I've decided that Matt Stone has replaced Sam Posey as the most annoying personality in CarTV World. he's got a great voice for the magazines. In the span of fifteen minutes He dclared green a primary color, talked up a 3x2 "four Barrel" and stepped on a point Steve Magnante was making to exclaim for the umpteenth time that the car rolling ove the undercam was shiny in the right places and um . . . The cliche he's mangled for years is "shiny in the right places, not shiny in the right places" but I've never heard him get it right. It's time to put that on the shelf with "Win on Sunday . . ."

Scoop cover logo?
samdiego replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember some that had the motor brand or car name hand lettered. I don't think sponsor logos would have been a big deal as the car didn't run with the cover in place and wouldn't be eligible for the contingency cash. -
Scary, I know. But absolutely true. C'mon you've never studied the specular reflection changes whilst having a little Plum Pudding?

Or a new '34, by Revell, in the same vein as the '32. Maybe even pre-chopped. -

Coolest thing? From whose perspective? My first post, #24, was from my point of view. This one is as considered by an innocent bystander. Weeks after high school graduation in Central Ohio, I decided to explore the world from my sister's in So. Arizona. My Brother-in Law (great guy) was a masonry contractor at the time and put me to work. Spending entire work days dealing with really heavy stuff led to noticeable changes in my physique. One afternoon we stop at Sears and as Paul is picking up tools, I browse sporting goods and spot something I have no experience with what-so-ever, a loaded barbell. I move past the row of bikes and by the shopping cart size wire bins of softballs and baseballs hung on pegboard. I calculate about 150 pounds before me and also notice that it's not bolted down. Okay, I saw weightlifting on TV a few years ago, I can totally jerk this thing. And I do, triumphantly hoisting it high overhead and immediately realizing three things. 1. These display weights were hollow and I really only had about twenty pounds in my hands. 2. I was exerting about ten times the amount of force that would normally be used lifting twenty pounds. 3. I was actually swinging a twenty pound wrecking ball at the wire bins behind me holding several dozen base and soft balls. Attended by what could have been the soundtrack for the New York Central colliding with a cruise ship, the top basket came loose from one side, dumping itself and the softballs onto the lower basket which dumped its load of baseballs, swinging by one hook to strike and cause the most beautiful domino effect with the row of bicycles. Yay! It was like a Rube Goldberg event. I was so proud. Would have loved to have seen it from my Brother in Law's perspective. Hiding behind the lawnmowers and laughing at that poor bastard in sporting goods. Totally cool

Now I'm remembering my worst personal model tragedy and the cause was all DOG. SAE used two of my cars, a chopped AMT Merc and a Revell Willys Coupe around June of '86. Naturally this earned them the place of honor on top of the TV. The idiot Weimereiner was outside and discovered the delicious TV cable where it entered the house and in chewing on it, pulled hard enough to drag the 26" TV off of the table (inside) it was on. It landed face first with these cars and a Gunze 250 GTO underneath. Stupid dogs. That being said, We're watching you George -

They used to spray the vehicles with milk to keep the glares and flares down. Same reason they removed the glass. -

I've seen a lot of damage done by dog tails, too -
finding a foundation that truly matches my skintone . . .wait, that's the other modeling website No really, I did earthquake damage repair on the Bay Bridge in Oakland. Cruising across the bay at dawn on our work boat, cruising under the Golden Gate just because, climbing all over that bridge. Then I invented the Interweb

I'm also a huge fan of watching paint dry and I really like fruitcake

There are no cats in this picture There might be in this one My favorite thing is seeing the cat go by and noticing a freshly clearcoated part stuck in the tail -
Awesome technique with the sprue. It could just be me, but I'll stretch sprue just for the entertainment factor from time to time. It's one of those skills that only takes a minute to master. One of the great things is its ability to go taught again with the precise application of heat when used for things like aircraft antennae wire. The biggest drawback is that when it's stretched to less than a hair's thickness it becomes invisible enough that I frequently break them because I forget that they are there.

Are you kidding me? Could there have been a more comprehensive answer? That's one of the reasons I love this site. Well done, Mark -
A lot of my models withstand a very careful washing. I use an old makeup brush, diluted carwash solution and the barest trickle of warm water. VERY carefully. Keep a strainer in the drain, too. If done right it gets all of the dirt and won't disturb Krystal Klear adhered parts

I totally cheated on this one. The only painted parts are the blower drive and the swag lamp inside The car art on the interior wall isn't wrinkled, that's a reflection

The one above is scratch built so is this one. The pickups here are the PE fender vents from AMT's 57 Chevy -

Who's got the most trophies?
samdiego replied to samdiego's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The stein is leftover from the first release of the Beer Wagon. Two trophies in the back row are mine, the crankshaft topped with a metal miniature of the Monopoly car and the curled piece of brass from a photoetch fret stuck to a spaceship part (it's art . . .yes it is . . .yes it is . . .) I love accessories like these, it's like styrene dessert. The others are mostly mysterious, Revell's Merc trophy, second from right. I think 4 or 5 of them are from different releases of the AMT Merc. I thought it was funny that Revell included a trophy in theirs. The Guitar is from 4 pieces of styrene stock, filed to shape with old racing harness photoetch for the pickups and nut and bolt castings for the knobs. The giant one on the left is from a Speed Racer toy. I think my fave is the piston, 4th from the left. I did that one in the 80s. Please feel free to ID any others. -
You knew that I meant tiny ones, right?

Thanks. It's all in the BH kit but the parts for the custom version weren't mentioned in the box art for the latest release from a few years ago. The shifter is the only addition. either really cool or butt ugly, I'm wafflin'
