  1. I also meant to ask what GREY that is that you used for the chassis and tranny?
  2. WOW!!! That is looking great! What flocking did you use? It looks really good!
  3. WOW!!!!! I just checked out your web page, and WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!! YOU CAN BUILD LIKE MFER!!!! Very impressed!
  4. BIG fan of the rusties and a BIG fan of this kicka$$ build!!! VERY KICKA$$!!!!
  5. Even if I used the revell frame I couldn't use the vintage axle. So I'm just gonna save that set-up for a later build that will be more of a traditional build. Everything else fits nicely into the AMT frame. The Nascar style rims will be easily adapted to the newer axle, and the front I-Beam axle will mate right up to the Nascar rims. You knnow how it is. You get an idea in your head and you just don't wanna stray away from it for nothing, but I'm getting sick of trying to make everything I want work. So, its on to plan B. Rear stock axle, I-Beam front axle, Nascar rims, and the tires that came in the kit.
  6. PART #2. Along with the axle problem there is the wheel choices. Now I love the white walls that came in the P/UP kit, but they attatch via 1/16" metal rod and the stock drive train has the mushroom "POP" type, which if I can't get the vintage axle to work, then those get thrown out. I could make them work, but then I'd have to use disk brakes. UGH! Then there are the wheels I REALLY wanna run. Same problem though. Then theres the middle, more modern wheel choice that WORKS with the stock axles. I like them, but I love the Cragar look-a-likes more. Then if I do run the vintage set-up I have to cut a HUGE part of the frame off to put the rear leaf-spring in place. If it aint one thing its another with this project. I guess it all boils down to a decision or 2. ANY TIPS OR ADVISE WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED!!! PLEASE....... "MUST HAVE INPUT."- Jonny #5 from Short Circuit
  7. FIRST. THE INSPIRATION. Okay. Got some pics taken to show you guys my pain. I haven't gotten very far because there are so many variables. Every time I chang one thing I have to change the entire set up. First is the frame. I am using the frame from the AMT Ford Phantom Vickie. Then I also have the '29 Ford P/up that I am WANTING to use the front and rear axle from, but the rear axle's stabilizer bars hit the frame. The front won't be a problem. Stock axle. '29 axle Here is where I pull my hair out. I really like the look of the vintage rear axle, but it is 11/32" longer than the stock drive line. AND, the stabilizer bars are part of the drum brake covers which means I have to lose the brakes as well to fix this problem.
  8. I would love to see a more modern type of tubular k-member frame with a modern suspension and optional vintage suspension/drivetrain set-up. Now, before anyone gets their panties in a bunch, remember what I said in one of my previous posts. "I HAVE NO IDEA whats what when it comes whats out, whats not, when it was out, how long, if its a retool, new tool, old tool, or a re-pop." I also do not claim to know whats already in any of the other 32 kits since I only have the latest 32 Sedan kit. Which I am in LOVE with. There are SO MANY choices when it comes to customizing one of these kits. It all depends on your own building skills/confidence/preference/wallets. I'm a gearhead, so, I like basically ANY style hotrod/ratrod as long as it is not a trailer queen. I have always had a problem with the ppl who only drive their cars on or off the trailer. I believe that once a car is turned into a trailer queen you take away its soul! AND A CAR WITHOUT A SOUL IS JUST A PILE OF SHEET METAL AND PAINT.
  9. I really wanna get my hands on the competition parts pack!!! IT HAS THE RIMS I NEED!!!
  10. Thats why I ususally don't open my mouth about what is out, what is not, what was re-popped and how long ago. I knew they had been re-popped, but thought it was an early to mid '90's re-pop. I HAVE NO IDEA whats what when it comes whats out, whats not, when it was out, how long, if its a retool, new tool, old tool, or a re-pop. Thats why I usually pay close attention to these threads. Gotta learn somehow. I have seen plenty of the parts packs at the shows/swap meets and have been looking for a nailhead pack for awhile and that is the only one I haven't seen plenty of. We had our annual model show/swap meet Sat. and seen a guy that had about 4 or 5 and never got rid of them. It makes sense after reading your post. I have a very small collection of spare engines, but thats only because I've bought a few kits for parts. Thanks for the informative info Mark.
