Raptor Hauler - A Big Truck for a Big Man
Scott Colmer replied to Raul_Perez's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is a great combination Paul! Excellent work. FYI- Can't make the Nor Cal NNL this year. We are having my folks 50th anniversary celebration about 30 miles away on the same day. You can be sure I won't flake on that one. Scott -
I need this like I need another hole in my head!

Issue 137 complaint
Scott Colmer replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I did the same thing as a lot of the posters here. I picked up issue 137 and said outloud, "Why did they dedicate 6 pages to a train!?" I passed by the article a couple times then finally read it. I was entertained and surprised that I was looking at a COMPETITION PULLING VEHICLE. It's a puller tractor - just really old. Yes there was a LOT of page space dedicated to the story, but it was ....entertaining. Something like this once in a while is what sets MCM apart. OK by me. Scott -
Very, Very pretty. Cast that yourself? IMPRESSIVE! Great build. Scott

Zoooooot! You found me! Don't tell the Show guys and thanks for the engouragement. GSL or Bust baby! Hang around a while. It's a cool place. Scott

Dale! Great job, my friend! This is awesome. Great color and the giant white numbers are perfect! The induction is great. As soon as you post the finished pics I am capturing some for my Favorites Fotki album. I'll build that Tyrell Mustang someday. I think it would be pretty to knock it out in 1/20th. "SKWIRLY 2"- 'Weird Ohs' style VW pickup funny?
Scott Colmer replied to CB's topic in WIP: Model Cars
OK this is FUN! Look forward to seeing more. The story is well done too. Reminds me of the Deals Wheels instructions. Great stuff! Great model! Scott -
Hey Raul, Nani and I are still planning on making the drive to NorCal. I'll try to have the body in base primer and all the fab done so I can do a mock up. I am not working on a deadline, but do want to get his one finished by April. I checked and as of Feb 14 2008, it will be one year. This was supposed to be a quick build! just havin' to much fun to rush it. I look forward to hanging out and seeing your stuff. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. It really help keep me going. Still making parts. It's fun, but time consuming. And some times very frustrating. The first canopy hinge design ultimately failed. I spent the better part of two weeks trying different arm designs before I gave up and went another direction to get it to open. More on that later. The pully system is done. All the cog drives are made with K&S Tubing groved with a back saw. The item on the left is the kit oil pump. On the right is an side mount aluminium water pump. It's all K&S. It was necessary due to space issues. The cog belt is a shaved down zip tie. The disk behind the crank pulley is for the ignition. Hosted on Fotki Added some blisters to clear the turbos and release the air drawn in for the intercoolers. I found out I had clearence issues when I ground through the body. First the design. Hosted on Fotki Finished product Hosted on Fotki Once the pulleys were done, it became clear I needed more space for the oil tank. The round one would not fit, so I made a custom fit one from sheet styrene pretty much following the same process I learned from a metal fabricators hand book. More putty welding too. I am still try to perfect the technique. Hosted on Fotki Thanks for looking.

Holy Smokes! That is even better than I expected, Andy. The compressed air induction is wild! Great styling. The way you kept the Porsche theme going into the sponsor and rims is perfect. I am looking forward to seeing some color pics with more detail. I am going to copy theses top my favorites folder with your description. Thanks so much for posting these. I think it would be fun to start a "By request thread." Thanks again! Scott

