  1. THATS WHAT THIS IS!!! I was just drillin holes as I went until I got tired of forgettin what holes were for what size bit. I don't think I've ever had to defend a TIP before. SHEESH! This tip isn't for you 2 anyway.
  2. I can tell you without the calipers and also without trying to remember what bit is what size in decimals. Can't ya just say "That could be easier"? I have calipers, but this is easier for me because I keep my bits organized.
  3. I don't use it to identify my drill bits. I use it to correctly identify the size of hard line, ie.: music wire, ignition wire, brass and aluminum rod.
  4. At first I was drilling a hole in scrap plastic as I needed to find out what size until I ran out of room and just figured I'd make one that was labeled and in order. If I had one of the drill bit kits that had the correct size slot for the bits I don't think I would have been smart enough to do that, but I have the sets that came in the el-cheapo plastic ones that slide open. I didn't have the #80 and #79 drilled for awhile because I had broke like 4 of those before I made this so I had to wait until I ordered some new bits.
  5. Anyone here ever drill a hole for detail wire or ignition wires and find out its too big or small? > Then you have to fill it in with glue if its too big and wait for it to dry, or if its too small and you have to use a larger bit, but you can't just go one size up, you usually have to go 2 or 3 sizes up and find that you've just opened it up too much. Well, I got tired of this. I made my own wire/drill bit GAUGE. It measures 9/16" X 1-27/32" X .040" thick plastic sheet. Its that simple. I know that eventually it will get wore out and won't be accurate, but I made it so it was easy and cheap. Especially after looking at the metal one from Micro Mark and seeing that they wanted $20 for theirs! Heres a pic:
  6. Can you post the link?? I need to look at that as well. Thanks.
  7. Its true! The tub is VERY VERY wrong! I am building one right now and 90% of the build is either hand-made, aftermarket parts, parts from other kits, or HEAVILY modified! A good friend of mine, Larry Specht, from Desert Racing Modelers forum, is also building one and he remade the tub on his. I was so inspired by his build that I went back and scrapped the stuff I wasn't pleased with on mine. Heres a pic of Larry's Scout- He makes his modifications look so easy. Heres his Scout build page--->> http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/Big...%20Trail%20Rig/ While you're there, check out his coil-over tutorial. He broke it down to a 2nd grade level. I've been debating wether or not to rebuild the tub on my Scout or just leave it as is. I am really anal when it comes to stuff like that. I'm afraid if I leave it as it is, it will haunt me in my dreams. Here's my Scout and the WIP post. WIP post--->> http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...38&hl=scout Rolling chassis pic.. If you like building offroad models make sure you check out Larry's tutorials!
  8. THAT IS GONNA BE SUPER BADA$$!!! Can't wait to see it finished. What kit did the Rotary come out of? And... What size Wire Form DO you use for exhaust?
  9. That is a cool site. Lots to look at and lots of tips. Thanks for the awesome website.
  10. It has a 440 MAGNUM in it now! MOPAR POWER! I'll be running open headers that will dump right past the firewall. I'm a MOPAR fanatic. Friends don't let friends drive chevys, or ford. Even though my next build is a 32 Ford and this is an International.. But the 32 might wind up with the forever powerful elephant motor!!! If there was anything I could do differant I would have remade the interior tub because the walls are angled in towards the interior which makes it smaller than it should be. The tailgate was gonna work until I noticed it was wider that the interior wall.
