Master Builder Profiles
Gregg replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, I've been doing these for years. I used to call them "Five Minutes With" Haven't done one in a while, it's more of a time and space continuine thingee (I know, spell check the darn words) Haven't had anyone lately who is interesting enough to do a profile on All you guys are boring!!!!! JUST KIDDING! And of course, don't forget all the tributes I do I am always open to new ideas though. -
You guys are on a roll all right. A few of the models I don't know of, so I will have to look them up. And yes, this is about the model, not the builder :-)

Here's one for everyone to put their two cents in. I am looking for the top, say, fifty models of "our" time, the modern era, from the start of Gary Schmidt's trend-setting mag, the good `old SAE, till now: What are the best model or models that you have seen or know of. Please send as detailed description, or reference, picture, or link to, the model you think is "One Of The Best" Send your email to me I have rhymes to my reasons, and I want your input to my ideas. For me, it would be, in no particular order: John MacGowan's `37 Ford Woody and yellow `41 Willys (there's a reason this is first for me) Augie's models (all of them) Bruce Owen's GSL Winner (that red thingee) Jim Drew's 1/12 Corvette Randy Derr's 1/12 Sunoco Camaro (one of my top ones) Don Fahrni's Old P/S Juha Ario's models (all of them) My Spanish scratchbuider, Francisco Pulido Luque Gerald Wingrove's models Dave Cummins' Bugatti I could go on and on, or maybe I should, but I want your opinions on this also I have seen in my humble opinion, at least thousands and thousands of models over the past ten years of doing the mag. I added it up one year, and I had over 12,000 spec sheets!!!! Now, do the math, and yes, you can say WOW!!!! I have almost all of those spec sheets still. They take up a bookcase here in the office. So, let's hear what you have to say, please!

I have been racking both of my brain cells for the past day, and I can't come up with an answer or source. I have seen 1/12 rims for Euro cars, but can't recall any for Street Rods or Street Machines Anyone out there have any ideas?

Tell Ted Gregg said he needs to learn how to paint!!!!! and of course, that I still love him :-) Incredible work, and getting better every year Great pics too!

Black Window Trim - Black Chrome Bare Metal Foil?
Gregg replied to BobUnk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tried it once, and threw it away Sorry, I love BMF, but anything but their chrome is a waste of time, and money I wrote to them once, and never got a response Go figure! It's not that I don't have to use Lysol after #2, I do, my wife will attest to that, it's just that you would thunk that a response would be given, in this situation. Oh well...... Hope this didn't throw too many of you off (Bob, I know, you are past that.....) Taping and masking works best for me. (Yes, I build, I know, I know, go figure :-)) Airbrushing is probably even better, leave that to Mr. D for his input.... -
Don't know what is going on!!! It must be a PC thing :-)

Black Window Trim - Black Chrome Bare Metal Foil?
Gregg replied to BobUnk's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Those huge magic markers work good too, but you have to play around to see which one has the darkest black, I use the chisel point one from Sharpie Professional But, I like Steef's way, which I do when I want a perfect job I use the Tamiya masking tape, take time with it, and tape rest of body up, and use Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black in super light coats Patience is the key I think window trims are what makes a model stand out Look at any good diecast (Franklin Mint, CMC, GMP), and you will see perfect window trim, which to me is what catches the eye first.. Sloppy prep work on window trim shows up big time when you paint it, so take time to sand, prime, and resand all the window trim areas -
I just heard this from the the web: "publication of Toy Cars & Models Magazine after the February 2008 issue will cease, as will Toy Shop Magazine after March 2008"

Welcome, Spyder! I'm sure one of our resident air brush guru's can answer this one better than me. I haven't used the Testors Acrylic paints yet But I do primer almost everything before I paint The Tamiya Primers are the best, but expensive Napa has some cheap primer surfacers that work great, as does Bondo, Dupli-Color and others Get primer surfacer, lacquer prefered, and use very light coats

Gregg replied to Aaronw's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
ENOUGH!!!! Both of you, go to your rooms!!!! And Don, my phones off :-) Enough already It's like okole puka, everone has one, opinions, that is!!! Andy is right Don is right I am left out No enough We all have our ways of doing resin I just email the boys and tell them what I want and they send it, can't be simplier than that, right???? And it's cheaper :-) No, go to your rooms!!!! -
Actually, my background music is Hawaiian music, of course. Talk show hosts are so full of themselves, think their opinion matters, and they are always right. Sorry, don't like them, but they are fun to laugh at some times!!!! Nothing beats a good jam with a great slack key guitarist and an incredible voice, telling stories of our land, the way it was...
