Best place to buy kits?
kitbash1 replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My first choice is always going to be the LHS. My next would be the internet. None of my local stores carry kits anymore. -
Well, we all have our cross to bare. Your going to be waiting a long time for the Leafs to get to the cup finals my friend. My pick is New York and Vancouver. Canucks in 6.

Are We Model Hoarders?
kitbash1 replied to mrmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do believe that most people here are not hoarders. I do question those who have several thousand kits stashed in closets, basements, attics, storage sheds, garages, and storage lockers away from their homes. They may have only the vaguest idea of what they have stashed away in those areas. And, what are they going to do with them? I doubt that any of those kits would ever get built...or see the light of day. -
Are We Model Hoarders?
kitbash1 replied to mrmike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are we Hoarders? I consider myself a Collector more than a Hoarder. Hoarders amass useless ###### and garbage, as in stuff they take from others trash cans and from inside of dumpsters. My model collection ranges from 1/43rd scale to 1/8th scale. I have ( at last count ) over 3900 kits. Some are in storeage boxes, others are on shelves and in closets in my hobby room and basement. I will build some, sell or trade some and others I will not build. But, I will enjoy them all. I enjoyed finding kits from my childhood, and finding that rare kit at a fleamarket or a yard sale. My name is Douglas, and I am a Builder and Collector of models. I am not a Hoarder. -
And then a step to the right.

Fallen Hero coming home
kitbash1 replied to crazyjim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A different time and a long ago war, but the sentement is the same. Sleep well Marine. Your job is done. In Flanders Fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row that mark our place, and in the sky, the larks still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow Loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders Fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe, to you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields. Major John McCrae 1915. -
This something that I really hadn't put much thought in to. My son has no interest in my models, same with my daughter. The wife thinks that there toys and would probably toss the whole lot in the nearest dumpster. I could give them to the scouts or to the guys in the car club to divide with in the club, or I'll just sell them all and enjoy myself with the cash from the sale before I go.

You Say You Want a Spray Booth, Do Ya?

I soak my parts tree's in Simple Green and warm water over night in a old Tupperware tub. I then scrub them with a soft toothbrush and rinse them off in warm water and let air dry on a towel. I then wetsand the body parts with sanding pads and wash again, let dry and prime. Once the parts are ready for paint, I wetsand and go over everything with a tackcloth and then paint with either rattle cans or airbrush. I've had problems twice with humidity when painting in the summer months, when I forgot to close the vent to the spraybooth and left the vent open to the air-con while it was on.I had to strip the paint from the parts and start over because of condensation marks in the paint. Just take you time when sanding and besure to wash the parts and use a tackcloth before you start to paint.

ALMS...lost another one
kitbash1 replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree 100%. If you can remember back in the 90's, you could watch the following race series on the following channels. SCCA Trans-AM , World of Outlaws, ASA , NHRA, AMA on TNN ( The Nashville Network , now Spike ) F1, Champcar, World Sportscar Championship, NHRA, Formula Atlantic on TSN / RDS ( Canadas version of ESPN ) Skychannel and ESPN Since I go to three or more ALMS races a season as a corner worker for CASC in Canada and SCCA in the US, I get to see some great racing live. But the races I don't go to, I now have to watch as streaming video on ESPN3 which I really don't mind as long as I get to watch fast cars. -

I believe that if you go to the official FIA website, and go to the archives you can find what your looking for. -
I had the same thing the week before Christmas. I didn't shake it until the first week of January. Wouldn't wish this thing on my worst enemy.

Anyone do custom decal work ?........
kitbash1 replied to kitbash1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've sent you an email with some photos. -
I feel for you brother. I moved 12 years ago and it took me three days to packup my hobby room. If I remember correctly, I packed up seven large boxes of kits and five smaller ones of paint and tools and one work bench. I boxed up all my built models myself and put them in my car, as I didn't trust the movers to handle them.

? Formula Canada Resin Kits ?
kitbash1 replied to Crazy Ed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To the best of my knowlage, the guy who ran the company just folded up his tent and sold all his stock. He still has the masters from what I understand. I've got a few of his kits in my stash, a couple of Can-Am's and a Ridley / Scott ALMS.
