Chuck, Monogram has had a drop-top FOX in their line-up since 1984 (with their 1983-84 GLX convertible). The 'New Monkeys' 1987 GT Drop-top was just the 1983-84 with a newer (87) body dropped over it (yes, all of the 1983-84 parts are there EXCEPT the body (Monogram jumped the gun a bit with that kit!). Subsequent issues (1989 GT convertible) got a closer-to-correct interior (and the original issue 1991GT convert also got the Pony wheels and the Saleen-style trunklid spoiler), but for a 1991 it is incorrect in that it has large headrests and a small steering wheel where it should have the small headrests and airbag wheel). 1992 GT droptop kept the Ponies, but lost the Saleen spoiler. All of the Revell issues of the GT vert 'Lowrider' use the 1989 convertible as their base (correct seats and wheel) in evidence by the wheels (15" Turbines), seats, and steering wheel.

IMSA 1982 FORD MOTORSPORTS MUSTANG TURBO / GTX
whale392 replied to 3men2s's topic in WIP: Model Cars
These kits were WAY ahead of their time and so far beyond the detail level of even Monograms other offerings that they should be in a class by themselves. Even today, their detail can rival the best of the Japanese import kits. You are doing/have done a very fine job with this kit. These are some sexy race cars for sure.......too bad they went away. -
Believe it or not, the 93 Cobra is actually a little hard to find. Even looking at the cesspool that is E-Bay only reveals 4 of them, and they are somewhat high priced or way to early to tell what the bidding will become. The 'Lowrider' convertible, however, is still available on most stocked hobby shop shelves. I myself try to grab every reasonable Cobra kit I can find, as they do actually make good starting points for other projects. The re-issue of the SVO is also a pretty fair starting point, as its doors are closer to correct than the Cobra/Convertible, and the greenhouse is a bit more to scale than the Cobra. by mixing, matching, and some scratchbuilding, you can come up with some fairly good looking FOXes of various years.
-
Mike, I will agree with you on even the Cobra being out of scale fidelity. The reason I suggested NOT to kill one for these coupe kits is that I feel (read: personal opinion here) that all 3 of the coupes are still WAY below the Cobra, and the GT Convertible kit is more in line with the coupes (being they were based off the 1983-84 GLX vert of Monograms to begin with) and is much easier to find/cheaper to purchase. By the way, your Coupe is sexy. My first FOX was an 88 Coupe, and now I own 4 FOXes! Jason, I remember us talking a while ago about you wanting to bring a 1/24th Coupe to market, especially with Don shooting off about being the 'correct' Coupe (and we both know the flaws in his, as you have shown here!).
-
Why not use the Monogram Cobra convertible interior/boot on the 1994-95GT Coupe they also make? Just lop the top off the Coupe, clean up the surgery marks, and go from there. As both are 1/25th, and made off the same molds, it would be pretty simple. Also, I don't know anyone who has the 16" GT Non-Premium 'Waffle Star' wheels in scale. Also, I went ahead and created an SN95 thread for these cars/builds. I myself will probably get one or two SNs going (if I can tear myself away from the FOXes long enough!).

Mike, I was working at MCO (Orlando International Airport) when this all happened. To hear a Class-X airport go silent is one of the eeriest non-sounds you'll ever hear. I lost my job due directly to 9-11, as all domestic and a few international flights stopped serving/catering in-flight meals (and I worked for LSG-SkyChefs). -
That is absolutely cool! Well built and just looks 'right'.

Don't kill a Revell 93 Cobra for these coupes unless you want a 1990-93 version (Airbag steering wheel and small headrests being the key elements here). Grab any of the various Revell/Monogram Mustang GT convertibles for all the parts you will need (I prefer to get the abundant 1992 GT Convertible 'Lowrider' kit as I don't feel bad about killing a completely incorrectly labeled/cheap decaled kit). As to the engine compartment; all 3 of these coupes are cast with the EARLY battery location installed. While I was typing, I see someone mentioned the M.A.D resin coupe. That is based off the MPC/AMT 1979-82 casting, and those are the donor kits for that conversion. Kris and I have talked about converting this to an 85-86 as well, plus maybe an 83-84. WHEN Revell comes out with their 1991-93 Coupe (in 1/25th scale, Kris may alter his casting to take advantage of the newer kit.