  11. Thank ya. I was hopin to inspire some more offroad builds here. Theres more muscle than lift here.
  12. Heres the address for RB Motion. Its a fotki account and I also have his e-mail addy. http://public.fotki.com/cafox513/rb_motion_catalog/ rbmotion@yahoo.com
  13. Thanks for the extremely nice words. As for the hubs........ I can't take credit for that. Here is the tutorial on the hubs and ALOT more..... The guy's name is Larry and his screen name is Big Ed. He takes something that we can't wrap our mind around and he'll simplify it down to a 2nd grade level. Check out all of his builds and tutorials. He has got some serious talent, especially when it comes to TRUCKS. We hang out on a forum dedicated to dirt racing, rock crawling, general offroad trucks, and lots more. Hub tutorial: http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/Big...%20Trail%20Rig/ Larry's Photobucket: http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f135/BigEd0601/ Desert Racing Modelers: http://doghaus.proboards.com/index.cgi The only problem with this forum is that once you register, you have to wait for the moderator to approve the "account". It took me like 2 weeks to finally get approved because he was too busy then (it was right before x-mas). But its worth the wait. If you build anything offroad then you know that its almost impossible to find good aftermarket parts for our particular brand of modeling and this site is like a yellowbook for Fabrication, links, inspiration, and just SICK offroad builds. Just check it out.
  14. I totally forgot to add what is making this a Military "THEME" scout. Heres the paint scheme as of now. Decals: Military stars either in front or behind the doors, Military ID numbers, and maybe a pinup. Olive Drab: Body and Beadlocks. Flat Black: Under body/frame, roll cage (still debating on a metalizer paint for the tube work), and grille. Fabric Gray or Fabric Tan: Interior tub. Seats will be either black or a dark gray with carbon fiber decal in the center. The 440 MAGNUM will be Chrysler Engine Red. I know, I know. It might look odd to have everything a flat camo color with a BRIGHT RED motor, but I have the idea to make it all dirtied up except the motor. I want to make it look like it was taken out and romped then blew the old motor and this is the new upgrade. As far as the suspension goes: 4-Link front and rear, coil overs, and I still need to order some Heim joints from RB Motion. I also still need to find the proper military decals. I have some saved in the PC, but I'm not good at the printing process. Always looks blurry. The hood is a Challenger T/A scoop. I like it. You're the only person whose said that so far.
  15. Door jams and Shackles. I'm in the process of making the tubular half doors now. Any comments or questions welcome. More pics on my Photobucket.
  16. Custom frame and body mounts. Hand made bead locks and Locking hubs. Heres the rolling chassis pics. This is cloe to the finished ride height. These are not the axles I'll be using. I'll be using Dana 60's.
  17. Seats from the Aoshima 4Runner. Blue is just tape and that part will be carbon fiber. The seat frame allows the seats to slide back and forth. The center console is hand made, opens, and has cup holders. 440 MOPAR from the new Charger Special Edition with hand made intake that will be remade because the tubes are not straight. Also some pics of the heavily modified radiator with hand made fill neck and cap.
  18. Hey guys...... Its been awhile since I've posted anything in this area. I think I may have had a very small post on this build almost a year ago. I have quite a bit done now. Not as much as I should though. Okay, on with the pics. Rear guard with the hand made diamond plate tail light box. I also filled in the tail gate and original tail light recesses for a smoother look. Hand made tube bumper with diamond plate cover. The cover shown is not the one being used. Changed it to a smaller scale.
  19. Thanks Dave, I'm searching for a smaller one now.
  20. I was wondering if anyone has found a good fool proof way of finding true center of round objects. I'm sure that someone has a very simple solution and that is why I came here.
  21. IF YOU GOT THAT TECHNIQUE FROM DAMNCRANKY, I NEED TO FIND THAT POST. THAT TURNED OUT FANTASTIC!! I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE WEATHER BEATEN BUILDS BETTER THAN MOST. AND THAT IS AMONG MY TOP 3 OF WEATHERED BUILDS. NOT TOO LITTLE, NOT TOO MUCH, JUST RIGHT.

    The Joker

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I have never been so inspired to do a custom paint job!!!! I've always been nervous of any kind of paint job, but that gives me courage.
  23. I always wondered how you guys got the tubing flared and where you got tubing that small. Its a good thing my ol' lady is a nurse!!!
  24. OMG YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER!!!! This pic is the result of 3 days of searching the internet looking through millions of auto show pics. I knew it was at the 2007 Detroit autorama, so I just searched through millions of pics and I couldn't believe this was the only one I found. My eyes hurt sooo bad after I was done. I found plenty of pics of other KICKA$$ rats and hot rods though. I would love to see more pics of this ride!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
