SHOW US YOUR STYRENE GLORY IN PRIMER!
torinobradley replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That started life as the ZZ Top Eliminator. As it sits in its box, it has a two-piece louvered belly pan, narrowed front frame to fit within the body, a substantially modified track T nose so that the wider part is on top, a Parts Pack blown hemi mated to a Ford Mark IV transaxle (mid engine, rear drive), a flip top panel on top, just like the name-sake HotWheel. I chopped the already chopped top and laid the windscreen back instead of cutting it down. It even has that huge intake scoop sticking out of the top. Started it for a HotWheels comunity build but life kinda got in the way. -
SHOW US YOUR STYRENE GLORY IN PRIMER!

Here are a few of my forgotten projects. Someday, I'll get back 'round to them but hey, it's much funner to start new ones than work on older ones, right??? '34 Fastback LSR '34 Roadster Pickup HotWheels Sooo Fast in 1/24th '70s Ford Truckster I have many more but these are the ones I have pictures of... -
The dealer is showing it's true colors in this matter, I think. A few years ago I went truck shopping and found a mis-priced truck, quite by accident. The price on the truck was $14,700 and the actual retail was closer to $22,000. The dealer honored the price on the truck and even acknowledged someone had mis-priced the truck. They took a 7k loss on that truck. Maybe the dealer is just money-hungry and not willing to accept their mistakes. His mom said he has to get his stuff back as it wasn't a good trade...

Awesome job. I like seeing models that have all the 1:1 cars would need to run. Great attention to detail!

Would those brake-scoop backing plates be available separately in 1/24-25th? I have a few projects on the drawing board that would look great with those.

I'm working on this kit now and find the engine, though fairly well detailed for it's age, is a bit too thin. I glued both sides to a sheet of plastic about 2mm in thickness and it looks much more accurate. The only other mods I had to do for the engine is file down a bit on the trans tunnel and the insides of the motor mounts. The custom top they have is not a LeMans top they used in racing. I do welcome the kidney bean halibrands though. I wonder if the wheel widths and tires are going to be more accurate.

I'm liking this, a lot! That car sits just right! I thought about doing this to my little AMT 1/43rds. I was looking for the Tron wheels and can't seem to find them offered individually. Do you have a sorce? The Plato's Place has hundreds of decals, many of which I would like for future projects. And, in whatever scale you need! Great source!

AMT Shelby USRRC Cobra Update 5/23
torinobradley replied to torinobradley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The Revell '56 I'm thinking of is the one reissued as the Roth shop truck with all the opening doors and fiddly parts. Is that one a 1/24th? Does anyone know if the AMT cobra will fit on one of the Edlebrock sprint car trailers? I don't have the sprint car kit so I can't compare. -
AMT Shelby USRRC Cobra Update 5/23
torinobradley replied to torinobradley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I do like the coventry cobra and think that would be an awesome combination. I have found a site that does full size decals for the car so maybe I can use the picture to create some smaller ones. I will have to work on it. Though, I still like the black car with yellow stripes. I changed the title to say USRRC instead of FIA so I am being correct. Thanks for all the knowledge passed along from our viewers! -
AMT Shelby USRRC Cobra Update 5/23
torinobradley replied to torinobradley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for the comments. The fender flares are modeled after the early cobras. They had the more angular flares and don't appear to affect the door. The attached picture is the style I'm going for though not the actual car (unless I can find the decals for it). That would be a cool team to do with the Revell '56 Pickup and maybe the sprint car trailer? Look at CSX 2127, 2128 and 2129 to see what I'm going for. Maybe they weren't FIAs? My car is supposed to be about the 1963 race type. I want to use the Black overall paint with yellow nose and fender stripes decals but will need to find a second set as the kit ones appear to be too thin. I have also began work on thinning the windshield frame. This is turning out to be a fun little project and allowing me to stretch my skills a bit. Keep the comments coming. -
I tried to stop myself but I just couldn't let it sit until I finished other projects in progress (or not in progress)... I recieved a partial kit in a package deal and then bought one with a resin FIA body. When I received the Cobra with the resin body, I found the body to be 1/24th and the kit to be 1/25th so that was a no-go. Well, I threw them both into the same box (the partial kit and the doner kit without the 1/24th body) and let it sit. A week or so ago, I grabbed the kit because I was checking out some of the USRRC Cobras on the web and got the urge to mess with a kit. Before I knew it, I had the doors cut off and started on thinning them to scale. One of my peeves about this kit is how thin the motor appears. I know the SBF is a smaller motor but this little cobra kit has a 289 on a diet! So, I glued both motor halves to a thicker piece of plastic to give it some bulk. I noticed the oil pan did not match the racing ones utilized so I grabbed some exoxy putty and went to town on the kit supplied one. I also started doing some other work like smoothing the chassis, removing seam lines and filing these springs to look more presentable. I also started working on cleaning up the body. This is an older kit designed in the '60s and it shows its age in some places. I added the rear fender flares but have not added the fronts yet. I glued in a thin filler in the door spaces to create the door sills but decided not to cut it to minimize chassis flex. Here is the fender flares and the intial shaping. I'll let the putty cure a while longer then sand them to their final shape. Since I widened the engine, I would have to source a new intake manifold or modify the kit one. Comapring the kit and parts box units I had to the actual hardware on the 1:1, I decided to scratch one up as the available ones look downright tragic. I also grabbed a parts box water pump/front cover to replace the anemic kit supplied one though I did use the kit one as a spacer and timing cover. I have also sourced a thicker set of valve covers to replace the anemic ones from the kit. The intake and oil pan are not complete as they need details, flanges, water necks and such but you get the idea from the pictures of what they will eventually look like. I plan to use the Goodyear Blue Streaks with Parts Pack Halibrands and some white metal knock-offs I found. The rear wheels will be deepened. I have also cut the half-shafts off the rear end and replaced them with a pair out of a parts Vette. I don't plan to go total nuts on this kit, just want to make it look much better and maybe raise a few eyebrows. Thanks for looking and please let me know if you see any mistakes I am making before they get too far... I done a lot of research but somethings are just hard to find reference for.

