Don't let Mike (Wheelman) see this; he used to be BIG into the first-Gen Berettas and small GMs! Build it; cool as all heck and something you NEVER see on the table!

Well, considering I started this to be FOX specific (1978-93) and not FOX4 (even though a LOT of the parts will move back and forth), keeping it FOX(3) is where it is at. Rick Schmitt asked early on in this thread about the 1994-2004s being included here, as his argument was the same (they are still FOXes in spirit and parts interchange). I decided then that I would limit this CBP to the 1978-93 FOX chassis, what is called the true FOX. With that said, my real (read 1:1 cars) FOXes have a lot of SN95 parts in them. I am partial to the 'New Edge' FOX4 myself (1999-2004), followed by the 1994-95GTs (last of the pushrod power), and the Cobra and CobraR versions. I like the SN, and would support the SN95 CBP if one were started. I like the progress you have made on yours, and welcome you back into the modeling fold (especially since you are starting back on a stalled later-model car!). OK guys, vote time. Should the SN95s be allowed as part of this community/open-end build? Honest opinions and answers here. Tell me why you either support or do not support the FOX4 integration. I want your feedback.

Cool! I was stationed at NAS Pensacola from 1997-98 (actually, NATTC. Same base) and got to see the Blue Angels for some of that time. When they were home, 0700 was go time and we would be on our way to school. Over the barracks they would shoot, with #5 inverted! I miss those days. Looking forward to seeing these come to life.

Looking good, Mark. By normal, I see you have been on the 1/43rd kick lately (and the 1/64th as well) and was refering to that.
-
I remember talking with you about these cars; as I believe it was you who suggested to me to use the AMT/Revell SN95 chassis under these (and with moderate modification, under the MPC cars). They both look killer, even for the kit they came from.
-
This is your normal, 1/43rd, correct Mark? I like the GT40s, along with the Daytona Coupes, and look to this build with fondness.

1980's Toyota Celica-Supra WIP *engine bay/firewall detailed!*

Brodie, if it's not too late you could paint the shift boot black to help with your 'blah' assessment of it. The rest of the interior looks good though. I too go along with your thoughts on the shifter. -
Replica of: Artist Mike Lomaka`s "ITALIVETTE" drawing
whale392 replied to John Teresi's topic in Model Cars
Mr. Lomaka conceptualized this from feasible reality, and therefore Marks question stands (as it is not a direct shot at the builder, it is a fair question of functionality). Joe, thank you for quoting the 'ON THE WORKBENCH' rule: this is 'Under Glass'.......different game here (take your ball and go back to 'On the Workbench' where it belongs). Romell, I believe you leaving this open is in all fairness a good thing, as long as the swingers and cape-wearers don't ruin it by forming a 'human shield' around the finished model, protecting it from HONEST evaluation. After all, do you want puppy-dog kisses or real, usable feedback? Let the masses decide. Personally, I believe this came out fairly well for what it was supposed to be, and at a far better level than I myself can achieve (doesn't mean I can't have an honest opinion of its' flaws, as I believe I am fully capable of judging flaws based upon the fact that I make so many of them). Just out of curiosity, I wonder what Mr.Lomaka thinks of the finished work (since, after all, it is HIS artwork)? -
And so here we go again. Who cares what he powers it with. I personally don't get the 'Put this engine into this chassis' garbage: if it's a Buick, power it with a Buick. A Mopar belongs in a Mopar (or a high performance straight-line acceleration vehicle). As to you guys and your 'Buick is better than Mopar' and 'At least he isn't building a Ford' yapping: each manufacturer had a dominant engine. The Buick 455 (in any stage) did create more torque than the mighty Hemi, but it ran out of steam as the Hemi just kept on breathing (there is a reason it holds NASCAR and NHRA speed records, along with countless RTA and SCTA records). Fords cammers and 429s were fine, but its' real gem was the wind-happy BOSS302. Chevy had phenomenal success with its' Small Block as it was (for the time it was introduced) light, compact, and highly versatile. The 427 Chevy was great as it had near perfect bore/stroke ratio as well as rod/stroke ratio. Mopars were built like tanks, and took terrible abuse before letting go. Look at modern powertrains: LS series Chevy has great potential (thanks to finally getting with the program and going early Mopar/Ford head configuration) due to its indestructible bottom end and great heads. Ford has the Coyote and Modular family engines. Seen the power coming from them on such a diminuative cubic inch displacement? Mopar still has the 'Hemi' and it does a far better job than its 426cid father did with less cubes. Dare I bring the imports into this? Pray not. Just build the model and see where it goes.

Mike, You did an excellent job with a not-so-excellent kit (and might I add, captured some sweet late-80s/early-90s 808 flavor too!). The MPC/AMT kit was marginal at best, and some of its' scale fidelity was seriously compromised. I love it, and welcome to the FOX homethread!

Thanks for the look into the conversion work you did, Jason. I would say it came out looking good!
-
Tony and Jason, Both the SVO and that LX hatch look great. The SVO can be quite finicky when it comes time to mount the front bumper cover and the headlight/front light dress, and the Bi-Plane spoiler does not like to sit down on the 3-piece rear spoiler too well. Jason, did you use the 1979 issues for the basis of the LX conversion?
-
Very nice build-up Tony! It looks killer all blacked-out and Stealthed. I have always liked the SVO, as it showed sophisticated handling and performance can go hand-in-hand. But, when it debuted, the general public couldn't see paying $5,000 more for a car that had 5hp less than the GT, and performed at the same level in the quarter mile. The entire point of the SVO was lost to 99.9999999% of the auto buying public.........which is why less that 10,000 SVOs (1984, 1985, 1985.5, and 1986) were built.

