o/t watch what you leave in your car
torinobradley replied to jeffb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry to hear about your troubles. It sucks that these (insert appropriate explative) prey off of us hard working people. I can only hope karma is a real thing... A few years ago, someone broke into my truck to snag the radio. All told, that radio they probably sold for $20 cost me, the city, the insurance and everyone else involved over $5,000. The responding policeman asked if I saw them and I said "do you see a body?" -
To be honest, I was a bit let down coming from GT3 to GT4. I got over the magic number of cars in 3 and POOF! They all went away. Then, in four, the races were different, the setup was different, traction control was off on two player mode leading to some really squirly cars more akin to pinball than racing. But I still loved both the games. Even got the wheel so I could get past the license test with the friggin 190 on the Nurburg ring (I can drive, just not with two sticks and a couple of buttons...lol). I haven't gotten GT5 yet, hopfully for Christmas, if not, shortly thereafter... I did play Prologue and loved it. Controls take some tweaking to get them akin to the way I drive. Imagry, I'm blown away so far, I'll see how gameplay goes. I'm torinobradley on PSN in case your looking for another game friend.

Interesting Signage Contributions
torinobradley replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Fallout games have some real interesting signage. Kinda '50s appocoliptica... Nuclear cars, fallout shelters and the like. I'm sure you can find images from the game on the net. Don't know if that's what your looking for but you mentioned biohazard and I thought of radiation. -
Wonderful conversion! Very inspiring. Great job on this kit though it does seem a tad high. I can almost hear the roar as it's taking off. Been waiting to do one of these myself. I plan on using the 351 from the latest '70 Stang, the rear transaxle from a Series 1, a Tilt Pantera kit (though it seems more like 1/25th than 1/24th) or one of the other Testors/Fujimi/others. I think I have 5 different Pantera kits around here. One of them is bound to work... I have two friends with 1:1s so reference material is not hard to come by. Therein lies the beauty. If you felt it was underpowered, you just went to your local speed shop (or online like Jegs, etc...) and got hop-up parts for the Ford 351 Cleveland motor. From mild to wild, whatever your flavor... I can just imagine a 6:71 blower hanging out the top of one of these... Italian design, American muscle...

more zombie shots
torinobradley replied to Sixx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Awesome! As much as I like the undead and modeling, I never connected the two... Wouldn't this make a unique Mini-Men version/conversion... Put me down for some! Another sorce for appropriate sized figures are those Christmas and Halloween villages. I might have to get in on this trend as well, though most of my stuff is currently stored off-site. Will have to look next time I'm in the stores to see if I can find a Christmas figure to, um, disfigure.... Thoughts of Zombie Santa Claws come to mind... -
help lowering front of the "stang"
torinobradley replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
According to the picture, you also have to bring the tire in a couple of inches. There are too many factors involved to give you an easy answer. Do the tires actually fit between the fenders and fender liners? If not, you may need a thinner tire/wheel, trim that one or modify the inner fenders. If the tires fit under the fenders and chassis, it may be as simple as removing some of the mounting shaft on the wheels to pull them in. Raising the mounting point on the spindles is an easy way of dropping the car down but that too depends on how the kit is designed. Try the different suggestions and see which one works best for the application at hand. This is what kit-bashing is all about! Good luck and let us know how you did it! -
What is your dream model kit?
torinobradley replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Full Detail DeTomaso Pantera Full Detail Masarati Birdcage Full Detail 289 FIA Roadster And, depending on where the upcoming release of the Acadamy Daytona Coupe goes, one of those too... I, too, have the Gunze kit and plan on getting the HRM details for it but would like a full detail one for much less if it comes out. Will still probably get the HRM stuff. -
American Icon -- The Hot Rod
torinobradley replied to slantasaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The show is great, though Foose is a better car builder than he is a cue card reader... As for Foose, I'd love to meet him. Especially when he overhauls one of my cars but any other time as well. He seems like a real down-to-earth guy but maybe that's just an image he portrays on TV. I also share the aforementioned opinion on Boyd. I love his cars but can't stand that type of manager. Every show, everyone had to work nights and weekends to meet deadlines that Boyd set. Funny thing was, you'd see a guy leave American Hotrod and show up on Overhaulin... I got the ol' DVR set to record those icon shows, that's for sure... -
First pic, just how fast was that mountain bike going???? Talk about crash & burn... Second... Too close to home... '68 Fairlane 500 Formal. I have pretty much the exact car in my garage with a few different badges. '68 Torino GT Formal. Same color even... Nice pics!!! I would love to find that locally

Don't forget the Pontiac Skyhawk(?) that also shared the same 1"X2" box frame, 4 piece engine and two piece tires... Always wanted to take one of these bodies and sit it over a correct Mustang II chassis. I do like the wheels you chose.

