Thanks Gary, once again I'm confused. To me the body lines that I use my scriber tool on are like grooves in the body fairly deep , the mold lines are either flush/marked or fractionally raised. the body lines I have to work and increase the depth to allow for paint, not the sure the correct procedure for body/mold lines, so I'll do as you suggest and pencil them. To me, the mold lines I have always thought to be the raised things left by the injection process and should be sanded flat? Correct me if I'm wrong with all this, I'm still learning. Don

Simulate vinyl/leather look on seats

Great looking trims Steve mostly airbrushed I take it. Really stunning. Don -
Nice mate, looking good. Don

i have seven kids, three girls are mine four boys I inherited when Shaz and I got married. And they all talk a load of Sh*t. i have fourteen grand kids, no wonder I'm a bit gaga. Right back to models. I use the Tamiya primer, thanks for the tip on the Vallejo wash.
-
I should say they were, I have painted one out. Also, here is a weird one for you. I sprayed the body - Tamiya Fine Surfacer Primer just before dinner, and when I came back it had a crack in the body LH rear. No I didn't do it, nothing in that spot to scribe. Quite bazaar. Actually there is two, one at the front as well.

are you talking about the lines on the roof, Les. The lines on the roof of my car are so shallow I can't get a scriber tool on them, they are flush with the roof like paint. Years ago I had a RX2 that had lines like that on the roof, something to do with how they were made.

thanks mate. We don't have any rug rats at home anymore. They're off terrorizing other families. My life is peaceful right now, my wife is visiting her mother, I'm like the movie - home alone.😁

Thanks Luke, I thought you meant the bottles too.

Hey Stu, should I prime the seats first, I just painted one and the coverage is pretty average. They are black seats. Don
-
Thanks John. Yeah, tonight I'll try thinning and see how that goes. The RX7 will be Pearl Blue exterior, and the seats will be dark blue on the outside and a lighter blue in the middle. just to make it easy. I was going to mask the centres and airbrush the outsides, and just brush paint the centres, but I hate masking, so bloody fiddly. Guess we'll see, I'll let you/show you, the outcome, providing I don't completely mess it up. And brushes, I have a heap, I used to do a lot of water colour painting, so have a couple of dozen. Don

Thanks Anton. On some Japanese cars, I have seen two stripes on the roof like joins, which they might be. I've never enquired, should have done, had a mate who worked in a Mazda dealership. It's obviously a manufacturing thing, maybe Mazda made the roof in three pieces and they are joins. But they definitely aren't panel lines you use a scriber on, and they aren't the usual mold lines. Don

Never heard of panel wash, learn something new everyday. My problem with those panel lines is they actually aren't there, they are like lines on the roof, no depth nothing to follow and I have just realised maybe they aren't panel lines, they aren't like the ones for the doors maybe I was supposed to paint them, why would they have panel lines on the roof? DUH! 🙄😂
-
I've just spent an hour and a half trying to do the panel lies in the roof. They are so faint and shallow, almost impossible. I've given up, even trying to do them with one of my wife's sewing needles, I can't get them to run right. I'm going to sand them out, it's not a show car. That wavy roof sure is putting me to the test. don

Thanks Stu, so Tamiya paint, Tamiya thinners? I'm using mainly Tamiya at the moment, Luke (Coolhand), suggested I stick with Tamiya until I get more experience with paint, so I've stuck with mainly Tamiya with a bit of Vallejo thrown in. Don

More advice please - brushing acrylic or any paint for that matter. can one of you guys/gals, give me the secret to brushing. I am at the point where I have some smaller parts that I can't airbrush. Anything I try to brush turns out terrible, brush strokes and/or rough finish. Is warming the paint to improve the flow enough. Help thanks. Don

Thanks Chris, I was looking for those earlier. They were packed in a small envelope, in with the tyres, which was why I couldn't find them. Why they put them in there? Thats why I missed them. Thanks Don
-
Thanks Les, I'll check it out.

Thanks Chris, but the wheels seat against the disk, the wheel and the disk are flat
-
I have another issue. I have a small bag that came with the wheels/tyres, 4 small black what I assume to be retainers for the wheels, but I can't work out how they are supposed to keep the wheels on. Do I glue them to the axles and then to the wheels. I don't want to glue things that don't need to be glued, but that's the only way I can see how to keep the wheels on. Help please. Don

Thanks Gary. Looks like I build with the bumps, the way kit came. As you have proof here that it could be either, and your Tamyia kit is the same as mine, so obviously that's how it's supposed to be. Thanks for clearing that up.

Not sure if you saw my reply post, but after checking a heap of "93 RX7, I could not find one that had a roof like that, not even close. If you can find one please post a pic so I have something to work from. Thanks Don

Well after checking about 150/180 pics of the '93 Mazda RX7 R1 models FC, FD on, I haven't been able to categorically say I've found any with serious roof defect that you guys are talking about. I have posted one yellow one that "maybe" have a dent in the roof, parked in the trees without any reflection I can as I said "maybe" see something, so I might just have to take the opinion of the majority and proceed with the build as is. Basically it's another "trainer" for me, so if it's not perfect, then so be it, like it to be as best as I can get it, but I have bigger and better things coming, so unless I get more advice to the contrary, it's onward we go. It will be later today before I get to it, so feel free to add anything you feel relative, and thanks to all for your contributions. DonI thought I saw a "slight" dent in the centre in this pic, and in the trees there is no reflections I don't think Same here, but could be a slight reflection, hard to tell. But as yet I fail to see anything like on my model. I read the history of the development which is quite interesting, but nothing mentions anything about the roof. I jut can't imagine why a manufacturer would develop a car with that, failing something relating to performance. Anyway, as I said previously,......moving on. Don
-
Good to know mate, thanks, I'll go look at some real ones. Don
-
Thats pretty unusual for a manufacturer to put out a car with that "defect", but then again having spent my life in the motor industry, the last part as Customer Service(complaints) manager in a franchise dealership, I saw a lot, and thought I'd pretty much seen it all, obviously not, and nothing to do with Mazda, only Holden, Nissan, Subaru, & Hyundai, to name a few. Thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the slow responses, our internet went down yesterday afternoon about three, and when I checked didn't come back up until about 3 AM when I checked again. Bit pissed at that, missed the footy semi final. Good thing is, I can get the replay on Kayo, sometime today, if I don't have to fix that roof. Don
