  1. The entire engine with the cool Navarro intake and heads is from Revell's '48 Ford Custom Coupe. (The chopped top one, not the stock / Police version that was more recently issued.) Only thing I changed was the carburetors (from the Ed Roth Tweedy Pie T) and the headers which were made cutting up the Chevy engine weed-burner headers from Monogram's Slingster dragster.
  2. Thanks a bunch! I've seen many times over the years '35-'40 center X's grafted into '32 frames. Adds a ton of rigidity while still looking very vintage. Fitting the '48 center X into this A-style frame was a bit of a challenge but after some studying and figuring it worked out pretty good.
  3. Thanks! I was waiting for someone to point it out. It actually did fit perfectly when it was all bare plastic. Too tight clearances, too much paint!!!
  4. Fresh off the workbench! Based on Revell's short-lived '30 Ford Coupe hot rod kit. Heavily modified. - Revell '48 Ford frame center "X" member, Revell '29 Pickup rear cross member. - Kit bashed Halibrand Quick Change rear axle and spring. - Revell '32 5-Window front axle & suspension with modified shocks and mounting. - Revell '48 Ford brake plates and kit finned drums, '48 Ford master cylinder. - Revell '48 Ford Custom Coupe Navarro - equipped flathead engine with home made zoomie headers, plug wires and fuel/oil plumbing. - American mag wheels with tall & narrow M&H slicks and bias ply front tires. - Kit interior with Covico 3-spoke steering wheel and bench seat. - Roof insert panel modified with added louvers and painted aluminum, Revell '32 5-Window louvered trunk lid, modified kit '32 grill & shell and '36 Ford headlights. - Duplicolor Red with Tamiya clear rubbed out with Adam's correcting polish and coated in Adam's Buttery Wax. Comments, good and bad, welcomed!
  5. Nice project! Right up my alley. Will definitely be following along.
  6. Thanks for putting this together, Tim! I like all of them but especially the blue one with black wire wheels. That car is Race Of Gentleman perfect down to every detail. I especially live the header pipes, Edmund's air "filters" and the inclusion of the stock side aprons for that "I just stripped it down to race" look. Second favorite is the other blue one with the Caddy engine and straw colored wire wheels. The '34 truck grill looks so right on it. Not an easy thing to pull off! I'd love one just like it in full scale out in the garage.
  7. So Chuck, on a model like this do you bother to set up a complete rear axle and suspension or is it in the vein of a curbside where only things that show get addressed?
  8. You make some of the best rat rods and beaters! One detail I especially like is the wire mesh in the windows.
  9. Looks awesome, Brother! Just a timeless hot rod. Love the color scheme and the small block Ford. Those old school SVO valve covers are so sweet! Those Satco front tires are worlds better than the Dunlop low-rider tires that come with those wheels.
  10. Name it "STUBBY". Reminds of those severely shortened VW buses.
  11. I've had multiple models at the same show selected to be photographed and then later show up in the same contest coverage article in MCM. It was the first model show (non-comp NNL) that I had ever participated in. Photographer had no idea who I was, nor did anyone else. I don't think it's anything more than he walked around the tables and put a card next to what caught his eye. I was flattered that he thought enough of any of my models to photograph them. That being said, does favoritism and the "buddy system" happen? Definitely! That's life.
  12. Weren't the '39 Chevy Coupe and Sedan Delivery in the series, too?
  13. I've seen that before, love it! Here's as far as I got on my project but at least I started doing something with one of these...
  14. For as excited as people get over this kit why doesn't it get built more often? Too sacred? I bought a mint complete one a few years back for about $70 then promptly whipped out the razor saw and chopped the top 4 scale inches. It's only plastic... Now, if it actually came to pass that the Sedan body was produced again and (most logically included as a bonus option in the Woody / RPU kit) I'd definitely grab a couple for hot rod projects.
  15. And who knows if German's know how to use a measuring tape?! Or is it tape measure? It's just all so confusing...
  16. It was also just completely restored for comedian / vantriliquist Jeff Dunham who has an impressive collection.
  17. I wonder if there is a clinical name for a tape-measure fetish???
  18. Maybe the forum needs a "Safe Section" where sensitive people can go get virtual hugs just in case they accidentally encounter one of those words before a moderator can erase them?
  19. I don't think you guys are giving enough credit for interest in American cars & trucks. There is a thriving segment of interest, particularly vintage vehicles, in Germany, France, UK and the Scandanavian counties. On a weekly basis vintage cars located in the US are being sold to these countries and going on a big boat ride. Japan is another huge buyer right now. These people are hungry for American culture and are well aware of what's going on here in the States. In a lot of ways, they are doing it better and more hardcore than we are.
  20. Man, this turned out awesome! The weathering makes it look like it's been raced a few years in a row and they didn't clean the salt water spray off. I really like the wheel and tire combo and the splash aprons. What's next?
  21. Nice! Looks really neat with the roadsters Buick engine and I like the color scheme.
  22. Very cool! Digging the Red Ram and cut down Chevy rear section. Are you going to rework that hard top to fit? That would probably look awesome.
  23. Just not around here. Haven't seen that guy post here in a couple of years. Another cool wheel and tire set that would look awesome are from the Lil Coffin show rod by Monogram. Similar rear wheels and whitwall slicks with matching front wheels and skinny whitewall tires.
  24. Fantastic chop! Too bad Dr. Cranky isn't still around, he'd be all over those frame rails covered in watch parts. Since you don't seem confident with the front wheels & tires I'd suggest something else. Did the rears come from the Boothill Express? How about the front 12-spokes from that kit?