Accurate Miniatures Corvettes
torinobradley replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There were 5 original Grand Sport Corvettes (Chevy, not AM). Accurate made four different versions but fell before the roadster was done. There is a roadster in resin, or maybe 2? One is from Historic Racing Miniatures (http://www.islandcollectibles.net/prod022211.htm). They are conversion kits that use the AM GS as a base. Vintage Racing Miniatures (http://www.v-r-m.com/) also makes some beautiful decal sheets for these cars. Two sheets with 5 versions on each sheet meaning you can pretty much have over 10 different versions of this car to choose in building. Plus, the VRM sheets have lots of other goodies not on the kit decals like inspecion stickers, underhood labels and such. Well worth the $15! Historic Racing Miniatures does some resin pieces for this car as well such as better headers, upper control arms, wheels, Nassau hood, four barrel air cleaner and the like. Model Car Garage has a Photoetch and resin set for it too that includes a nicer transmission and differential cooler(http://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=181). These are beautiful kits to start with, even with the finicky fit issues, though I have yet to complete one... I can say, on the one I am building, the frame looks awesome with the photo-etched bracketry. If and when your ready to build, I have a lot of links for info on the actuall cars, including the restoration of one of them. Let me know if you need 'em... -
It looks awesome! But... The license plate doesn't say "I EAT Z28"... And where's the "6.6"? (those of you that are lost, look up the lyrics to the song)

Corvette Differential
torinobradley replied to Hoosierfarmboy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
IIRC, the Stingray III also has it (correct me if I'm wrong). And for one that is not Chevy, the Shelby Series 1 has an Olds engine and ZF Transaxle. -
Stalled projects; we all have them.
torinobradley replied to whale392's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got quite a few. Here are the ones with photo evidence: '34 Fastback LSR '34 Roadster Pickup '63 Corvette Grand Sport '34 HotWheels Sooo Fast LSR '70s Ford Truckster Not to mention the other dozens of kits sitting in my stash with little colored dots on them indicating they've been started and the hundreds of little and sometimes large sketches in folders (most used to be on a large cork board). My reasoning is that I get a new idea and start working on it, against my better judgement and desire to get the last 20 or so projects done. Right now, I'm fighting the urge to start my '32 Devil Dog Strip Ripper Ford and my '55 Italian T-Bird Thundari -
HRM sells a chassis detail kit for the Gunze Cobra Daytona along with the FIA engine for it. It's basically what you need to turn the Gunze kit into a full detail. Since I have the Gunze kit already, I figure I'll be going that route. That is, if I ever get the Grand Sport off the bench.

I got my fingers and toes crossed for this one!

death race 2000 cars
torinobradley replied to junkman1153's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You could probably build Stalones car out of the Hardcastle McCormick Coyote, though it won't have the correct vw chassis. maybe that duen buggy thing they released a few years ago might be a better candidate. I built Frankenstein's car many years ago for my sister using a Corvette. Mad the teeth out of stretched sprue and the ridge out of sheet plastic. Came out cool with airbrushed graphics. She loved it. Would be a fun build-off, to be sure. -
And I remember a Ford truck driving around here with every darn one of them on it... It even had a fenced in coral for all the little metal horses.

Iron Man hot rod
torinobradley replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hope this is not showing my ignorace but isn't the one in the movie and the pictures a '32? The HAMB note states it's a '36. Also, how about that crushed Cobra in the first one? I didn't see no fiberglass splinters.... There was also a nice Deuce in the beginning of the last Indiana Jones flick too. -
I really like this one, considering it was build way back who-knows-when. The waxed thread ignition wires date it, as well as those wonderful kidney bean halibrands... I would love to get a set of those as I am planning on using the AMT Cobra to make one of the original Shelby racers (black with yellow stripes). The nearest thing I have to them is a 1/24th set from HRM which look HUGE on this little Cobra. Anyone know if the ones in the AMT parts box are the same as the ones on this AMT? Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one.

I'm gonna have to follow along with this one! I have a Hubley '32 Chevy I've been wondering what to do with it. I also have lots of the 18th scalers sitting around, many from garage sales with missing wheels and broken parts. I wonder how that Viper V10 would look in that Chevy.... Looking good so far! Keep it up and I'll keep watching...

I had a 1976 Vega that was a former New York car without undercoating. It was lowered and had a hotrod 4 in it but the chassis was so rotted out that if I would have been involved in a collision, I would have been toast. I got rid of it when the rear lateral link tore off from the rest of the frame. It was done... No solid metal to do a repair weld.