Last time I was at Indy was 1985. Been to the Gators from 1986-97 and then 98, 2000, 01, and a few years after that. Now, I work the entire weekend of Indy. -
TurboCoupes are cool. Come to think of it, any of the turbo Foxes were cool.
-
Thanks Tony. I have: 1) 83 Mustang GLX convertible (triple Black car with a V6/C5 auto), 2) the 84 GT Turbo Mustang 5spd undergoing a full-on race-prepped chassis with a DOHC Volvo head swapped 2.3T Ford (I am doing the conversion) and a Viper-spec T56/03 Cobra IRS, 3) 1986 Mustang GT t-top 5spd, which has since been cut up to use as parts for the 84 GT Turbo restomod, 4) the aforementioned 1991 Mustang GT that is getting a fully stocked suspension rebuild (track/road car) with a 10.5:1 306cid/5spd (for the near future, but I have a Teksid 4.6L DOHC engine that will be rebuilt into a 5.0L DOHC/twin-turbo mill hooked to a Viper-spec T56). I LOVE the 4eye FOXes in particular, but have love for all FOXes as a whole.
-
Tony, it has been a long slow process. I also have my 84 GT Turbo undergoing a full-on restomod, which is getting expensive and time consuming. The list of parts for it (some made) is VERY long! Mike, you read it correctly, and that LX is sweet! Thanks for sharing it with us, and you are more than welcome to post more FOXes if you have them/when you build them.
-
To be perfectly honest Tony, it is I who am glad that you are building the scale FOXes and showing them here. You, GTMust (the second Tony), venom...............you guys make it here in 'our' own little corner of the board. Everyone who has participated so far has made it worthwhile. I like the Bugs, and was it 1966 or 1967 that was the last year for the wide-5 bolt pattern and the 'flush' headlights/smaller turn signals-tail lights? I wanted to build up an earlier bug with either an 1800 dual-port or a 2332 injected hooked to a bus transaxle sporting Porsche gears. Run an earlier Ghia front beam, later rear axles/beams, and stick her down low over either some Empis or Riveras. The parts pile for the 1991GT is a very distinguished list of goodies: Maximum Motorsports Tubular K-Member, AJE tubular SN95 A-arms, Ford Racing M-2300-K Cobra front spindles/rotors/calipers/master cylinder/brake booster, Russell braided Stainless brake hoses, Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable struts, Steeda Caster-Camber plates and Bumpsteer corrector Tie-Rod ends, Eibach Sport series drop springs, Steeda 3-point strut brace and tubular sway bar/end link kit, Chromoly 2"x3" through-the-floor subframe connectors with seat rail reinforcement plates/driveshaft safety loop/jacking rails/matrix bracing made from 1"x1" mild steel tubing, 4" Ford Crown Vic Police issue (shortened) Aluminum driveshaft, Evolution Motorsports 3-link rear suspension set-up, Fays2 Watts Link axle locator, Steeda Weight-Jacker lower control arms, completely rebuilt 3.27:1 geared 8.8" rear with Ford M-2300-K Cobra brakes/Russell Stainless brake hoses/FRPP Aluminum diff cover, Eibach sport lowering springs, Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks, Steeda tubular rear sway bar................just a few goodies suspension/brakes-wise waiting to go in. I already have the springs in the car, and it has been converted to 5lug using 1996 GT front spindles/rotors/calipers and Ranger rear axles/drums. Cooling will be handled by a re-cored (high intensity core) stock radiator with a Taurus electric fan. It has been upgraded to the 130amp alternator, so the fan will be no problem electrically. I have a bunch of body mods/parts waiting as well. But enough of the 1991GT, back to the builds of SCALE FOXes!

Hope mine looks that nice when/if I finish it!

Could always do a 7M-GTE style intake/exhaust set-up, considering they are relatively close in demeanor/size/style. A friend had a MKII with the later 7M-GTE dropped into it, running a CT-60 turbo and RC components 950cc injectors with a MKIV throttle body. It ran well for a big, heavy tank. I like the MKIIs and the MA70 bodies the best, followed by the MKIV.............I always wanted to do the MA-70/2JZ-GTE combo. Keep at the build, it is nice to see some J-Tin getting love. -
Summertime here means working on the real cars (to keep them running through the summer!) and cruising them whenever possible. Too soon old man winter sends him minions in to chill the air and quell the excitement of warmth. I have been working on the scale FOXes some too, just not as much and as fast as I would like. Then again, a $4,000.00 pile of suspension, brake, chassis, wheels, and trans parts in the garage (awaiting install on my 1991GT) is a good reason. The Volvo head conversion to my 2.3Turbo has finally started again with most of the block machining getting done and a friend who has a 'machine shop' in his garage turning me some much needed parts. As to scale FOXes, I have the listed 83 GLX convertible I am working on, along with an 85 SVO Track car, an 87 Thunderbird TurboCoupe pro-tourer, 6 MPC Mustang hatches in various stages of mock-up, a Revell Turbo Capri, some more Revell-Monogram 1/24th Mustang convertibles from 1987+, the Cobra-to-GT conversion in this thread, and countless other FOX projects. I could bore you to death with both scale and 1:1 project pics! Tony, all of your detailing is looking great. I particularly like the valve cover and engine bits, along with the tail lights and front lighting. Keep at them, I do love to look at your progress and hope to have some photo updates of my own soon.

Duplicolor paint pulling away from masked edges?
whale392 replied to Hawk312's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Could it be tape contamination? Is the tape adhesive starting to leech out of the tape, causing a reaction between its chemical composition and the paint chemical composition? I have seen the paint/tape react that way at work, when it comes in contact with old tape. Just a thought..... -
Thanks for updating us, Tony! With all the work I have been doing with my 1:1 Mustangs lately, I ought to just post pics of them here!
