Welcome Scott! Another Jersey boy here (Allentown) along with also being a relatively new member. Looking at your transporter and Roadrunner, I gotta admit that your work is way beyond my skill set! Best wishes.

Welcome Dom! Another Jersey boy here (Allentown) and also relatively new to the board. You’ll have some fun here and learn a good deal.

My modeling shop is down in the basement, with it’s inherent hard concrete floor. I can’t count the number of times that I dropped a small part (or had it shoot off the tweezers) resulting in wasted “search” time, or ultimately, a permanently lost piece. So, what to do? I ran down to Home Depot and bought a piece of BLACK indoor/outdoor carpet (not the “grassy” type, but the one where the material is more like thick felt). I placed it under the bench and a couple of feet out where when sitting on my work stool, I’m surrounded by it. This helps two ways: first, white styrene or small metallic parts easily show up on the black background. Lastly, the carpet acts as a cushion so the piece will not bounce or roll away.

I had a couple of opportunities to fish off a mid 1950's and early 1960's Rybovitch sportfisherman. Both were craftsmanship works of art with timeless styling.

WOW! That is absolutely gorgeous!! At one time I had a 1:1 1965 Catalina......back when they were $250 used cars. It NEVER looked like this one.....LOL!!!

Feel kinda weird saying it (weird as in I don’t mentally feel it) but I’m 65 years old. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always hung out in a local speed shop, gas station, garage, etc. Well, we can forget about spending time in a speed shop today, but do/did you fella’s do the same thing? Let’s hear some stories of those times, back then or today.

Bob......what did you use for the “brass” rivets on the aluminum rear spoiler(s)?

I’m going to steal that “steering wheel wrap” idea! Crepe tape.......who woulda thunk it!

I’ve been using some PPP tires in my stock car builds. Rough them up a bit, apply decals, and hit them with some Dull Coat. I would like to open what’s available to me by using some resin tires. Here, there are some options that I can’t get with the “flexible” tires. However, I have no idea whatsoever on how to prepare these resin tires. What paint do you use ( I don’t have an airbrush......yet)?How do you get that “worn” look? Any help, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, would be greatly appreciated.

Bad enough learning about Cale, but this is the first I heard about Roland Leong. About three years ago, I did a “bucket list” trip from here in NJ out to Bakersfield for the Spring meet. Roland was tuning this young fella’s Mustang Nostalgia Funny Car. I walked up to him and said I wish I had his genes because it looked like he hardly aged.

Just throwing this out there to see if I’m not the only one who thinks this way. Does the opening drum solo in Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” remind you of a fuel car starting up? How about the opening of ZZ Top’s “Sleeping Bag” ? Reminds me of a Funny Car doing a dry hop and then starting its run. You too?

What defines “skinny” front tires?
CaddyDaddy replied to dusty_shelf's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Many of the guys ran 5.6x15 VW Bug tires. -
Sorry that I’m getting off topic here, but would Ardun heads fit any 24-stud block?

What year V8 flathead heads had the water neck in the middle verses the front of the head?

Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
CaddyDaddy replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
1968 Pontiac Catalina, spotless, with 27,000 original miles. 455 out at the engine builders now getting bored/stroked. Shooting for 600HP on the dyno. Turbo 400, Ford 9 inch with 3.70’s. Line loc. Trans brake. Too much else to list. I’ll get it all together “someday”. Also have bone stock Coupe deVilles (1967, 1970, 1976, 1983) all with less than 30,000 miles. Just bought a 2023 Scatpack Widebody Challenger as an everyday car. -
Welcome! I can trace my start in this hobby back to the original Beer Wagon and Red Baron customs.

Brake Line Junction Blocks?
CaddyDaddy replied to CaddyDaddy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Gentlemen.......heartfelt thanks for the many great ideas! When I decided to get back into modeling, I placed a good sized “initial stocking” order with Evergreen and Plastruct. Already have all the size/shapes referenced. Pin vice I “borrowed” from my 1:1 garage where I use it to make certain carburetor jets. I already see myself down at the workbench tomorrow night trying out these ideas! While arthritis has wreaked havoc with my shoulders and knees, the hands and fingers are still aces!......not to mention being blessed with great eyesight. -
I’ve used Evergreen 1/2 round on flat surfaces such as door panels to replicate tuck & roll.

I could really appreciate some idea(s) on what to use for brake line 2-way and 3-way junction blocks. I’m building in 1/25. I use 26 gauge wire (.015) for steel lines. Black braided fishing line (.019) for hoses. I tried the smallest brass colored square beads I could find on-Line for junction blocks. Two problems: 1) they are two big for scale, and 2) cannot drill them to make a 3-way. So, anything you have successfully come up with, I would love to learn about it! I don’t have a lathe so that is one avenue I can’t explore.

Hey there everyone! Am the new guy, but have to admit I’ve been “lurking” for a few months. Figured it was about time to join the fun. Live out in the country here in NJ, about 15 miles from the ocean. I’m 65 years old, just sold my business, and looking for something to do in my “old age”. Not new to the game, but stopped building about 40 years ago. Over the years I’ve put together many 1:1 street rods, hot rods, and competed with NASCAR Modifieds for more than a few years. You may ask “why don’t I just stick with the big cars”? Well, I can still kneel down and get under them.....just takes about a half hour to stand back up! Don’t get old! It’s no fun! Anyway, I’ll be concentrating on kit bashing North East NASCAR Modifieds from the ‘50’s, ‘60’s, and ‘70’s. Your local heroes, so to speak. I’ve done two since I’ve gotten back into this. The “rust” is still coming off!