  11. I REALLY wish Revell would bring their accessories pack back again. Especially the engine packs! I know they have the molds laying around the shop. (shouting at Revell) WHATDAYA THINK REVELL?? WANNA JUST SLIDE THEM INTO A PRESS FOR OLD TIMES SAKE?? C'MON, YA NOW YA WANT TO.
  12. Hey, why don't we just start a poll?? We could make a list of what everyone is looking forward to seeing and put together a voting poll to keep the whining down a bit. Wait......... could we do a poll where you could vote on more than one thing? Maybe that aint the greatest way to do it afterall.
  13. I'm down for a NAILHEAD TOO!!! BTW....... What kits have the Nailhead? Never had one...... Want one. Nevermind, I'll just start a new thread.
  14. DID ANYONE NOTICE WHAT THEM 2 WERE TALKING ABOUT AT THE END OF THAT INTERVIEW???? He was talking about starting a plastic kit line. HMMMMM........I know that doesn't mean he'll jump into our American cars, but that doesn't mean he isn't thinking about it. He made it sound like it was just gonna be done to see how well he could do it. Just food for thought. I'm not trying to start anymore crazy talk, just throwin it out there for some others thoughts.
  15. Mark, I wish there was a way to download all of your knowledge onto a file......
  16. I get all gitty inside every time I read that they MAY be planning a new truck tool........ Must.........Not............Blow............Gasket!
  17. W/M has been know to dictate what, how, and WHERE companies make their product. Thats why it is EVIL! Not everything was made in China and Taiwan until W/M CONTROLLED the market. They tell the companies they will not put their product on their shelves unless they follow their orders. They tell them to get their prices down to what W/M wants to pay and if the company can't they tell them to take their operations overseas. And if they don't think the product can be sold to EVERYONE they'll tell the company what to change or they won't sell it. Just realized all my capitalized words spell out "WHERE EVIL CONTROLLED EVERYONE". Freaky.
  18. Thanks Mark. I always wondered exzactly why Revell and W/M split. I kinda figured it had something to do with W/M being pushy. They're known for trying to run other businesses to their wants with no mind for the customer. I hate going to W/M!!!!! I bet I have only been in a W/M TWICE in the last year. How, you ask? Simple, They aren't the only retail store that carries everything I need. Sure, I may have to go more places now, but they're not getting my $$ anymore. THAT PLACE IS EVIL. Now, back to the subject. What about advertising? Can anyone who is close tell them we DO NOT want to see them slip away. I for one would love to see this hobby reach new heights. We could all benefit from Revell and others going mainstream AGAIN. Its not even a hobby to young kids anymore!! WTF is up with that?!?!?!?!?! I wasn't around when they were handing them out at the dealerships, but I can remember as a kid getting together with my friends and we would compete to see who could build the kit faster and better. Kids nowadays have no clue what a model is unless their parents build them. ###### video games!!! I don't let my kids play games unless they read for 2 hours first, then they only get to play for an hour. And my kids have built more models than I have in the last year and a half. Thats sad. I'm just a slow builder. Or too picky.
  19. I think the real down fall of our beloved hobby will to be as nieve as to not ADVERTISE!!! ADVERTISE!! ADVERTISE!!! Especially with Wal-Mart and other big chains no longer selling the kits anymore! That had to play a great roll in their sales?!?!?! I would love to see their numbers before and after Wal-Mart quit carrying models. I just got back into the hobby in the spring of last year and went to Wal-Mart to buy a kit and found out they didn't carry them anymore. I almost took off for the closest HobbyTown 45 miles away before I realised that Hobby Lobby carried models at all. I had only been in there once before when my ol' lady dragged me in there for scrapbooking supplies. For HER, not me....... After that though, you couldn't pull me out of there. Kids nowadays will only want a kit when they're standing in front of one on a shelf. Especially if their parent(s) don't build models. How long has it been since you've seen a Revell or AMT commercial? I can't remember ever seeing one. Isn't that business 101??? ADVERTISING?!?!?!?! How great would be if they did do a little advertising and then had the extra cash flow to justify some ALL NEW kit, or kits over a few years even?? I understand that it would be logical to stick with what ya know, but where is that gonna get ya??? Some only build the 32, Merc, or Mustangs, but I'm a gearhead, I build it all, with a passion for trucks AND muscle cars. All I'm saying is, it can't hurt for them to make ONE kit that hasn't been done or of a newer model. They'll get their money back, maybe not as fast as some other molds, who knows, maybe they'll find a whole new market?? Never know until ya get yer feet wet.
