  1. Another sweet paint job. I bookmarked your Willys build. It's nice to see you back on the bench. Did the seats come with the kit and where did you get the wheels?
  2. Bill, this is another stunner. As usual I've learned a lot from watching your progress. When you epoxy the wheels, can you post pictures of your progress. I would like to see how you ensure that all the wheels are on the ground. Also, you sanded the metallic duplicolor paint. I tried sanding metallic paint and ended up with an uneven finish. I've seen some advocate never sanding metallic, but you did it and got a great result. Are there any keys to getting the consistent/even finish that you achieved with sanding the color coat. Bye the way, I'm looking forward to reading your new article. The last one on the door hinges was tremendously helpful. Thanks for sharing your work in insight. It's greatly appreciated.
  3. Very nice work. I love the subtle fade on the scallops.
  4. Thanks for sharing your methods and insights. I love your work and your attitude. If we had Goodwill Ambassadors for our hobby, you would definitely get one of my votes. I have one question... Do you apply another coat of primer after shooting Zinser BIN or do you apply color on top of the Zinser.
  5. FANTASTIC! I've looked at it 3 times and I see something new every time I look at it.
  6. I learned the hard way that brake fluid removes bondo.
  7. This is hilarious!!!
  8. I know that you already painted it and the color is nice. I hope that the color is what you envisioned. I think what Mr Obsessive is suggesting, for future use now, is that you consider testing the paint on plastic spoons or some other inexpensive or scrap plastic. This might help you on future builds.
  9. I looked at the Fotki of this build... all 168 pictures. This is amazing work. I learned an incredible amount by looking at your work. Thanks for sharing it and I look forward to seeing more.
  10. Kustom Kolors is the exception to the rule regarding manufacturers compatibility. Kustom Kolor's Acrylic Clear will craze Kustom Kolors paint. It happened to me and there are numerous posts about the same thing on other websites. Krylon Crystal Clear works well over Kustom Kolors.
  11. I love that color. Beautiful paint job!!!
  12. I love the paint work on this build. I have some questions about the masking technique. I assume that that the tape for the separation line remained in place during the application of the Continental Silver and Metalic Gun Metal. After you shot the red, masked it for the separation line, masked the body for the application of the first of the two tone colors, and applied the first of the two tone colors, how long did you wait before masking for the second of the two tone colors? Also, how did you leave the separation line masking on the body long enough to mask, paint, fully dry the first two tone color and partially dry the second two tone color without affecting the crisp red separation line. I guess what I'm asking is why didn't the red separation line crack when you lifted the tape in light of the fact that it had to be on the body for a very long time. Any insight into this technique, from anyone, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..
  13. MrObsessive, I looked at the Mustang and it's beautiful. I'll test the Future over primer on some spoons. On the Mustang, I noticed that you color sanded and waxed before you applied flat black to the window trim. Were there any adhesion issues with applying paint over the wax?
  14. MrObsessive First, I'm a big fan of your work. I'm a little confused about the hot solvent over cool thing. Future appears to be an acrylic and the recommended primers are lacquers. Why does future not react to the hot solvents in the primer? Also, will future work as a barrier between coats of primer.
  15. MrObsessive, do you wash the chamois cloth after using it? If so, does it retain it's softness while it's dry. When I've used chamois cloths on my car, they dry into a stiff object until they're placed in water.
  16. You've got to be kidding... Freakin Amazing!!! What imagination and craftsmanship.
  17. The Kustom Kolors candies required very little reducing. But, the silver base required at least 100% reduction.
  18. Nice work Helipilot. Did you use a gold or brass base for the Kustom Kolors candy. I did a spoon test with testor's brass metalizer as a base under Kustom Kolors candy apple red and the result was similar to yours. I experimented with Kultom Kolors primarily on you recommendation on another website and I'm very pleased with it. I bought as much as I could find. As you know, the reducer is a little difficult to find. I ordered a gallon of House of Colors slow reducer from a local paint jobber that should last me quite a while. Keep up the good work.
