  1. I'm gonna finance my next trip to the Continent by swallowing a handful of plated metric cap screws and see if I can get past customs!
  2. Well, you can forget about 1:1 crank journal repair.
  3. I LIKE IT!! I've had the same problem. How about a paper towel or paper napkin to provide a little cushion? Just a thought.......
  4. Building MODIFIEDS!!!!.........a man after my own heart!
  5. Yup, that’s a Marx!
  6. This is going out to everyone who was a kid in the late ‘50’s/early ‘60’s.......I had a tin Marx Service Station, the one with the inside ramp and “parking” on the roof. Bring out my Matchbox cars and that thing would keep this drooling kid occupied for hours! Anyway, I go away to college, and by then my Service Station was packed away in the basement. You guessed it.....in a cleaning frenzy, Pop threw it out (along with my H.O. Trains, a slew of 1:1 ‘55 Chevy parts and a primo 1949 Merc sun visor). A day that will live in infamy! Anyway, just want to know if you also had the pleasure of a Marx garage. Time marches on, so whatever happened to it?
  7. Meanwhile, on March 21st, the Battleship New Jersey (BB-62) will be going into dry dock for $10 million in maintenance/repairs. She will be towed down the Delaware River a few miles from her berth in Camden NJ to the Philadelphia Naval Yard. In a fund raising effort, you can pay a couple of hundred dollars to ride on her as she is moved downriver.
  8. If you’re gonna smoke the tires, at least use the Line Loc.........LOL!!!!!!?
  9. In school, I rigged up a “special” binder where I could read my Hot Rod and Car Craft in class without the teacher noticing, and therefore confiscating them.
  10. Some of us old timers (me) need a little refresher. On 1:1 cars, around what year did both Top Fuelers and NASCAR stock cars start using braided steel lines? I CAN remember that the first time I ever bought some anodized AN fittings and hose was 1977, so it must have been before that as I was definitely not a trend setter!
  11. “That thing got a Hemi”?
  12. If Hot Rod were to go I’ll be sad. Not so much for its current reading value, but because it’s such a touch stone in our lives. Now Car Craft, losing that one really broke me up. There was a long time where I subscribed to both. I always enjoyed Car Craft more. I found the topics and the writing much more irreverent. Hot Rod, I thought, always spoke down to me. Now, for pure technical knowledge, no one ever beat Popular Hot Rodding.
  13. There's just something about a pistol grip shifter.......
  14. I dunno.....call me weird, but I always thought 8 injector stacks poking through the hood looked cooler than a blower setup.
  15. I just LUV Uncle Tony!!! Been watching his videos for years. Don't think I've ever met anyone who had a deeper knowledge of MOPAR parts and products. This video perfectly explains the reason that whenever I go look at a car, I carry one of those newfangled meters that tells ya paint thickness and if bondo is behind the pretty color. Saved my bacon more than once!!
  16. I graduated college in Spring 1981. With job offer in hand, I went looking for my first new vehicle. Off the lot, I bought a Chevy C-10, short bed, 250c.i. six pin, three on the tree, no power brakes, steering, or air. Crank windows. After a little back and forth, I paid $3100. Fast forward to today: The new Ram 1500 was announced with the "Tungsten" trim level. Key word here is "Ram 1500", not "2500" or "3500". Starting price..........$89,150! Ram marketing honcho is quoted as saying "I think people want something that can do it all. You talk about price, but there is a value proposition here. That truck is more comfortable, more quiet, and has more power than a luxury sedan. And, it can tow 11,000 pounds." Far be it for me to tell ya what you can or cannot buy. However, where does this nonsense end? I mean, a $90,000 starting price for a half ton truck? I guess if no one bought them, they wouldn't make them! Tell me what you think......
  17. Many thanks! I don’t always remember to check in on YouTube.
  18. “Low Rider”by War “I’m In Love With My Car” by Queen ”Momma Hated Diesels” by Commander Cody........well, maybe not
  19. Hey Bob! Yea,, I know what you’re talking about, but not what I had in mind. What I’m thinking of is some guys took the actual Vega bumper and bolted it over a piece of channel. Really didn’t make it any stronger, just looked really cool! After thinking it over, I believe I’ve come up with a workable idea. If you’ll recall, the actual Vega bumper is “stepped”. Figured I would use two different sizes of angle, the smaller glued under the larger, to get that effect. Then, make. 45 degree cut on each end and “weld” shorter pieces to close off the “capped” end.
  20. Like most things in life, ya can't find something when you're looking for it!! Maybe a year or so ago, I stumbled upon a tutorial where a fella was making rear Vega bumpers out of styrene stock. I thought to myself "someday I'm gonna need this". Vega big rear bumpers are used frequently in open wheel modified stock car builds. So, NOW I could use that tutorial! Can't find it. I searched this forum, Randy Ayers forum, even YouTube. No luck! I'm hoping that maybe you at one time ran into this little esoteric piece of information and can turn me on to it again.....maybe you even wrote it in the first place!
  21. I could use a couple of Vega rear bumpers. The big, clunky, 5mph ones used from 1974 on up. Thanks in advance!
  22. I like both the “sanding” and the “.040 fixture and scribe” ideas. Now, let’s take my original question one step further:what to do when cutting a much larger diameter tube, such as to use as a transmission/driveshaft tunnel?
  23. What do you fella’s use (method/fixture/etc...) to slice in half, lengthwise a piece of styrene tubing? For example, say I have a 3” long piece of .080 tubing. How would I cut it so I end up with two separate pieces, each 3” long, and each half-round? As always, you have my thanks in advance!
  24. Kick Out The Jams, Brother!
