Hey Marc, I have started a '71 Heavy Chevy. I am really enjoying this one. I started with a junker body which I resurrected. Pics will be coming soon. I am going to incorporate some of the things you did on your build on mine. Thanks for the inspiration.

That is a nice Dart Eric. John, I am in complete agreement with you on the Missing Link Resin Parts. I used th dog dishes on my '71 Charger build, and I am going to use the wheel covers on a Monaco Sedan.

A pair of Fairlanes under a long term restoration updated 3/31/14
Ron Hamilton replied to VW93's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Frank, Check with Motor City Resin Casters for the interior for your fairlane. I was able to get a set of bucket seats from them for my restoration project. Jeff is a great guy to do business with. Good luck on your Fairlanes. I have some of them to do myself. -

Can I make a suggestion? Get a hold of one of the JoHan '63 Starfires, and add the entire roof from a Revell, or AMT '64 Impala. Change out the side chrome, and you're on. Much easier than cutting up the resin wagon. You will have the basic grille, bumpers, and trunk lid there, as well as an engine. The interior needs work, but it is not impossible.- 12 replies

I was the inventory manager at a Chrysler dealer in the mid 2000's, and I am familiar with the car. The Magmum has a set of SRT Wheels, and the rest of the changes (i.e bumpers, etc.) I can accomplish. For the grille, I was thinking of a crosshatch mesh grille. I oogled a black SRT8 we had in inventory.

Looking at the chassis, I am going to so a little trimming on the wheelhousings on the chassis, as I want the body to just drop on it. The body looks a little soft to me out of the box. I have been looking at several one to one 300's of this generation for the various details. I have a Testors Charger R/T, which is also mocked up, and a couple of unbuilt Revell Magmums I want to compare it to. I am halfway tempted to turn it into a SRT8, as I have a couple of Magmums for the wheels and powertrains. I am not happy with the way AMT handled the body side mouldings. I am going to de-chrome them, and fit them to the body better than the kit engineering. I'll take pictures of it at the next stage.

Thanks for the heads up Mike. I did a lot of massaging and blocking of the bumpers to make them fit better to the body. I still have to block the body before I put some primer on it.

I agree with you. Black with Red is an excellent Combo for the '59 Buick. I used it on my '60.
-
I agree with you concerning the strange engine, but at this point, being that it's not a contest model, and most of it being covered up and painted, as long as it fits, I am not going to sweat it.

My first choice ia Magnsium Pearl, with the Gray Leather, but more than likely it will be Black, with the gray interior, as that is what I have. I am going to do my '55 and '57 in Black too.

A rather crusty '62 Vair. The previous owner did not use a lot of glue to install the 'Styline bit's, and it's mostly there. The paint is stubborn, as it was primered, so out came the sanding sticks. I am a little leary of using chemicals on old styrene. The front and roof are cleaned up. If things go well, I should be able to clean up the rear today. I have some Corvair parts in the stash, and I should be able to get this one back up to snuff. A friend of mine had one when I was a kid.
