  1. No fair taking pictures of the real 1:1 interior and calling it a model. Seriously though, that looks killer! What are you using to get the decals to adhere to the semi-gloss seats?
  2. Anyone know when this will be available? Revell`s site said August, but now I am seeing some sites say late September. :(
  3. When can I get one??? I am still glad Revell stuck with the less detail/lower price direction. The subject is right, the box art is impressive, it looks as though it will build into an impressive display piece without too much fiddling, and I think this has the potential to bring alot of people who would never build a model car into the hobby. The average Ford/Mustang guy, even though there might little interest in the hobby, by just looking at the box art and it`s impressive size and might decide to give our hobby a try. If it builds nicely, he may be hooked, and we have a new recruit. However, fiddling with a couple hundred parts, trying to get doors to line up just right, and painting 20 body panels instead of several, may result in losing that person and maybe another generation or two to the hobby forever. Oh yeah....when can I get one???
  4. Good point. The metallic vs. solid color is another aspect I didn`t think of. On this one, it is in reverse compared to the Camaro (metallic stripes on the Mustang vs. solid on the Camaro). BTW, I`ve been a "shlub" in training for almost 30 years now, and still messing things up. :D Thanks everyone for the ideas. I am going to visit my Local Hobby Lobby tomorrow and try either Royal Blue Pearl or Deja Blue.
  5. Oh sorry guys, I should clarify. I`m not sure if you can see in the pictures that there appears to be a faint blue line outside of each edge of each stripe. This is where the masking tape line was originally. When I first sprayed the blue, it went right up to that line, and I guess as it dried, it pulled back from the line. When I first removed the tape, the lines were actually razor sharp. Now you can see around the front of the scoop, the white center line is actually thinner, and it gets thicker as you move across either way from it. At the front of the scoop it seems to have held its place not pulled back as much.
  6. Hmmm...interesting. I didn`t even think of that. Actually, from memory, I think I used the Tamiya tape for the Camaro, and the 3M stuff for this one. Maybe I will give the Tamiya a try?
  7. Ok, this is the first time that I remember having this much of an issue with Duplicolor sprays. Or maybe Model Master Lacquer? I am using Duplicolor Metallic Blue over Model Masters Wimbledon White. I sprayed the Wimbledon White first, sanded with 1000 grit, masked stripes and sprayed a light coat of Duplicolor clear, then sprayed the blue stripes. After a day or two, I checked on it, and noticed the blue had pulled back from the masked edge. Thinking it might have been the clear underneath, I allowed it to fully cure, then sanded again with 1000 grit really well, remasked, and then sprayed just the blue in light mist coats. After 24 hours I checked it again, and you can see in the pictures below it did the exact same thing. The only thing I can think of is some kind of incompatibility between the Model Masters and Duplicolor formulas, but I don`t ever remember having issues between the two. Some of you guys may remember my Fathom Green 1/12 Z/28 from way back when, which I used the same process for without issues. Unless you guys have any ideas, I guess I am just going to try to find another metallic blue color in the Model Master Lacquer line I guess. Here`s the Camaro that didn`t give me any fits:
  8. This is looking great! I see you used Micro Sol. Did you have trouble getting the decals to conform on some spots? I`ll also 2nd the request for the tire measurements. Anyone know when we can get one of these?
  9. Thanks for the kind words everyone. I think I am finally at a decent point with this body. I am sooooo looking forward to doing something other than body work on this thing. So far, about 2 cans of high build primer spent on this thing, which should give you an idea of how horrible this body is. I am actually blocking this one!
  10. Duplicolor right on the bare plastic?!?! That will be really nice to be able to do that. The body looks really convincing, IMO. Im not sure about the tires though. Is it just me, or are the sidewalls a little tall?
