So, when I bought this kit on EBay, it was supposed to be just opened box, not started. This was not the case. It seems a child, or someone not versed in tube glue usage got to it. The engine was assembled, with exhaust manifolds on backwards, of course with piles of glue, and let’s not forget, just dip the whole engine in Testors gloss black enamel. They also painted the chassis pan and floor pan/ engine compartment very heavily with same paint. After a week of soaking in Super Clean and scrubbing, I still have this:

After 2 hours of carefully cutting with the back side of a #11 blade, and filing over and over, it fits. This would be the major make or break pitfall of the build, I believe

I am replicating my current 1:1 ride. Being that the Revell kit is an automatic and non sunroof car, I picked up the Revell Street Burner Magnum SRT just for the sunroof, and a Texas 3d Customs Tremec 6060 for a Mustang to make the conversion. I also have a VCG Resins pistol grip shifter for it. I will have to modify the bell housing to match the Hemi.

Been busy with life problems and my VW bus build, time to get back on this. I put nose cone together and air scoops/ radiator shrouds on body. Tons of bodywork later, and 3 1/2 jars of MCW gloss black later, seamless. I just couldn’t live with it having seams, when the real one does not. I laid down 2 coats of Mr.Color GX112 UV cut clear in preparation for decals that are on order from TB decals

This is kit bash of the Revell Samba bus and a glue bomb Western Auto funny car I picked up on EBay for five bucks. The funny car chassis needed extensive modification to make the wheelbase fit, along with raising the racing seat for Grandma to be able to see out the window, even with the scratch made phone book to sit on. The concept with the paintwork was to combine a mega dollar 70’s candy scheme with crudely hand painted parts mixed in. In other words, outrageous. There are 3 base colors, gloss black metallic for the nose,Gold Metalflake blended from nose to middle of the rear doors, Ultra Silver for the rest. This was done so that the sun and peace sign would be half gold, half silver. On the roof, the same gold/ silver blend to start. A crudely hand painted skull that is similar to a famous rock band’s followers put on their vehicles is on the front, I did a cosmic design panel on the rear( Ultra Silver base, black, Candy Hunter Green), the retractable cover I have done in Candy Regal blue over Ultra Silver base. The rest of the roof is Candy Tangerine. I also did a gold pearl cosmic design from front of roof to about 2/3 back, making the skull ghost out. On the nose and doors, I made crudely designed flames in Ultra Silver, white, black highlights. I then laid down a 4 color Candy fade. Starting from front, Candy Fire Red, Candy Tangerine, Candy Hunter Green, Candy Lime Gold. I also did a Candy Regal Blue fish scale panel on the tailgate. All paints are MCW. It has 10 coats of Mr.Color GX112 UV cut clear. The trim was done with BMF. I wanted to keep as much stock interior as possible to stay with the over the top concept. That meant keeping dash, steering wheel, shifter, front seats, etc. . The carpet is embossing powder. The interior panels on this kit had a ridiculous amount of ejector pin marks. I stopped counting at 40. All doors continue to function. I added gauge prints, extended the staging brake, chute release lever and gas pedal so she could reach everything for those last minute grocery store runs. The body hinge is all scratch made. I did not have a chute in my stash, so I made one from styrene and material. I added chute release cable and chute cord. I made injection plumbing, throttle linkage. I wired both mags. I drilled out the zoomies. To finish everything off, I scratch made a baby on board window sign and added a baby seat for Grandma Jones’ grandson, K.C.😁 I hope you like it, I have 9 months wrapped up in it. I still plan on repainting the roof fish scale panel( I was really shaky the day I painted it)

Grandma Jones’ Grocery Getter

A sunlight set of pictures and some updates as well. Body all assembled, interior mostly finished, some of the injection done. Once body was mounted to floor pan, hinge no longer worked, so I had to remake one from a section of a Duster rear seat, tube styrene and brass rod. The wheel base is not off on right side, it slid forward on body hinge, as body is removable. In the pictures, it is hard to tell that the sun and peace sign are both half gold, half silver. I planned that out in the base colors. I still may redo the upper panel fish scales, as I was really shaky on the day I painted them. There are a couple more surprises to come to stay on the outrageous side of things, they will be shown at the end. -

Some more updates, got 3 more coats of clear on it, blew it back apart, foiled body trim with BMF. I started working on the chassis. I got the wheelbase figured out, made chassis to differential brackets, made a driveshaft, made brackets for seat and lower cover panels. I made cage to fit around new radically raised seat. Since Grandma is between 5 foot and 5 foot nuthin, she can’t see over the wheel, so I scratch built a phone book for her to sit on. I covered all the aluminum panels with matte aluminum BMF to make them pop a little more. I then had to figure out the body hinge. Using portions of the original funny car frame hooks, I radically shortened them, made brackets for them and fashioned body pivot( still a little rough, but will look good) I started wiring the mags, also will be adding injection lines and other goodies. I drilled out zoomie tubes
