  1. Understand your point Mikos clearly IRT getting both accuracies, but with my time slipping by, I'm happy to take what I can get at this point. I know no replica or kit is ever perfect, but these forum reviews and comments help me decide what kits I want to take on or skip. And thus I've had to learn to either modify the heck out of a kit (which I love doing), make it curbside, live with it, or pass it by. These little changes/improvements to the kit for me are positive, and I'll determine how far I go once I see it in person. As long as I like the firewall, engine and inner fender details, I don't mind the challenge of correcting these roof errors. Otherwise I'll curbside it and happily live with it as is. Either way I'm happy to have a version in my display case until something better comes along, should I live long enough.
  2. Well said! I think that the fender vent can be sanded down a little for correct appearance, and the window can be sanded a little more round, no biggie for more skilled modelers. Revell did correct the fender arches to be flatter on the top unlike the Firebird arches in the 1981 Z28, so Kudos to them! Love the extra hood parts too. My only issue with a lot of older Monogram kits is the cast-on parts in the engine bay. If it takes too much work to correct the firewall and inner fender details, I just glue the hood shut and have a great curbside. I will definitely add Billy's Camaro to my collection, built as on screen appearance (using 1979 GM code 29 Dark Blue Iridite paint).
  3. Fireball also has the Goodyear Eagle GT P215/65R15 white outline performance tires, which from what I can find was the factory OEM tires for Hurst Olds and 442 Cutlass models.
  4. That's a great idea! The 57 Nomad has flat floors without the real car's footwell tubs. I'd use the entire 56 frame and chassis with floorboards and interior under the 57 along with AMT front clip (fenders, hood, grille, bumper). One thing I do love about the 57 is the gas tank with spare tire well. It is a near match for the 1949-1954 Chevy Sedan Delivery tank and spare (I had a 1:1 scale 1953 version). I plan to use this part to correct all of my Revell 53-54 deliveries and 49-52 Jimmy Flintstone delivery kit bashes. That "53 Panel" kit was a favorite of mine, built one each in 2nd and 3rd grade without issues other than having dad cut the doors open. Kit needs redoing with an accurate firewall, inner fenders and floor pan. Hood is too flat in the middle. New stock engine and torque tube would be nice too.
  5. So! I'm not the only one who thinks that the front end and headlights are a bit square or heavy. I agree that a clip from the AMT body would make this a great kit. I had this kit as the 1980s Hot Rod issue, but tried my hand at turning it into a sedan delivery which never got finished.
  6. Anyone able to download the digital issue, saved as PDF file?
  7. Glad to receive my digital issue! Lots of good stuff in there, and as a sedan delivery nut, the Galaxy kit article was awesome. ONE big question...how do I print/save a digital copy of this issue? I no longer have room for paper copies of magazines. I used to subscribe to Rail Model Craftsman, who never allowed digital downloads of the same magazines that you could keep in hard copy. When they were purchased by White River Publishing, they said I could print it out, which turned out still couldn't be done. I read part of one issue, and never read another one for the whole year of my subscription (I never went back). That really tee'd me off about their pettiness. Hopefully that isn't the case here. It is much easier for me to put my research on a screen while building my models than to use a hard copy that may get damaged.
  8. Holy Schnikies! Holy Grail of custom front end conversion! If only someone made the checkerboard wheels!
  9. Love what you did with the NASCAR nose--looks like the best way to make an 81-86 version. There is a conversion kit on Evilbay for the 87-88 rounded version already. I really want to see someone make these GM #14058974 "Checkerboard" wheels for the LS! I've attached the early nose LS as well as the '87 wearing the checkerboards.
  10. Sigh! Nothing ever stays the same! I toured the Kenner toy factory in the summer of 1980, watching them build Millenium Falcon and Strawberry Shortcake toys. Tried taking photos inside, but none of the film turned out (protecting trade secrets). At the end of the tour, I got to choose between 3 brand new Star Wars action figures or the 18" Alien figure. I chose the Alien...still have it but the box hasn't survived.
  11. I remember that! Back in '77-ish, a bunch of us in Delmar, Delaware ("The Town Too Big for One State") did the exact same thing. I bowed out when I ran out of models that I was willing to wreck, plus one kid built up an El Camino using a soldering iron...couldn't kill that truck. But the same guy traded me a model for my completed stock Revell '57 Ranchero. He was furious when he found out the body was multi-piece when it blew up on the first hit! I told him not to wreck it! I had a Kenner Smash Up derby set but wouldn't let that crowd touch it. Now I have about 14 sets of them in multiple colors and varieties, guess I never lost the demolition derby bug!
  12. Love the modified Superstock III wheels. How did you modify them? Thanks.
  13. Nice conversion on the roof! Where did you get those wheels? Very nice modern upgrade.
  14. They appear to be "General Tire" tires. I found these exact tires at ST Supply for my Movin On Kay-whopper : Part #T38 1/25 11.00-20 20" General Tire Drive Tires or part #T06 1/25 10.00-20 20" General Tire Drive
  15. Great job! I love the 1:1 Ramcharger, but the Monogram / Revell kit seems noticeably off in dimensions, especially from the side. Your two-tone paint with a chrome spear completely changed the look of this kit! Instead of selling mine off, I'm going to do the same thing to mine. So simple, very effective!
