  1. Really nice work! I like what you did with the wheels. And that color looks great in the pictures! I am actually building mine right now, and used Tamiya TS-39 Mica Red, and then used 3-4 coats of duplicolor Metalcast red, and finished it off with 5 coats of duplicolor clear. It has a very deep candy apple red color, which is much more on the red side of things. I`m not sure I understand what you did with the body. Is that the height the kit builds into out of the box, or do you have the body lower in the rear?
  2. That would be great. That plus a new 1/12 Camaro (new body style) and maybe even the new Challenger would all like awesome in a display!
  3. I`ve never been apathetic about the latter. I will buy whatever they re-release!! Would be nice to have either some updated street or drag options in them too, and blue and red stingers for the `vette, and Blackstripes for the Camaro.
  4. Heh heh ..... I mean....WAIT, WHAT????
  5. Thanks for the help guys! I apologize for the slow progress on this. There are not enough hours in the day! Anyway, here is the body. Notice the slightly exagurated flares in front of the rear wheels. I didn`t go to crazy with them since this is my first time working with a resin body. The color is Testors Classic White lacquer. You will have to trust me that the white is truly white and not yellow....I took these pics under incandescent light. I am also at work on the frame and engine. Hopefully I`ll get more pics up soon.
  6. Where do you guys get this "craft braid"? I just searched Michaels to no avail. Love the builds btw.
  7. I just painted a competition resins body. I am also impatient. Can these bodies be placed in the oven for curing in the same manner as a styrene body, which can handle temps up to 120? Thanks!
  8. Thanks guys. Does anyone know if you can use the decals on these Pegasus slicks? They seem really flexible for decals?
  9. Ok, I am going to attempt a WIP on this, but with the rate at which I build, it may be a while til the next update. I am going to try to replicate Tom McEwens Coors Corvette funny car: I already have the Competition Resins body, which appears to be pretty decent, although I am working on the flares in front of the rear wheels which I feel should be more noticeable. I also have the Slixx decals which will be going on once I am satisfied with the body and have it painted. I will be using the CR body, the frame and drivetrain will be from the Revell NEC funny car, Slixx decals, rear slicks from Pegasus, wheels from the `66 Malibu street rat kit, and other details from the BlueMax Mustang and Cop Out funny car kits. I will be shamelessly raping my Chuck Etchells Avenger build for test fitting. Thanks to everyone on the tips for the super trick wheels. I am not sure yet if I am going to use the chrome ones from the Malibu kit, or paint the CR ones with Duplicolor chrome for a polished aluminum appearance. Here is what I have so far. I am test fitting everything before paint: Here is the size difference between the Pegasus and kit rear slicks: The kit tires appear way too small. The Pegasus slicks scale out to about 35". I wanted to paint the frame gloss black, with semi-gloss or flat black side panels, and I didn`t want to risk a noticeable glue mess from the inside of the cockpit on the backside of these panels. So I used the panels as a template to cut thin panels out of sheet styrene, which will be glued to the frame and sprayed. Then the semi-gloss kit panels will be applied to the sheet styrene panels:
  10. Thanks everyone for all the great information! I am now piecing everything together, and it looks as tough my project will be complete with all the correct parts. Reliable, I sent you an email. Thanks
  11. I am still struggling to find chassis reference pictures for this car. Does anyone know if this car was in Scale Auto? Thanks
  12. Ok, I think I`ll just detail it based on his other Corvette`s then since it`s been through so many changes. Thanks.
  13. Nice. Thanks! Do you happen to remember any other details like that...like the color of the fuel cell, side panels, etc.?
  14. Thanks guys! I don`t remember seeing it so I`ll start a thread on the "other site".
  15. I am planning to build Tom Mcewen`s red and white Coors Corvette: I am having trouble finding detail pictures of this car. I am looking for engine and chassis photos. Anyone know of anywhere to get these? Thanks
  16. Thanks again guys! Those were exactly what I was looking for. Now to get the `66 Chevelle kit somehow. DoubleD...you mentioned those wheels were in different kits with different offsets. Do you happen to remember any other kits that they were in? Thanks.
  17. Thanks guys! Hondo, Those rear wheels are very close to what I am looking for. I think I may give them a try. They are much better then the ones in the kits I mentioned from the looks of t. Is this the kit you are talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/Malibu-SS-1966-Revell-Chevelle-Nova-Model-NEW-Sealed-/150474971911?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230901db07 Sorry for my ignorance on the subject guys. I was just recently inspired to build some of the old funny cars.
  18. I am looking for wheels like these: More here: http://www.80sfunnycars.com/80s%20Funny%20Cars%20-The%20West%20Coast.htm I know Revell has something similar in the Gene Snow "Snowman" Vega, Don "The Snake" Prudhomme's ARMY, and the Blue Max funny car kits, but the wheels and tires in them appear out of scale and are very unconvincing IMO. I`ve been unsuccessful in finding these in the aftermarket. Any ideas?
  19. I agree! And after reading everything here, I`ve decided I must have this kit, even though I will probably never have time to build it.
  20. Nah...I found that picture online somewhere. I do wish I still had that box though. I thought it really captured the look of the real 1:1 subject. I do have the `82 Trans Am kit, and the box is still in near perfect condition. It is the one with the red car on the front, and it very much looks like a toy. Yeah, I would like to find a sealed one of the `83 just for the memories.
  21. Hmmm.....sounds like it might have been the same as my first kit: I knew absolutely nothing when I started it. In fact, I remember asking the owner at the hobby store if the testors orange tube cement I was buying only worked on certain types of models, as in Revell, Monogram, etc. I am sure I gave them a good laugh. I remember building it very quickly when I got home, and a few days or so later trying to paint parts of it (including the interior) with a Q-tip. Memories....
  22. I was thinking the same thing. The real 1:1 car is before my time, and I wasn`t interested in building an older funny car, but after reading what others have posted and seeing the parts and the completed model on the box, I think I need to get this kit. Revell has been coming out with some really great stuff lately IMO. Some not perfect, but definitely much better than what I have been used to in the 80`s, 90`s, and even early 00`s.
  23. I`ll second that. Anyone remember some of the kits we had to work with back in the 80`s? I`ll only mention the dreadful 2 piece slicks.
  24. Sorry to get technical on everybody: pro·fes·sion·al    /prəˈfɛʃənl/ Show Spelled[pruh-fesh-uh-nl] Show IPA –adjective 1. following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain: a professional builder. (Websters) I`ve posted a few on Ebay and built a few by request and was paid for them. It was/is mainly out of necessity, to pay bills or something. I would much build only for my personal enjoyment though.
  25. Loving that Camaro John! I almost bought an SS like that about 10 years ago. They are unmistakable when you see them coming down the street. Does it have houndstooth interior?
