for fittings and black for trim around windows. I did read some were that you can use the black sharpies to help keep solder from flowing too far from the PE part or tube your soldering. I think it said that you " bracket " the part with the sharpie and then add your flux and part then solder as you normaly do. The sharpie ink stops the hot solder from running too far from the point of heat contact.
  3. Neet !!! One of my favourite racing series, that along with ALMS and the now gone Champcar series. Now you've gone and got me in the mood to build one of my many Revell Trans Am Mustangs or Camaros. Thanks for sharing.
  4. According to F1.com, Massa has a concustion, swelling of the brain and skull fracture. This guys lucky to be alive.
  5. Fred sold off all of his inventory and has retired. End of story.
  6. Two canibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and say's, Does this taste funny to you ? Thank You, Thank You, I'm here all week. Thank You
  7. Hi Pat. When I was building 1/43rd F1 cars, I'd use Flitz polish for the wheels and the other parts. I'd use a polishing wheel ( that round cotton pad ) to polish the white metal parts. In the case of wire wheels, use a Q Tip to polish the parts.
  8. I got a ACE Resins BT44 from TNT Hobbies.
  9. I was in Randy's hobby shop last weekend and he was saying that he is way behind on orders. But don't worry he's working hard to get the orders out. Now I just wish he'll finish casting my 333 SP. I've been waiting a little over a year for it.
  10. Hi Nick. You can try these sites for C9 pictures. www.evil-photographer.com www.gurneyflap.com www.prototyp.org Douglas.
  11. I'd be interested as well. I cast small parts for myself, and this seems to be the next logical step. Email sent.
  12. I'd go with the Scale Motorsports PE. They generaly have more detail then Studio 27 sheets. I found this out then I bought a Tamiya Silk Cut Jaguar kt from a friend and he included a Studio 27 PE sheet with the kit. There was not much on it and I ended up looking at and buying the Scale Motor PE as well as the Carbon Fibre decals from Strada Sports.
  13. We have a shop in Toronto named Wheels & Wings. This place comes very close to the small town hobbie shops that I remember growing up in the 60's. Every time I go down to pickup paints and other stuff, the guys who run this place take the time to talk to the customers and just make your visit enjoyable. The last time I was in their shop,I spent more then two hours just hanging out and swopping building stories and tips with the others there. Just a great way to spend a few hours on a saturday afternoon.
  14. My thoughts too. I've been looking to buy a 1958 Vette the last couple of years. I'm not looking for a show type car but a car that I can drive and enjoy. All the ones I've seen on evil-bay or have gone and looked at are priced out of my reach. But with the economy slowing down, people are looking to get rid of expencive play toys that they can't afford. So prices are bound to start to drop.
  15. Well I finally found something that worked. Non Acetone nail polish remover. 10 min. of soaking and the chrome that was left fell right off. You can't buy the Eagle One Bare Aluminum cleaner in Canada, so I went with the other cleaner. Thanks to all who took the time to help.
  16. Ok. I'm no dummy when it comes to this subject, it's just that I've come across the Mother of all chromes to strip.I got a set of BBS wheels from Strada Sports. They sent me a Chrome set as they were out of the bare resin centers. I've soak them in Bleach, Super Clean and Brake Fluid. But nothing works. The parts have small areas that have been dechromed but the majority of the center is still covered in chrome. I've had the parts soaking in various solutions for the better part 3 weeks. Do any of you have any suggestions to strip this subroun chrome off.
  17. I think that I've found a answer to my blockage. I was at my doctors for a checkup a few weeks ago and I said that I was feeling depressed. She had some tests done on me and one of them came back saying that my testosterone level was low. She said that this is a cause of depression in some men, so she is starting me on a treatment to bring my levels up to normal. Looking back , I think that all the stress from work and my mothers declining health have played a part in this as well. But I'm going to take randxo's advice and do a slammer or a snap kit to get back into the swing again. Thanks for the advice guys , your the best. Douglas.
  18. HELP!!! I've hit a builders block and I can't find the motivation to get started again. I havn't touched my lastest building project in over 6 months. Is this normal ?
  19. I have a few. Entex 1/8th M23 Marlboro McLaren Protar 179 & 180 Alfas. Protar 312T4 Ferrari Metal version ( the thing weights a ton !!!! ) I'm still looking for the Entex Lotus in 1/8th scale.
  20. I like to build on the cheap as well. But I'm getting ready to start on my first super detail build which is a 2005 C5-R ALMS Corvette. I've got all the parts ready, C5-R kit, SMS PE, SMS Carbon fiber Template, Arrowhead Aluminum Brake kit and C5-R turned Aluminum set and a can of Corvette Yellow paint from my local GM Dealer. With out going though all the receipts, I think that I've spent well over $100 bucks on a plastic kit that cost me under $15. If my wife ever found out I'd be dead.
  21. You learn something new everyday. I didn't know that the Odds & Ends line was Pactra. That stuff was the best model paint going back in the day. The next time I'm in Wally World I'll pick up a can or two .
  22. Hi all. My name is Douglas Graves, I just turned 50 not too long ago and I've been building since I was about 6 or 7 years old. I build mostly race cars in a variety of scales, from 1/43rd to 1/12th. I live just outside of Toronto in Pickering Ontario with my wife of 25 years, 2 teenagers and 3 cats. In addition to building models, I can be found at Mosport International Raceway or any number of race tracks in eastern Canada and the Northeastern U.S. working as a safety / flag marshal during the summer and early fall. My other hobbies are Photography and HO Model Trains.
  23. Great news! I could use a few more PL Torino's and Cyclones.
  24. Have you tried a product call SimpleGreen? You can get this cleaner at Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart or NAPA stores. I use it to clean resin body's and parts as well as strip paint from plastic. Soak parts overnite and clean with an old tooth brush. Strips paint after soaking one or two days. Old paint comes off with a little help from Mr. Tooth brush. P.S. I see your in Saskatchewan, were abouts are you? I've got relatives in Glaslin outside of North Battleford.
