1928 Ford Sedan 60's Style Altered UPDATED 2/10/19

Thanks! Yeah, I'm much happier with the floor now. I didn't totally like the way the seat looked at first proportionately but trimming the bottom off did the trick. -

Thanks a bunch, Tim, I was hoping you'd find this one. Plenty more details to add, yet. If you look above you'll see I added an update after you posted. And oh boy, I can't wait to check out your '30 Sedan! -
1928 Ford Sedan 60's Style Altered UPDATED 2/10/19

The first weekend without rain in a month meant lots of yard chores! But, I did get in a few hours at the bench this afternoon. I wasn't at all satisfied with the front angled floor section. It honestly didn't fit worth a darn and because I used thin .020 for the cap and it was flimsy and droopy in the center. I broke those pieces off of the firewall and decided to start over. Part of the problem was the bottom of the firewall wasn't supported or located by anything. I added some small tabs inside both sides of the body to give the firewall something to position against. That allowed me to accurately measure for the new front sloped floor and its supports I decided this time around to attach the front sloped floor to the fender unit instead of the firewall. I made the supports different this time so that the back edge of the cap would actually be level with the main floor instead of below it like before. I also made the cap out of sturdier .040" sheet like everything else. Here's the underneath. I couldn't be happier with the precise fit everywhere this time! Here's how the floor fits over the engine. Miles of clearance! With the floor finished I finished the roll cage by shortening the rear angled down bars and pinning them to the floor like the hoops. I also sanded all of the lay out pencil lines off of the floor as they were no longer needed. I decided to use the seat from Drag City Casting. I trimmed 1/8" off of the bottom of it, added a piece of .040" flat sheet across the bottom then made some drilled mounting rails, also from .040". I also added alignment pins which are glued into holes as well as to the insides of the drilled rails. Here's some full mock ups with the reworked floor, finished cage and seat. I also decided to put it up on its wheels and still the engine in for a look. It's starting to really look like a race car now! Lastly, here's one with an AMT '29 Roadster sourced hood which fits perfect. Next I'll start detailing the interior with pedals, gauges and steering. Stay tuned! -

Found a couple of hours to hit the workbench today. Took a break from the engine and chassis to get the firewall and floor roughed in. I started by making the firewall out of .040" sheet and designed in an angled toe panel that covers the trans. Because of the engine set back it mounts where the dashboard would normally be. Then I made a new floor out of .040" sheet. I also wanted to incorporate the really neat roll cage that comes in the '28 Sedan for the full drag version. Because I chopped the top I had to shorten the legs of the hoops and then I inserted mounting pins so that the hoops can be mocked up and be positively located. The seat is tentative and is one of Drag City Casting's new, better detailed Stone, Woods, Cook buckets. The roll cage also includes rear angled bars that still need to be shortened and fit but I propped them up here to show the general concept of how they go. And some mock ups with the body in place. Still more to come! -

Thanks! There was a thread in the general section just last year where the head guy at AMT was quoted confirming that the Sedan body tooling section was found and that they would eventually like to return it to the kit as a full restoration the original content. But, apparently it's going to be a big (expensive) undertaking and not going to happen any time soon. -

Haha. I took the easy way out and just drilled one big hole that I'll shove all 8 wires into and call it a day! That end of the engine is stuffed under the cowl anyway... -

I was able to spend a couple of hours at the bench this afternoon. Today I focused on the engine. The first thing I did was start making something better out of the Hilborn fuel injection from AMT's Double Dragster. I cut out the center fuel distribution block and otherwise cleaned the part up. I then made a new fuel block out of styrene stock and drilled it for future fuel lines. I also drilled the injector bodies for fuel plumbing, installed a breather / oil fill tube at the front and mounted a magneto from AMT's Chevy parts pack engine. Below is my modified piece with a straight from the box chrome intake for comparison. I still need to make intake tubes. Here's the whole engine so far. In addition to the modified injector I mounted a Hilborn cam driven fuel pump, added Moon breathers from the Revell Orange Crate to the Corvette valve covers and shortened the oil filter canister to clear the header. I also drilled all of the spark plug holes and cleaned up all of the mold lines and joints on the headers. Here's the engine set into the car and a few full view mock ups. More to come! -

Thanks! Technically, it has been reissued multiple times but after the first run the sedan body was replaced by a roadster pickup cab and bed then later an optional Woodie body was included. -
1928 Ford Sedan 60's Style Altered UPDATED 2/10/19

I started today by modifying a pair of headers from AMT's '34 5-Window Street Rod. I cut away the clunky, thick head flanges and replaced them with the nice and realistically shaped flanges from Revell's parts pack 283 Chevy engine. This also corrected the port spacing to line up with the Revell '62 Corvette cylinder heads. Then I cut away the short collectors and installed these resin-cast long collector cones that Ed sent me in a care package a while back. Then I set about making a styled front engine mounting plate. I used .040" sheet, .060" rod and detail nuts from Grandt Line. I added gusseted engine mounting brackets to the frame rails made from .020" sheet and Grandt Line nuts. Here is the engine set in place with the fabricated front mount plate and modified headers. Still lots more to do but having the engine properly mounted and the headers figured out are two big items checked off of the to-do list. -

That it did! -
I was the one most vocal at requesting to see this model with fresh, color photography. I actually saw it quite a while back on your Fotki as I snoop around there regularly. I saved all the pictures to my home PC in case yours ever go away. There was never a Modeler's Corner I didn't enjoy but the May '90 edition where you showed how to build this truck is my all time favorite. As for the truck, man does it look good for it's age! And you just absolutely nailed The Look. Okay, next request. Your final project for Modeler's Corner was a chopped '30 Sedan with a 429 engine, tube frame and pro-street style tires out back. The rear fenders were widened inward the width of the tires. It was bad ass!

Oh, the engines definitely have plenty wrong. Neither one of them is scaled correctly. They're both narrow and the Chrysler is a touch short. The SBC intakes don't fit other engines because of this and the valve cover mounting surfaces on the heads are on the wrong angle. But, here they both are re purposed and kit bashed a little bit. They get the job done.

Yeah, the Slingster scoop is small but then so is this Hilborn piece also perched atop a 2-port injector on a 6-71 blower. Like the model kit, it's barely big/long enough to fit.

Thank you, everybody, for all of your nice comments. Every one of them means a lot to me! I'm very pleased with how this model turned out. It's exactly how I envisioned it and definitely some of my best work to date. If I could build myself a '32 Roadster right now, I'd copy this model down to every detail! -

There were some definitely molded in black. A few years ago I built this using original black 60's plastic cab, bed, grill and some other pieces. I acquired it with a bunch of stuff from my Dad that he had kept since he was a kid.
