I would have thought throwing in a second motor/transaxle in the back would have been a funner proposition. Always wanted to do a taurus with a second SHO Yamaha in the trunk. Wanna drop jaws on a few vettes???? I did an Escort with a transverse mounted blown 289 many moons ago. Didn't the Daytona ('80s version) also have a twin carbed 318 or some-such optional motor in the kit?

Looking great so far. Always cool to see someone doing something new to a classic. As for the fastback, my suggestion would be to make it a smooth transition windshield to trunk and make it merge with the curve of the rear of the trunk lid. Make it look factory like the early '50s Chevy Fastbacks. A phantom '57 Fastback Bel Air! Either way, I'll be watching. Keep up the great work!

How rare is this?
torinobradley replied to brad4321's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I recently got the AMT Dodge Super Bee and it was missing one of the alternate stock wheels. Now here's the funny part. Apparently, their quality control caught it and put in another. Unfortunately, it was another of the mainline stocks rather than the alternate recalled (I think) ones. The kit had 3 alternate stocks and 5 original stocks... I would have sent in the part replacement bit but I didn't have the receipt by the time I had opened the kit... As for dropping and loosing parts... I drop each part at least twice at each sitting. So I am always picking up parts from the floor. I have a flashlight that gets a lot of use at my hobby bench. -
It's best to do a search and find pictures of the actual car your building to route the cables and wires correctly. In my book, research is the first step to building any model. Okay, second beyond grocking it a hundred times or so... Don't forget to get rid of every mold seam that isn't supposed to be there. Only cast parts on the real car will have a seam and most of those don't show anyway. A stock exhaust manifold might be the only place on the model where a mold seam is correct... Clean building should win over details any day.

1933 Speedstar Coupe Retro Dry Lakes Style
torinobradley replied to BHarrison's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Awesome grill but you got to share how you did it. Inquireing minds want to know... -
Awesome idea and execution! If it were me, I'd paint it just like the original Daytonas. Make people look twice... I remember taking the tour at Shelby's factory near Las Vegas when they were building them. As the guy was telling us they only came in silver and the only color option was the stripe, a black one rolled into the shop behind him... But, they weren't as cool as seeing CSX2000...

What Are Your Strengths?
torinobradley replied to Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would say mine are vision and mechanical knowledge. I usually 'build' a kit a dozen times (in my head) before I ever take the first piece off the sprue. I see how things go together and have enough mechanical knowledge to know if it is right or needs correcting. Unfortunately, this also leads to my weakness (see other thread)... -
What's Your Achilles Heel?
torinobradley replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Finishing... Anything.... Fixing things would be a second. I can't stop fixing things. I see something that is wrong or out of whack and off I go into the super-detailing black hole. "These control arms do not look right. I can modify the frame to accept these others from this kit and swap in the spindles from that kit and while I'm at it, order the alternator fan pulley set to fix the belts and, and, and..." I want to challenge myself to do a box stock kit and of course, the ones I am considering are things like AM's McLaren M8B and the Fujimi EM Ferrari 365... Am I just a glutton for super-detailing madness? -
"Holy Grail" Models?
torinobradley replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mine would be all the Testors "Those Famous Fords". I have a few but am always looking for more. Also the Union Ferarri 330, Chaparrals and Lolas. I've been on a road racing binge lately... Also looking for the Fujimi Enthusiest 356s. Just got to find them all for what I'm willing to pay for 'em. Of course, I'm always willing to trade... -

Next year in Texas
torinobradley replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks like I'm going to be visiting Austin in late 2012... Oh, and I think that car needed a bit more than a filter after that run down those Texas roads... That dust gets everywhere and them gravel roads tear up the car something fierce. I'm sure there were a lot of parts needing replacement including the entire bottom bodywork. -
A friend tipped me on his tecnique. He bought some material with a very fine weave at the fabric store, cut it into workable pieces and applied them with a tinted clear. The fine texture and the tinted clear gives that fiberglass look and it is to scale. I plan to do my Grand Sport body in this fasion.

71 Javelin AMX Trans-Am Racer Mark Donohue Driver
torinobradley replied to Reeves Racing's topic in Model Cars
Awesome! Love seeing the old Trans-Amers. I have the Johan one waiting on a rebuild and will probably do the same wheel/tire swap. I saw a racing mag not too long ago that detailed the car and should have bought it. Anyone have a clue what it was? -
I am considering a small production run of a photo-etch fret and would like to hit you guys up to see if any of you have had any experience having some items professionally photo-etched. I saw the Micro Mark system and don't think it is what I need, since the idea would be to possibly sell the items. Thanks in advance!

Looking good. I love this kit. It's already lowered a fair amount. I've got one of these in the works or rather, on my workbench for a while. It's currently waiting on paint. How did you flush the windows? I see the sides you put a plastic lip around the door glass. Did you do the same with the rear?

Wouldn't almost any fuel do some sort of damage to plastic, even un-ignited??? R&D did a crankshaft, rods & pistons, if you can find them. I played around with trying to fit one of those into that spare block that came with the pro street Nova a few years ago. As for the plastic crank & cam shafts, look for the blueprinter parts pack issue. Fujimi also has their enthusiast series kits that have what appear to be accurate crank, rod & piston detail Anyone know if they actually rotate?

Boyd Coddington´s famous cars...
torinobradley replied to Drago's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is another Boyd's car in kit form that many overlook. The Resin Testor's Fire Roadstered is very close or actually a model of Michael Anthony's 33 Ford built by Boyd. It is a curbside and a bit fiddly but builds up pretty decent. And don't forget the Chezoom. There's a few more if you go the resin route including Cadzilla IIRC. -
That looks like it will be one fast aquarium/terrarium... Check out the HotWheels Packing Pacer...

Spinners.....
torinobradley replied to Pastor Plastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Define "Spinners". It means different things to different folks. DUB makes spinner rims for their die-cast toys that can be adapted fairly easy. There are also some you can find at flea markets and such on cards with axles and brakes. Many of the '50s kits have spinner hubcaps and many more available in resin from various companies. Or do you mean the knock-off style center spinner that has two or three blades made to replicate knock off wheels? Those are in lots of kits as well. -
What about the Talladegas and Cyclones? They didn't have wings but neither did the 500. It was a fastback. But they were part of the aero wars of the late sixties, which, according to your examples may have been what you originally intended. You might even open it up to all those 'special' cars they created so they could run the body mods in racing like the Monte Carlo aeroback. Just a thought. Your CB, your rules. not trying to stir the pot, just offering suggestions.

Don'tcha just hate it when.............
torinobradley replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or you spend a lot of time and effort to create a model that hadn't been kitted and they come out with it a short time later? Wanted an El Camino SS so took the Monte Carlo front and put it on the '82 El Camino, then they kitted the darn thing...