  20. I still haven't heard anyone comment on advertising!?!? And I keep hearing that they base alot of what they make by what is selling in the 1:1 market........................... WHAT ABOUT THE LAST 8 OR 9 YEARS (except the last 2) WHEN THE TRUCK MARKET WAS BOOMING??????? I work in the automotive market and I know what was selling and what wasn't. I don't remember any 32s being made in the last, uhhhhhh, 77 YEARS!!!! I know, I know, thats based on their numbers, not 1:1 before anyone blows a gasket over a joke. And what do i really know???????? I don't work at Revell or AMT....... HELL, I've only spoke to someone once on the phone at Revell, and that was ordering replacement CRAPPY CHROME parts. I know it doesn't happen very often, but what I recieved was just flat out unexceptible. I've got about 10 years of injection molding experience and I know that that doesn't happen without SOMEONE noticing. I don't have ANYTHING that has the sprue location in an inconspicuous spot on the chrome. Just like American auto manufacturers, they're behind the curve. If and when Tamiya, Aoshima, or the other Japanese companies wise up to our liking, I'm afraid they'll blow right by the companies asleep at the wheel. And I REALLY don't wanna see that happen. Their aftermarket is getting crazy over there as well. They're not exceeding us now, but give it time, we may be raving over the new 32' Ford Sedan by Tamiya before Revell even realises they made the tooling. I know in some places over there, the hotrod scene is getting heavy! I respect Tim and ART VERY VERY much, and I agree/believe with everything you guys are saying. I just dont like cold hard facts like most ppl. because most of the time its a buzz kill, but thats what is needed, SOMETIMES. It looks good on paper, but you never really know until you get your feet wet. P.S. Its not that ppl aren't still attracted to big ol' gas guzzlin' TRUCKS........... because ppl still are........... they just can't afford to gas 'em up everyday. I personally refuse to drive anything smaller than my Blazer.
  21. I was thinking along the same lines, but instead of one person e-mailing them, we put together one letter we can mostly agree on and ALL of us send the same e-mail everyday until someone gets a reply.......... Thats the only way to get someone or someTHING to listen in the money world anymore. Over in the 32 post about Revell watching that ONE thread really makes me kinda sick to think that that is THE only post they're watching, And another thing.......... Anyone who knows anything about marketing and business growth knows the NUMBER 1 rule to staying alive or blowing up is.............................................................................. ........ ADVERTISING!!!!!!!!! And not just in model magazines where there dimographic is already there........ They need to expand their horizons and go after ppl who dont know much about the hobby in the first place!!! I can speak from experience when I talk about ppl not knowing about the largeness of this hobby. I didn't know anything about the hugeness of this hobby until I ran across THIS VERY website. Revell and AMT should really be paying closer attention to this site and others like it. Especially if they want to please their customers and appeal to the rest of the market. AND THEY REALLY NEED TO START PLACING THE CHROME PARTS WHERE THE SRUE ISN'T ON THE FRONT OF THE F#$@*^!@ PART!!!!!!!! I can understand the old kits..... but not the new kits. Even the JAPANESE companies know to place the sprue on the back or where it wont be seen!!! I AM SICK OF STRIPPING AND REPAINTING CHROME!!!!!!!!
  22. I would love to see more frame options, lots of louver options, and more Flathead performance options.
  23. THE ONLY REASON THEY DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A MARKET IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER GOTTEN DEEP ENOUGH INTO THAT MARKET TO FIND OUT!!! I AM A REDNECK WHO WOULD LOVE TO BUILD MORE TRUCKS THAN ANYTHING ELSE. I CAN ONLY DO THE SAME MODEL TRUCK SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS!
  24. HEY GUYS AND GALS? I have been following the progress of the movie Deuce of Spades for over a year and a half now and I'm so excited that it will be released in December. I have been dying to see this movie. Go to the official site for some teaser trailors. http://www.bettatalk.com/deuce_of_spades_home.htm
  25. HEY THERE RICK! Yes, I got your e-mail, and thank you for the measurements.
