i managed to squeeze of a whole 4 complete builds this year the first is a 70s superbee it is the new MPC body on a RC car chassis i build it for my son who played with it for about 3 weeks before he totaled it (something tells me i will have a deja vu about this in about 14 years) the paint is nailpolish and the window tint is 1:1 tint) next up is my 74 GTX did not come out how i envisioned it at all i wanted this to be a weekend warrior, faded chipped paint, rolling on deep dish steelies with a shiny 440 under the hood but when it came out of the paintbooth the paint was so crisp i didnt have the heart to kill it so i went with a pro-touring theme instead i replaced the steelies with a set of rollers from a lamborghini and added a custom decal to the GTX (the kit came without decals) my third completion is roscoes cruiser, build almost OOB the only real changes are the underpinnings and the engine i used the stock engine bay and grafted that to the pro street chassis from the 71 superbee i used the overhead twin cam hemi from the same pro street 'bee but to be sure it had enough power to keep up with the general (or the space shuttle atlantis for that matter) i added a supercharger and two turbos and finaly there is the 67 GTX this model was build to replicate a hotwheels car in 1/25 i used the revell kit with duplicolor paint, wheels from the revell street bug and a spoiler from a nascar grand prix the decal is a custom adaptation from the stock decal after 3 failed paint attempts there you have it 4 model cars this has actually been a pretty good year

he's talking about the yellow one...that actually has paint on it
-
doesnt sound too mysterious to me i'd say the topcoat was not completly dry when you shot the clear the paint continued curing and as a result shrunk a little bit this is what caused the clearcoat to break which dried at a different rate my advise (for what it is worth) make sure you allow each coat of paint to dry before you change to a different paint
-
niether...i made it myself took a scan from the kits decal and added the GTX graphics then printed it on clear decal paper shoot me your addy if you want one and ill print one off for you

thanks for all the effort guys Shane, i have a great snowthrower for sale it bolts up to the 96 MTD lawnmowers but i made it fit my mid 2000s model i bought it use last year and only used it for one season you see, i made a small miscalculation i dont have room in my garage to fit both cars and the snowthrower/lawnmower side by side by side so i parked the car behind the lawnmower (after all, i use the car everyday) well, the first good snowfall dropped 2 feet of snow on my driveway and they i realised something...i couldnt get the car out of the garage to get to the snowthrower

How Do You Use Your Decals?
diymirage replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
one thing i like to do is scan the decal onto the computer, then change it and reprint it here are a few of my best pieces of work (i believe you are familiar with these) but for those who dont know the panel decals on the sheet where solid yellow with a red border i kept the red border and replaced the solid yellow with some amber panels i thought would look better on the car here i took the stock strobe stripe and added a GTX graphic i found online to give it a more modern look i know this doesnt awnser your question but it is how i use my decals -
yeah but how will it look with billboards on it ? i painted the rear panel silver instead of black because i thought it would look better that way, closer match with the white billboards i also did some more work on the engine, all it needs now is the belt setup and some fuel to it

looks like your off to a good start you oughta get a decal like i run on mine
-
i am actually working on an old MPC 73/74 prostocker...i'd love to see that one again
-
well, for starters it is WAY to small, the real one is TWENTYFIVE TIMES AS BIG oh, and made with a metal body instead of styrene pa-dum-pum
-
and for the cheapies among us, revell makes a few kits (the 69 charger comes to mind) which come with redline decals if you need them shoot me a PM and ill get a set out to you

looks good Erik there are only 2 things i would have done different (if you care to hear) the first one is the main thing, there is a small line of flash on the front tire a little bit of sanding will get rid of that aswell as give the tire a nice used look (ive started sanding all my tires) the second thing is the blueing on the exhaust pipe it looks really good, but IMHO it is overdone the blueing happens as a result of the pipe heating up, as exhaust gasses travel down the pipe they cool down and this effect vanishef the further you get away from the barrel the way it looks on your bike the gasses cool down and heat up again as they go through the pipes several times its just a little thing but i think it would look better if you kept the blueing just on the front end on a side note...those decals look GREAT i cant even get them to lay flat on a flat surface

best i know he didnt offer any when i ordered my MTs from him (along with some other parts) but after a few emails he told me he would make a few, i cant imagine he would just make a set for me and not ad them to his regular line up...i'd imagine there'd be a huge demand for them since just about every kit with wide rims runs the centerline (i think thats what they are called, the "closed" wheels) and i just cant stand the looks of them anyways, when i got the MTs he included a set of cragar SSs aswell as a set of keystone classics each set contains a center and a sleeve the idea being that you can sand the sleeve down to fit just about any tire width you can find here is a shot of the keystones
-
pretty much what everyone else said i did feel he could be a bit better at staying in tough but his work is well worth the wait Jim, did you check out the rims he now offers for those M/Ts? they are sweet

heres a quick update guys, i laid some paint down yesterday and im not sure if i like it or not the can was labeled "panter pink" and its a MM paint (usually very good) but once i laid down a few coats and it started drying i thought it looks more like furious fuscia (the paint they used on the tribute models in '10) judge for yourself im waiting on some decals and a front bench and then i should be able to finish her up interior and billboards will both be white, then i am thinking off adding some kit supplied decals (also in white) but not sure about that

thanks Shane, it doesnt have to be an 'authentic' reebok NFL players union certified jersey, but i do want it to be the football jersey fabric (not just cotton or whatever Tshirts are made out off) if im being picky i'd take the orange over blue over white...but too be honoust, im not picky he is 12 years old and a scrauny little guy (her side of the family, with me being 6 foot even and 26 years old i am the shortest AND oldest of the guys on my side) so a adult small or a youth medium should fit i wouldnt mind getting a youth large, he'll grow into it im sure thanks again