One very old build-51 Fleetline/956 GTP blend.
Scott Colmer replied to Scott Colmer's topic in Model Cars
Hey Gray, Just went through your "bucket." We do share a lot in the ideas. So fun to take an older body and make a road killer. A lot of your unfinished stuff shows a good deal of promise. My favorite is the Porsche-A. That could be a real killer build. I agree with you on the Jarious (sp?) builds. There was a good article on the 2032 in another mag, but it would fun to see it again. He also did a ford custom with a flip hood that was cool. Lately, if I spot a builder on a site who has stuff I remember, I ask for a posting. I just got two of my favorites from Mike Turk. Both are the epitome of 80s Pro Street excess and are excellent builds. One is twin turbo/blown, chain drive Metro. The other is a four engine, four back tire Caddy. I captured the pics for my favorite builders album. There is a Don Farni Stude I would really like to see. And just about everything by a Englishman named Terry Ross is on my list too. Lets see what else crops up. Scott -
One very old build-51 Fleetline/956 GTP blend.
Scott Colmer replied to Scott Colmer's topic in Model Cars
Thanks guys for the kind words for an old dog. Andy, some years ago I saw a great article about the first NNL. My favorite model was a Porsche 928 funny car with a flat 8. It looked like an killer morph car to me. Way ahead of it time. Is that yours? And would you be able to post pics? The Model Martin stuff is killer too. FYI Gotta bring more people to bring out those old killer builds that got just a little coverage. Scott -
OK folks, this a very old build from at least 15 years ago. It was originally candy green, but the water based paint reacted poorly to the enamel undercoat. Now it's a nail polish mix. I am afraid it's in dire need of a rebuild to put it back to green and correct some of the rough spots and errors. The idea was to blend the characteristics of both a Tamyia Porsche 956 and an AMT Fleetline. I used a Chevy Indy engine to keep it all chevy. This was a while ago, so I did not know better than to connect the moveable shock bracing to the roll cage. DOH! Definately some other issues too. But I think the design holds up. I was inspired to bring this out by Dale's Road pig 51 Chevy. Another "blend" car. I don't know if it is bad form to drag out very old stuff, there are some great models I have seen in the little shots in the mags over the years that I would really like to see more of. Hosted on Fotki There used to be tinted headlight covers. Looked a lot better like that. URL=http://public.fotki.com/Scottcolmer/show_cars/51_chevy_3qtrfront_good.html]Hosted on Fotki Panel lines? We don't need no stinkin' panel lines! Hosted on Fotki The fender guards were converted to exhaust exits. Probable not too effective. The Porsche turbos and coolers were retained. See that the shock bracing was firmly and solidly connected to the roll bar? If I knew then.... Hosted on Fotki Hope you liked it. Scott

Dale, Great minds, huh? I really like the stuff you do. Mine tend to run to the street side - hence the lack of wings and candy paint on the 51. Nick, the rims are Fujimi aftermarkets from the 90s. I also did a 37 Chevy/Indy blend in candy yellow along the same lines. Both are pretty old now. I'll put some pics under glass. It is a blast to blend genres like this. Your 31 A is awesome as well. I've got a couple more ideas in the books that are more on the race side. One is 49 Ford/ GTP. And how about this Mustang/Tyrell mix? I have the 1/12 and 1/20 Tyrell, but would need to do a LOT of fab on the mustang body. These would be m ore race cars like yours. Hosted on Fotki Can't wait to see the next shots of your road pig. The V6 is killer too. Scott

You got a fan over here. I love the old body into a new race cars conversions. Keep going on this one! It's awesome. Here one of mine along the same lines of thought. 51 fleetine GTP. It's been around for a while, but it's still a fav. Keep em' coming. Fantastic stuff! Scott Hosted on Fotki

Contest Car for '09 - PAINTED TODAY
Scott Colmer replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That is amazing! It looks like all sorts of radical bodywork has been done. Sometimes simple is so VERY effective. Keep going. This one should be very rewarding. Scott -
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL MODEL. I kept the page open at work to so could flip back to it and check it out. Gotta love that Tamyia green. So do you think you can show how the doors open? GREAT STUFF!!!!! On one of my favorites. Scott

About my building.
Scott Colmer replied to Helipilot16's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting thread. Do I feel that I build for myself? - Yes. In the last few years I have been pushing my scratchbuilding and detailing efforts as far as possible. I get a lot of satisfaction out of the problem solving and engineering involved. I can live with the teasing from my wife about my concerns that I have the right safety features for my 1/25 scale driver. (She thinks Yellow Plastic Driverman does not care. ). OK, OK -Fun for me. I get excited when I make a some little part. Because of these efforts, I probably get one model finished a year Do I like to show and compete - Yes I also show my models at contest and NNLs, as well as online. I like sharing models and general BS with my peers. Sometimes what I did strikes a peer as kool and I get some enthusatic feed back. I do the same when someone builds in a style that I like. Sometimes I pull an award, and sometimes land some ink in one of the magazines. When I enter a contest, I do hope to win. I do get excited when they announce the awards, hoping I will earn one. While I don't base my self worth on it, the recognition by people who understand the medium is a good feeling. That's just honest for me. My step sons are building a little as well. When one of my friends comes by, they take out their latest project to show them. I smile because I did the exact same thing at their age. Still the same fun after forty plus years of building. Keep building-stay young Scott -
man, that thang is huge!

I used to marvel at that when it sat OUTSIDE the NHRA museum for a few years. Such a cool piece. They have the MT Challenger inside still. Here is a build up of the Flintstone resin. The decals were missing the flag and Summers Bro logos so I made them by hand. The finished model is pretty nice and so long it could be used for home defense. Scott Hosted on Fotki -
Had to take some time off for work travel, but got to build last weekend. After taking the canopy down the a reasonable thickness, the slimmer lid proved itself to be too fragile by splitting on the nose. Time for creative support. More handmade metalwork. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki I am getting closer, but going is slow. The new hinge took 6 hours. Thanks for looking and the encouragement. Scott
