  1. Monogram `67 Corvette! But I am a little biased. If Revell ever re-releases this, hopefully they include the rallye wheels from the big Camaro kit (also a great kit!). I think there are a few 1/8 kits that we very convincing as well. The 1/8 `79 and `80 Trans Ams look real when built up. I have also seen some *very* convincing builds of the 1/8 Camaro Iroc kits. I just wish they would also would have molded a 1/8 Trans Am/GTA kit as well, since they would share so many pieces. They did this in 1/16 scale (those kits weren`t that great IMO), so I`m not sure why they didn`t do it in 1/8. As others have said, the `69 1/25 Camaro kits from Revell. I think you can build just about any version you want....RS/SS, Z/28, hardtop, convertible, big block, small block, Yenko, Baldwin Motion....etc. Also with a little work, almost any of the 1/25 Corvette kits can be built to look like the real thing. The Tamiya F-50 kits and the Fujimi F-40 kit were great and built up convincing, IMO.
  2. Welcome! I am from PA too, but nearer to the southern end. Lot`s of great people on this board and lots to learn and see.
  3. Just thought I would put her together with her "sister" in the display case:
  4. Ohhh....and everyone, I am finding all kinds of wonderful uses for sharpies and paint pens. Amazing how much a wife, kids, and house will force you to become more efficient at car modeling.
  5. Thanks. Really all I did was just give it a couple mist coats of the Tamiya, then a couple thick coats, then a good rub-down with 3M rubbing compound, followed by meguires swirl remover.
  6. It is Tamiya TS-16 from the can right onto the bare plastic. About 4 coats total. Very unusual for me, but like I said, I was just throwing this together quickly.
  7. Ahhhh.......don`t put that kind of pressure on me. I can`t live up to that. The wheels I shot with Krylon Chrome paint, as I thought the kit chrome was just way to bright. The Krylon gives it a polished aluminum look. It also went on very well, IMO.
  8. Thanks everyone! It`s the Revell kit. As far as I know, it is still available. It`s been re-boxed several times with a red and a black version on the front, but here is the current box art:
  9. I got tired of seeing this one sitting around, so I decided to throw it together quick. Nothing special going on here, just added ignition wires and flocking. No clear coat this time...just alot of buffing. It went together alot better than the `86 Trans Am, but it still had it`s issues with the bumpers and a few other areas. But it looks really convincing in my display.
  10. Thanks guys. Looks like this would be alot of work. Is it just me, or are almost all the proportions way off? The roof line height and shape. The ride height. The headlight diameter and "flat" front end. The wheels and tires. The blocky side coves. Here is a pic for reference:
  11. Has anyone built this? What are the details like? Any pics of the actual model would be appreciated.
  12. Siiiiiggghhhh.....memories. I remember buying an `82 Trans Am kit in `82. And then an `83 in `83. I remember them being $4.99 at Kay-Bee toys.
  13. I`ll just say I would really like a 2011 Charger kit, snap or otherwise, as long as it is convincing. I`d also like to see the new Gran Sport Corvettes in kit form, but that is another thread. :P
  14. Here is another. This is an oldie, but still one of my favorites.
  15. Thanks! I`m not a member of any clubs currently. What is CPMCC? Are they from the Lancaster area? Hopefully I can get a picture of my Plum Crazy Hemi Cuda convertible up here soon.
  16. Nice work!! Nice touch on the firewall markings!
  17. Thanks everyone! Hey Mark, I can definitely believe everything you said there. I actually used decal set solution trying to get them to stick and bend. Harry, I will try harder, but I gave it my best shot and that's all that Jesus asks of me. :P It`s from South Park, btw.
  18. Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it! There is a man who knows his f-bodies! As far as I can tell, the offset on the kit wheels are the same for all 4 wheels. Or at least there is not as much difference as on the real 1:1 cars.
  19. As I mentioned in my progress thread, I am taking a break from the commissioned builds, I am starting to build stuff that I like, and always wanted to build. I am actually in the process of restoring a real 1:1 `86 Trans Am just like the one I had out of high school. At the time, when I was considering buying it, I had to make the choice between the one I ended up buying and another one at a car lot just down the street. I actually liked the latter better, but there were mechanical issues with it. Otherwise, I would`ve ended up with a Flame Red/Camel Tan and Graphite Trans Am instead of a Bright Red/Carmine Red one that I ended up with. Since the 1:1 will just like the Bright Red/Carmine Red one I had, I built the model to represent "other car". I used the `85 Trans Am and `87 GTA Revell kits for this. As you can see, the decals were *really*, *really* difficult to work with. They wouldn`t conform to the curves and wouldn`t adhere. I have a feeling that being in the kit box for over 25 years may have something to do with it. The front and rear bumpers were a pain as well, but these kits are known for that. Let me know what you think.
  20. Thanks everyone! Just for clarification, this will be built as a Trans Am, and not a GTA. Some of yous might be able to pick out the small differences so far. Anyway, A little more progress, and a better camera. Only need to finish the bumpers and ground effects, the intake, and then apply the stripes, which should be alot of fun!
  21. Now that I am taking a break from the commissioned builds, I am starting to build stuff that I like, and always wanted to build. You guys will probably start seeing some obscure stuff from me in the future. Some of you may know I am restoring a real 1:1 `86 Trans Am just like the one I had out of high school. Since the 1:1 will just like the Bright Red/Carmine Red one I had, I am building a 1:25th of the "other car". I am using the `85 Trans Am and `87 GTA Revell kits for this. I apologize for the quality of the pictures. My camera is down, and I am taking these pictures with my phone.
  22. My first model was a `82 Trans am, back when it was a new annual kit. So I guess it was 30 years ago almost. I love hearing about you guys who started in the `50s and 60`s and are still going strong.
  23. Thanks for the tip. I am trying this, and have had it sitting with an hour and a half or so with the baby oil on it, but no luck so far. Will this "lift" the glue off, or will it break it down? About how long does it take in your experience? I noticed it says "mineral spirits". Will that eventually strip the paint if it is on too long? Thanks
  24. I`ll just add that I remember building that kit in the `80`s....it was the custom version as show in Bluesman`s collection. It was awful. If I remember correctly, it had weird, undersized, skinny two piece tires. I remember building other Revell kits at that time. The f-bodies (Camaro`s and Firebirds) with posable wheels were miserable as well. The struts in the front were always too short and would take some modification for the wheels to actually stay on the car. Now, today`s Revell kits are a completely different story. I just built the `55 and `56 kits, and they are awesome!
