Thank you guys!

Well, hello again Firebird is done. So i've got some spare room on my workbench (yeah right, i don't have a workbench.....) to start another build. Felt like its a good time to do another American legend - the C3 Corvette. Kit itself is from Revell's. Like always, i'll probably go for an out of the box build, but with some of my own twist added to it. Haven't decided yet about the paint. It definitely won't be the pace car colors. Lets see how this one goes Simo.

Hi! This is my latest build - the 1991 Firebird I know its not everyones bucketlist dream car, but i think its cool. Yeah, the build quality of the 1:1 cars wasn't exactly greatest. They weren't very fast either, but still - the slant nose front end, popup headlights and big v8 with fat tyres - truly the sportscar of the 90s. So heres my take of it Body paint is called Honduras Maroon from an early Corvette. The interior is my own mix. Added some plugwires to the engine and white decals to the tyres. Otherwise, its just an out of the box build. Had some issues painting the taillights and the decals were really old. Otherwise, its a nice solid kit to build. Heres the WIP thread: Hope you like it! See you at my next build threads! Simo.

So, its pretty much home straight No much left to do. Wanted to add some white lettering to the tyres. The kit doesn't have those so had to dig around inside my scrap boxes Luckily i found some! I think they are leftover from my older Firebird kit. Anyhow, the worked great. Then did some detailing inside the engine bay, glued the windows, interior and undercarriage in And finally installed the engine. Chromed parts inside the enginebay looks pretty awesome if you ask me Theres still loads of fingerprints left, but i'll clean it up later After that, glued the axles, driveshaft and shocks in So underside is also pretty much done. The mudflap-thingy will come later Just some minor details left to do before i can call this one done

Lets do another "small" update First, about the taillight. ITS THE WORST I'VE EVER SEEN. Idk how to paint it to look good. Been trying and failing, trying and failing. So i gave up and left it as is So what i did: First, taped the lines one by one: Then painted them: But still, looks pretty bad: So i gave up. Painted the lights in red and orange Actually looks pretty okayish on body The underside is a bit weird too. The kit supposed to be a 91 Firebird, but its a mix of parts from 89 and 91 firebird. Couldn't find any reference photos of the underside so used my imagination. Painted the fuel tank in silver. I have no idea how it is on the real car. Looks pretty nice though Also glued the rear axle in. The front one will be glued at the very end Then did some work on the engine The intake is glued in; Chrome looks pretty nice inside the enginebay Then did the plug wires. Its kindof my must-have thing. I really like to do these: And glued them in also: So this is where its at. Not much left to do

Wow! Last update was in august. Somehow this build has been sitting on my shelf for two months. So its time to blow the dust off and continue! Tried to make the dash look like its form an early 90s. Turned out pretty good if you ask me Then it was time for some decal work. This is an old kit - kit has been sitting around for 20 years or so - so decals took some soaking. Also painted the interior buttons and testfitted the dashboard After that, did some flocking and glued everything in I know the armrests on the doorpanel should be brown, but i painted them in black. I used to own a late 80's Audi 100 that had light interior with black armrests. This model kind of reminds me of that car so thats why i did it. Also, i know some of you british guys and gals won't see my earlier pictures due to some issues with the imgur site. Sadly i got myself a new PC a while ago so lost some of my old pictures, including pictures for this build. So heres a quick recap of the body

Usually the aoshima kits doesn't have engines in them. Well, atleast based on my limited experience with them. But seeing a full engine on this one was a nice surprise Its not the best looking engine, but still, its a fully molded one. One can do lots of awesome stuff with it. Sadly i'm not that skilled But it looks pretty awesome inside the engine bay So yeah, pretty cool surprise Also the sidemirrors in this kit is in two pieces. I don't know why - seems like its just for making it more complicated than it has to be. So, i definitely need to glue them before any paint. But how to do it so they don't look off once everything is painted? Easy - just take a blob of bluetac and stick it inside the body That way, you can securely stick the stem? to the body Then you can glue the mirror on to the stem And repeat on the other side. And voila! You have a nice and symmetrical mirrors that you can just pull off from body and ready for a paintjob :D

So, about this kit...... I haven't had that much experience with Aoshima kits, but some things stand out to me. First, the body - whilist the revell likes to mold its bodies as a single unit, the aoshima likes to make them as multi piece parts. As for the aoshima, its not always obvious how the parts supposed to glue together. Revell is easier - theres usually a rather large glue area or lip - just put the glue here and push the part there - no biggie. Aoshima isnt that way. The lip or area you supposed to put the glue on is very small (or there isnt one at all). So first, i layed down all the body parts to see what goes where: Another issue is that the instructions calls for the bodypanels to be glued on after the paintjob. I don't like it. I like to glue most of the body parts before paint - this just gives it a cleaner look in the end. But it takes a lot of testfitting and planning to make sure the kit will still go together. So this is what i did - a lot of testfitting. I'm pretty much sure i can glue the front bumper and sideskirts on without issues. The rear bumper must be glued after the paint or else the taillights wont go in. Then the panel gaps..... aoshima usually has them pretty well done. But not on this kit They were really narrow and shallow. So definitely needed some touchups. So i grabbed my trusty old scribber and went to town. Wasn't as easy as it looks. Scribber jumped out at one place so will have to do some putty work later on. But still, i really do like the Huracans. Should fit right in with its two sisters (well, almost)