  11. I was wondering if we were ever going to see this day. Revell tooling another large scale kit!!! B) :) I cannot wait to get ahold of one of these. Did he say when they would be available? I am actually glad they molded the doors shut. I am building Revell`s 1/12 `65 Mustang Shelby, and it is a pain. I ended up glueing the doors shut anyway. I am also glad to see Revell forgoing the G**dy**r tire markings and instead putting the money into developing great kits. Hopefully this sells like crazy and we see more big scale car kits. Also, love the box art! I was planning to do mine in that color!
  12. Very cool!! I really like that Mustang too.
  13. Heh heh, sow`s ear of a kit! Thanks Bill!
  14. A little more filling and sanding. It`s getting close now. I am really glad I adjusted the coves. It makes for a much more realistic side profile. What do you guys think?
  15. I think this may have fallen off the radar for a lot of us since it was first announced months ago. I noticed, as was rumored, that Revell now has this listed as an August release! I would love to see what is inside whenever you guys get ahold of one. I probably wont get mine until sometime in September regardless. Here`s the link: http://www.revell.com/model-kits/cars/85-2623.html Thanks.
  16. This thing is fighting me for sure, but I am keeping my head together and not losing it. Though it is tempting.... I am pretty sure I am going to have to leave the roof line alone after looking this over. All the window trim is molded as separate pieces, even around the side windows. And any minor modification to one part, let`s say the door window openings, will only exaggerate the inaccuracies elsewhere. I think major hacking is going to be outside of the scope of this project. I did make some progress on the rear fenders and the coves on the sides. Some minor tweaking is needed to get it perfect. High-build primer is going to be my friend on this project.
  17. This is the Revell kit, the Road and Track `65 Shelby. I think it came out in the `80s. The body is really rough. The customer is asking for Wimbeldon White with blue stripes, so that is what it will be. What do you guys think of the roof line/door window lines? It is tempting to go at them with a razor saw.
  18. Thanks again for the kind words everyone!
  19. I`m back after taking a long break from any serious building. And because I am apparently a glutton for punishment, I decided to go ahead and build this one. This is a really rough mold for sure. It is very toy-like, and every body part is requiring heavy sanding to get them to line up. I am making alot of modification to the body to try to get something that resembles a fastback Mustang. What you see here is already at least 10 hours of grinding, sanding, reshaping, and filling. This will likely take a couple months to complete:
  20. Hanover? Really? For a while there I was heading to a hobby store in Hanover every weekend. It was well stocked and had a nice selection of old and new kits, paints and supplies, and aftermarket parts, but closed down several years ago. I assumed from a lack of business. Not sure how a new one is going to do thee, but I hope it works out.
  21. Uggh. And I have like 10 more `8x-`9x kits left to build.
  22. Wow. Really surprised to see so many comments on this one! Thanks everyone! Here is the exact kit I used: Most of the fitment issues were with the body, especially the hood which seemed like it just did not want to line up with the rest of the body. It took alot of sanding and bending to get it close. I didn`t even bother to install the headlights bracket and all that under the hood, as it interfered with the engine and lifted the hood off the car a good scale 4 inches or so. The rest of the body took alot af sanding, filling, and scribing. The rear suspension was just a mess. With all the problems worked out, it seems to be a pretty accurate and detailed kit though. I was actually surprised at the amount of detail on this kit (even though I built versions of this kit about 20 times in the `80s and early 90`s), with the exception of the decal sheet, which only contained two decals neither of which was a real license plate. And.....I stand corrected on the year. I had this sitting right next to my `85 coupe kit, and assumed it was the same year cause they looked the same. I think it is an `87. Good eye to those that caught it.
  23. Not too much to say about this one....just wanted to build something weird. All the fitment issues, and there were alot of them, makes me appreciate how far the hobby has come in the last 25 years.
  24. BTW, I am pretty familiar with the LS1`s. Below is my White Firehawk and my wife`s Purple Trans Am, both with LS1`s: They are great engines. Mine is around 430hp at this point, and still gets 28mpg on long trips!
  25. The Revell Ram Air Firebird and Camaro SS kits both have this engine, as well as some of the older Corvette kits from `97 to 2001. IMO, they build up very nicely. I know the Ram Air Firebird is still readily available.
