Good luck to our northern neighbors
samdiego replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've wanted to drive one of these conversions for a while. Might make a nice "stranded in the blizzard of '11" project or you could go this route And for battling the Snow Cylons. -
Arizona follows Chicago down the tubes ...
samdiego replied to Foxer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's Bisbee. I don't think they've updated to tubes yet. They are a mile high. I know that area well as most of my family has been there for decades. That might be a low temp record for them. The crazy part (crazy and Bisbee kinda go together) is that they are all the way down on the border with Mexico. Can't be good for the cactuses -

Is that one yours? Why didn't that turn out to be a good idea? I thought the Chevy bodied ride was pretty cool -

I just would like to point out that the California Board of Tourism requires that we, as residents, extol the virtues of our weather. Personally, I really miss extreme snow and always enjoyed the experience of the Ohio winters. While I realize the severity of the conditions and hope all of you emerge unscathed, I'm wishin I was back in Marion, Ohio for this one. My parents had a thing for country living and our gravel road was the always the last to be plowed. Being cut off for most of a week was never a surprise. If played right and the Gods were willing, it was pretty neat. -

Does that thing really work? Or maybe better, did it work? I've seen a lot of different takes on snow vehicles but this is the first screw type. It doesn't look like it's been used recently. Is snow what it was built for? -

I left Ohio after the Great Blizzard of '78. And I now brag that the only snow that I have dealt with since '78 is the snow that I photoshopped onto my avatar. Although it is supposed to plummet into the high 50's tomorrow. -
Your all time top favorite model?
samdiego replied to ra7c7er's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is the hardest of hard questions for me. And I have no explanation for the answer. If you go by how many I have actually had it would be the AMT Merc or the Beer wagon. The BW was one of my very first and it just made a huge impression. Since the 60's, I've probably done 5 or 6. I would actually love to do this in 1:1 scale. I think that it would be one of the easier TD creations to scale up. I realize it wouldn't be a daily driver, but I think it would be a popular thing at the car shows My best attempts at both to date -
One point that might be touched on a little more can be likened to Star Trek. I would love to see another ST based series, but what would they do? Every possible story line has been done, usually multiple times. In the effort to avoid becoming stale or stagnant, you fool around with stuff. Even with barely more than a handfull of articles under my byline, I make an effort to not seem repetitive and, for me, humor is an easily accessible tool. I recall that my favorite instructors were also able to add just enough levity to makee things a little more personable. My favorite writers, too. I included some personal info in the review of the Revell 442. It was brief. I thought it was relevant and I wanted to pay a bit of tribute to my Dad, who reads the mag. I favor that route over adding a lot of information about the 1:1. There is no shortage of reference material on most of the full size things, I generally stick with the info as it pertains to the kit. I get somewhat irritated by model articles that are 12 paragraphs on the real car and 2 on the model. But, sometimes you have to do that too. I guess the bottom line is that, sooner or later, everybody finds stuff that they skip over but they also find stuff that they read more than once and for different reasons. I was geeked over th Marion Power Shovel story because I grew up in Marion, Ohio and drove by that old factory every day (they also made the giant crawlers that NASA carries shuttles around with). But I can see where the Tuner modeler might never have stopped on those pages. As for the MCM horn tooting, what better forum?

Yeah, I recognize that front axle problem. I think I've broken three of them so far, they are a little fragile. I've drilled and pinned mine back together. you can email Revell for replacements, too.

Dr Cranky's B-Day!!!!!

Happy Day! -
In 1982 or '83 I discovered that entering the World of Wheels Model Car Contests gained you free entry hours before the doors opened. One morning I found Ed Roth and Von Franco setting up their T-shirt booth. I spent about 2 hours with these guys. That's where he autographed the R&C cover. I had this AMT Merc with me as one of my entries. Ed named it Mooncake.

Beatnik Bandit Bonuses
samdiego replied to samdiego's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't answer that, the one I have in front of me now is the Hot Rod issue as in mr moto's post I can't see where it would be worth the trouble to block off where those parts are, i would bet they are still included -
What was this thread about? I'm afraid we have accidently hijacked MLB's original intent. Sorry, Dude, all I remember was an awesome redo of an Olds bank by John Goschke. And then it became neccessary to inform the forum that The Incredibles is in my top 5 movies list. How does that happen?

I'm kinda liking the Tall T look and it's giving me ideas since I've already built this car a couple of times. he also used the zoomie style headers. Thanks for helpin', mi amigos -
Ok, seriously. For me once the movie starts, it mostly just becomes a movie. Animated or live-action, either it captures me or not. I enjoyed Cars but thought it a little formulaic. It is a Disney thing so it's no surprise. They are the king of the money machines and their scientifically proven formulas are their meal ticket. Technically, Cars was an excellent piece of work. I'm definitely a fan of John Lassiter. The Incredibles is a lot higher on my faves list than Cars and I'm bummed that they won't part two that one. I just saw Up and while the animation might have reset the high bar, I found the tale a little dark with a few missed opportunities for some lightening I am a sucker for a good toy line, talking with a friend I guessed that I had maybe 17-20 of the Cars cars. After counting, the tally was 65 and I'm guessing that more will be on the way supplementing an already huge toy line. C'mon who can resist a 70's camper with an Elvis do?

I'm with George, I prefer real movies like The Incredibles.

Expired paint?
samdiego replied to shatteredsoul76's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Until you have to hammer in the stir stick and then you might still be able to reconstitute the stuff. Maybe not for the airbrush though. I had a very old spraycan of Testor's Sea Blue, could have been 15 years old, maybe older, and had never been opened. I shot a '58 Impala (it's in the gallery) and it behaved just like the Old School Testor's is supposed to. -

Does the Road Agent have that cover behind the bubble? Did these two kits share a tree? Those look like the same wings. I've never had an RA kit. -