Hi Time to start another build! Porsche is done and Firebird is almost done (i promise ). So what should i build next.... Felt like i should do another boring supercar build. I'll take it as a kind of warmup build for the upcoming Revuelto. I also have the infamous Huayra at the bottom of my stash - that one really scares me. I also have a really cool paint for it, but i just don't dare to try it yet. Maybe one day. If i can put that thing together, then i've earned the right to call myself not a beginner anymore.... i think. But enough of that rambling About this build, so i've already built the Gallardo, the Murcielago and also the Aventador. So the Huracan should fit right in. So this is what i'm going to build - The Gallardo's younger sister, the Huracan! Kit itself is from Aoshima. Seems like a nice quality kit. Seems like its not the easiest to put together, but i'll try my best. Paint wise, i guess the red or black should look really cool on it. Or yellow? Maybe even orange? But then again, wheres the fun in that? So it won't be none of those. So lets see how this one goes. Thanks for following! Simo.

Thank you 😁 Go for it! Its a nice kit. (Also thank you again! - i'm quite proud of my garden. Worked really hard to get it to look nice )
-
Thank you! I really love these non-mainstream paintjobs 😁 I'm not that fan of painting my models in regular black or red and call it a day.

Hi! Finally got this one done! Had my fair share of issues, but nothing major. Kit itself is from Revell's. Its their new tooled Porsche 911. A true classic rear engine sportscar. Finished it in Platinum silver with brown interior. Heres my WIP thread: Thanks for looking Simo.

Just kidding Done!

Stole this thingy from my partner I think its some kind of scent oil diffuser, but its also great for keeping the water for the decals warm. Worked like a charm! Got the badged and other decals on And finally the body got its clear coat too Will let it dry for a few days. In the meantime, i might do some work on my other builds
-
Finished the wires, added the missing parts and now i can call the engine pretty much done! Looks pretty neat if you ask me Then dropped the engine into the chassis And added the suspension parts The engine bay is pretty small in this, but looks really cool I really like it
-
About that engine...... Was trying to find a suitable wire from my stash to make the plugwires. Didn't have one. So decided to cut open an old HDMI cable that gave me this nice looking red one So onto the engine it went Then glued the intake manifold And into the engine bay it went
-
Laid out all the interior parts Glued the pedals, center console and seatbelt fasteners in Then the gearstick, seats, sidepanels Then the steeringwheel And interior is done! I really like how it turned out
-
Exactly as Dan said - its a new tool one So far seems like a really solid kit. Still has some mould defects, but nothing major.
-
I was tinkering on the engine a bit First, painted the idle control valve (i think its what its called) Then it was time for the main engine block. Did some painting (a bit sloppy, i know. It will be hidden so wasnt really trying to make it look good ) Then glued it together Wanted to add the plug wires. Found a piece of random red wire. Heated up the insulation and pulled out the copper fibers so only the insulating tube was left. Sadly it was in red. So added a coat of black paint Then cut them to lenght and glued them into the engine block. Wanted to make them look like the coil end of the plug wires. Came out looking pretty neat I really like it.
-
Did some more flocking Doorpanels are pretty much done. Also did some interior testfitting Actually looks pretty cozy Also started working on the engine
-
Did some decal work Got the speedo done! To be honest, the decals are pretty awful in this kit. Felt like old monogram decals - they're thick and needs quite a bit of soaking. Also, there's this really large transparent edge on almost every decal. Next time i'm smarter and will probably try to trim them down before soaking them. But, with a bit of help from microset and microsol solutions, i got them to look pretty okayish: After that, i added a bit of crystal glass to the gauges. Actually looks pretty nice - i really like it Also did the sidepanel decals too. Will probably do a some flat clearing and flocking too
-
I really like the chrome rings around the speedo on some Singer models. So wanted to do chrome rings on this one too So, grabbed a tiny brush and some silver paint After that, painted the center console Then taped up the rear seats Brushed the glue on And did some flocking
-
Time for some bodywork First, some sanding with the good ol' 600grit sponge (Note to self: NEVER put your hot coffee next to a bowl of sponge water. You WILL burn your fingers!) Then the first coat of filler primer I usually like to do my priming right after the sanding - this way you can see all the scratches and dents showing up Makes it really easy to do some putty work After that, some more sanding.....and more priming. And some more sanding (If you don't hate sanding now, you will hate it later). And then, it was time to paint And this is how it came out
-
Did a bit of masking Wasn't as easy as it looks Then did some painting Then i noticed the underside of the gauges should be black. So grabbed a brush and did some more painting Also painted the rear axle ,,,,,, then did a bit of thinking - should i add some details to the engine or not? The engine bay is pretty small and crowded already, but hey, a nice challenge should be good So decided, i'm going to add some spartplug wires (i'll probably regret it later ) So, stripped the paint - wanted it to look a bit more flat. Then used my trusty old ruler to mark the centerline of the valve covers. After that, drilled some holes *also did a bit of cleaning The dusty lamp and dirty table looked pretty horrible already. Took all my models out from the display cabinet - here they are My two years of work (Beetle bug is missing - it sits proudly in my livingroom): (I definitely need a bigger display cabinet)