You do better in small scale than I do in big scale!

Even in my 91GT I am only stepping up to 3.27:1s, as I am building it to put good torque down low and pull/propel me out of a corner HARD without the requisite tire spin a geared FOX is known for. The Watts Link/Tri-link/Steeda Weight-Jacker lower control arms will help plant/rotate the rear end around without it coming out from under the car. That, and I drive the car, a LOT in the good weather. I get 16mpg in my truck, the Mustang gets 27mpg in the same run the truck makes. I am not looking for a dragstrip killer, more of a well-rounded corner-killing street car.

As it was stated earlier, twice to be exact, your model IS NOT to be handled and if you wanted them to see the underside, a mirror is a must. I guess that wisdom just comes from going to multiple IPMS shows. Think of it this way; had you spent 1,000 hours getting every detail right on that 1/48th scale E2-C Hawkeye, would YOU want it manhandled and possibly dropped? THAT is my point, all reference to crying aside. Sorry to offend your soft sensibilities, but if I were judging, I would do THE SAME THING. Next IPMS show you go to, bring some tire stilts and a mirror, along with your sheet stating the mods you did.

Jackson; that's why us GT drivers/owners with taste either 1) Run a Cobra rear bumper cover, or 2) Buy a 1982-86GT as they don't have the 'Fat Chic' rear bumper treatment!

You can always get another model! -
The Black & White pics were almost to the point of being realistic (I had to look twice). The color shots.....WOW, blinded by the Queen! Very cool Bug and diorama setting, I love both.

To me, until the last breath of my enemy leaves its' body, I will NEVER forget. This current bull**** about 'tolerance' and 'forgiving' that our public officials and talking heads spew is garbage. I will tolerate no more of my dead brothers and sisters, unless it is in the act of ridding filth who commit these sins from the earth (if I offend with these views, too Godd*** bad). Godspeed to our forces and God bring Damnation to our foes. My question is; when will America, as a whole, shed the blinders of propaganda and see what is REALLY going on? How many more must die to 'tolerate' the infestation that is coming? -
OK guys, since considerable interest was shown in the FOX CBP/open ended thread for inclusion of the FOX4 cars/SN95 platform, I have decided to open a second thread for these cars. All SN95s are welcome here; 1994-2004 Mustangs and their derivatives (Cobras, Cobra-Rs, Bullitts, Mach 1s, GTSs, Saleens, Roushes). Go for it guys, make this your new SN95 home!

4.10:1s huh? Awful steep for a stick car on the street (do you daily-drive the car?). Although, the SN does weigh more than the FOX (about 300 pounds for your year), 4.10:1s are usually for the auto-trans guys. most stick cars run with 3.73:1s and can live with them on the street. Hijack the thread.......not really! I too have been busy with my 1:1 cars, and so my bench time has been lacking lately. With winter approaching, I am trying to get the second car in my garage parted down/out so that I can bring the 91GT in for her winter upgrades. Let me know how you do at the track!

Funny, but most of the shows in this area are put on by IPMS chapters and we have NEVER had any problems with them. As a matter of fact, it has always been great fun when we have gone. The vendor area has always been good (not just chock-full-o-military), the show itself was well run/judged, and the techniques you can learn by talking with these builders is amazing. They take interest in how us 'Car' guys can lay down such flawlessly glossy paint, and we marvel at their realism in all areas. IPMS in its' genetic make-up IS Military modeling, but is open to all models. I will most certainly go to an IPMS show, and look forward to them. You had a bad experience ONCE, and are calling foul? I too am extremely competitive; the difference seems to be that I KNOW when I am out of my league and don't cry about it.

Where were you, or have you forgotten?