organizing your spare parts
torinobradley replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have pretty much a combination of all the above. I have large plastic bins under the bed for the main junkyard and a second one for bagged "rebuilders". Then I have a bookshelf full of the clear plastic shoe boxes with different parts in them. One would have wheel and tire sets that are bagged, another is a box labeled "Ts and As" that has, no, not those, but model Ts and As in it. Another has whole engines bagged and labeled, another has resin parts, special parts, photo etched, wires, etc... Also put current projects in some of them as well when I don't have a box for it. I also have quite a few of the flat, adjustable slot plastic boxes with various parts sorted in them, a couple for suspension parts, three or four for engines, several for wheel sets and wheel/tire sets as well. Plus a bunch for other miscellanious parts. I also have larger plastic boxes for common stuff like small block motors, big block, etc. I also have some larger parts bins that were orginally terminal bins at a car parts store that are about 24"X36". Those are great for sorting out tires. All paints and tools are sorted simularly as well. Makes it much easier to just pull out the box that has all the blades in it, rather than search for a while for a replacement #11... I used to use the big, tall drawer cabinets for sorting parts but after my cat knocked it over and the drawers went everywhere, spilling all those little bitty parts into the carpet... I was finding parts the next six months and still haven't sorted everything back out. -
how about wide whites, red wheels to match the interior, chassis & graphics and stock 40 hubcaps & trim rings?

We have all three consoles in the house, PS3, 360 and Wii. The PS3 and 360 get the most of the time and that is split between myself, Son and Wife. Wife likes the dance games on 360 and does it in workout mode. Kid loves the Left for Dead, all the HALOs and nazi zombie stuff as well as Little Big Planet 1 & 2. Right now, I've been playing Walking Dead, Skyrim and I Am Alive. Lost all my good cars (including 2 Toyota 7s, Veyron and Chaparral J) in the last YLOD. I was not happy and it wasn't the first time. Since then, I haven't been back. I will, but the idea of starting over a third time is not a good one. Though I have Plus now so my games will be saved. On the PS3, I'm torinobradley. Haven't done the 360 live bit yet but will soon.

what kit has certain parts
torinobradley replied to John Pol's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think just having a big list of what parts are available in what kits would be invaluable. A list of what engine/engines are included, trans, wheels, hubcaps, custom parts, racing parts and the like would be an awesome tool for all us kit-bashers. Even have a section for notes such as "Very well detailed small block Chevy motor with a powerglide & heads with accurate casting marks on the ends." Would be especially good if you had a searchable database... Would take a lot of work considering how many different kits and different releases of those kits are out there now. -
Corvette Grand Sport March Madness
torinobradley replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
From my research, the color most often credited to #004 (box top version) is the Caddy color Pelham blue from '60 (IIRC). Though I have been told that it was a slightly modified version and it appears to have a touch more silver in it (when you look at the pictures on the restoration site). Thought that may be an effect of the lighting... I can't help you with the current colors for our hobby. One of the hobby paint makers (not Testor or Tamiya, the mail order exact color ones) was supposed to be coming out with the correct Mecom blue some time ago but I haven't seen nor heard of it yet. I was going to purchase the color from a local auto paint supplier. I think all but the most anal amoung us would accept any suitably shaded, barely light, metalic blue. -
Awesome build-up of an older, one-piece chassis kit of one of my favorite 1:1 subjects. It looks like you got the windshield trim right, as well! Kudos!

Looking For Info On A Truck Kit
torinobradley replied to Bart68's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was the Revell Sneaky Pete. -
I'll be following this one as it and the Rebel one are on the long list to the bench. Like you say, the more research you do, the more questions you have... I will be interested in how you tackle the headlights and what wheels you plan to use. Flares look great!

I, too love these kits and have several in my stash. I am also always on the lookout for more. One thing I saw on another abiet foriegn board is a photo-etched engine kit for the little 356. It replaces the finned block with alternating photo-etched plates and looks amazing when finished. It appears to be available through gdetail factory. http://api.viglink.c..._13397029126162

There are some pics on this site, though you have to look through them to single out the GT40 Mk I and prototype: http://public.fotki.com/JCole/11_fomoco/11_ford_gt_gt40__gt90/ Another one that has the race seasons of the different years and cars: http://www.nvsaac.com/gallery/gt40_main.htm And a few more: http://www.carstyling.ru/en/car/1964_ford_gt40/ Good luck!

In my opinion, your better off with the 351C from the '70 Mach 1 and the transaxle from the Series One.
