"Fast Times At Ridgemont High" 79 Camaro Z-28
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Car Crazy 81's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Dude... are you stoned??? If you think Sean Penn is/was a pretty lady then if we ever meet you gotta stay at least an arms length away from me! As I remember the movie after the wreck Jeff Spicoli said "I can fix it, man. My dad has an awesome set of tools... He's a tv repairman". Maybe I was stoned, It's not out of the question! -
need some reference!!!
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Marcos... I have had great success finding reference shots by looking at eBay Motors. Usually there are a couple of examples of the full size cars that you want to research. It has helped me with many builds. -
How is this one progressing? I'd love to see an update! Here are some shots of a hood I'm planning on using for my current SS350 than is still in work and still rough... I'll get it smooth. I know, I know that it's a big block hood going on a small block car, but I'm after early 1970s styling here. There will be other subtle modifications as well.

I've been in touch with Hawk and hopefully it will happen in August. I'd love to see our stuff displayed together on the table!

July MAMA Meeting
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Lyle Willits's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
That picture... Is that when the new kid got too close to Ron's sammich?!!! -
Seriously Hawk, that is one sweet build. I told Lyle and the boyz about your work. There are several guys from CPMC that show up regularly so I know the trek can be made from York... !
-
Hey Lyle, The Ron Cash tribute looks really good, and I'm gonna stay way away from Toledo... I seem to have the best luck with outdoor photography, but that's just me and my own fumbling skills as a photographer. See ya Saturday (maybe with a new guy!)

1/12 67 Corvette 427 and 1/12 `69 Camaro
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Cars
Hawk, these are simply fantastic builds. My wife had to jump up off of the couch and look when she heard my out loud remarks. She thought I was looking at the other (female) type of models! I'd love to see them "on the table". -

John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Thanks for the great pictures! I'm gonna have to get up there for your next event... However, I won't be able to bring anything that might impress you guys. You've got some good stuff goin' on there. -
How to confuse an idiot
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Olle F's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I must be a genious. Only clicked twice! -
Another sweetheart Lyle! I looked at the pics for a while, and still kept finding hidden detail. Outstanding job on this one!

You, sir, are responsible for my beginning to search for one of these kits and will be hearing from my wife upon my success ! I built one of these when it was a new release. Very nice job you are doing here, keep us posted. J.B.

MODELING FUNDS
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Ariel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, it's puttin' a hurtin' on me. DISCLAIMER: I know I'm gonna take a beating for this, but...I drive a 1997 Z/28 8 miles to work and back and my wife drives a 2004 supercharged Monte Carlo 100 miles a day round trip to work and back. both of these cars require at least 82 octane (premum) gas. I can get away with a fill-up once every two weeks and be fine if I limit my travels to be very local. However, she has to fill up more often than once a week. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but I'd like to be able to go to a club meeting or show/swap meet and blow a hundred bucks without a second thought again. Not gonna happen anytime soon. The good: I have a fat stash to choose from when I need something to build. The bad: I want more. The ugly: I will probably blow too much money at the next MAMAS BOYZ meeting and suffer the wraith of my beautiful wife who just now gave me an unexpected kiss on the cheek. Last one of those for a while! -
This is another one that made me comment out loud (in my playground voice)! Very nice build and the color combo fits it like the perverbial glove. Well done!

This looks really good! Makes me want to crack open my kit. Where did you get the TPI intake?

Good ol' 359
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to Stephen's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice... Very nice build. I'm soon going to get back into big rigs myself after over thirty years and have been collecting up bits and pieces for some extra details. Is this an example of the Revell of Germany offering? -
WOW!!! This is an outstanding build! Please bring this one to the next meetup, I'd really like to see it. It makes me feel good that someone who can build like you do will complement on my stuff. Thanks!

Monogram 1:12th scale 1967 Corvette coupe
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to John E. Bowers Jr.'s topic in Model Cars
You, sir, are far too kind. Thank you. -
Hey Stump- If you've seen my '69 SS396 in the "Big Boyz" section, then you KNOW I'll be watching this!!! Great start man!
-
You must be referring to a guy who went by the screen name "ralphloves69cars". This guy is in SoCal and does some fantastc work. I bought a resin cast 1/12th scale Turbo 400 automatic transmission from him for a Z/28 to SS350 conversion. He is a member of many sites, but I haven't heard anything from him for months.

Monogram 1:12th scale 1967 Corvette coupe
John E. Bowers Jr. replied to John E. Bowers Jr.'s topic in Model Cars
Thanks for your praise Dude! The sparky wire trick could work to replicate fuel lines in 1/25th scale, but I think some AN fittings would be in order to make it convincing.