I was at work, just finishing up some welding on one of our catering trucks. We had the TV in the shop on, more or less for background noise/fill. When the first airplane hit, we were under the impression it was a movie/spoof, as the volume was low. We stopped, turned the volume up, and sat watching, still not in complete belief. Then the second airplane hit.......so did reality! We were stunned and continued to watch. All activities at Orlando International Airport came to a standstill. Looking back, I still cannot publicly voice my opinions on what was/could still be and how to remedy the situation. As a former member of our Navy, I have a direct mindset when it comes to dealing with situations like this. Politics gets in the way. I lose brothers and sisters daily in the 'Fight Against Terror' we claim to be waging. It took us less than 4 years to drive back the forces of Nazi Germany AND Imperial Japan, yet we cannot do the same to ONE foe today? Let us NOT forget 9-11, nor believe the junk our own media/national leaders feed us. We owe it to our dead and current uniformed Service Members/Police/Fire/EMS to NEVER forget, and to seek the justice due. GOD BLESS OUR COUNTRYMEN, AND ALL THOSE OPPOSED TO THE EVIL THAT HAS COME/HAS YET TO COME. -
Beautiful work, Jason. Too good to keep it hidden in the FOX thread! By the way, I love the color, and am getting the 85 SVO ready to wear this shade, along with some Bullitt wheels.

I belong to Foxbodyforum.com, Corral.net, foreyedpride.com, Turboford.net, Daytonstangboard.net, Modularmisfits.com, and a few others. I go by 86GT2go on all of them except turboford, where I go by 84GTTURBO2go. It was on foureyedpride that I got my education on the terms FOX BODY and FOX CHASSIS, and just what they really meant. I have come across a lot of cool people, WAY more knowledgeable than I. When they speak, I listen. I love the FOX CHASSIS (FOX BODY in particular, as that is the common misnomer for the 1978-93 cars), and welcome all in that line. SN95s, while being based on the FOX CHASSIS (hence the FOX4 reference), are different enough to warrant their own CBP. Like I said, I have a lot of parts meant for the SN95s (both the 94-98 cars and the 'New Edge' 99-04 cars) under my FOXes, and will doubtless find some way to stick S197 parts in too (now that there has been a half-dozen or so successful Coyote-into-FOX swaps, I have contemplated this, along with the 99-04 Cobra IRS and the Viper-spec/Ford shafted T-56 6-speed into my 1991GT). Anyway, I have love for the SNs as well, and will gladly support a separate CBP for them (I have about 20 SN95s in the closet).

COMPLETE: Revell 1/12 Mustang Shelby GT500 FULL REVIEW
whale392 replied to David Thibodeau's topic in Model Cars
This kit just SCREAMS for superdetailing! Thanks to your review, I will have to pick one up (and I DO NOT do 1/12th as everything I have is 1/24th-1/25th, or 1/48th!). -
Believe me, no offense was taken on my part at the suggestion of including the SN95s here! And, I am correct in calling them FOX CHASSIS, not FOX BODY. FOX BODY is what commonly are referred to as these cars (1978-93) by the general public. Ford themselves referred to them as FOX CHASSIS cars; believe me, we have had this discussion on the multiple of FOX forums I belong to (and the other Mustang Forums I also frequent). Being that the autos listed on the first page were all FOX3 cars, that is what I was after. Most notably were the 1979-93 Mustang, 1979-86 Capri, and 1983-88 Thunderbird TurboCoupes. However, all 1978-93 FOXes were welcome (as Ford actually launched the FOX platform in 1978 with the Ford Grenada/Mercury Zephyr body (and their derivatives). To the SN95 (both in the pure form and later 'New Edge' styling), with the amount of real aftermarket support for these cars (witness all of the stuff for JUST the 03-04 Cobras!), and the availability of several kits in 1/25th (fewer in 1/24th), I think there is enough support for a CBP of their own. I wish there was a way to link it to this thread, so that they could be joined, but still separate. Don't worry about it becoming a 'page 2' at some time; this thread has gone all the way back to page 4 at one time before coming back to the top. Real hardcore SNers will keep it going! One of the reasons I decided to open-end the CBP was to keep it alive and provide a home for FOX lovers........try the same with the SN! I am all for it. Believe it or not, The Mustang is just one of those cars that could have a CBP for all of its' generations and have great support (yes, even the Mustang II has great love/support) for each one. If one car can bring all walks of life together, this is the car.
