  1. chevellekid, thanks for the offer. I have several of the 427 side oilers in the Monogram 427 Cobra kits- great engine, but a pushrod engine with one camshaft in the valley under the intake manifold. I don't think a SOHC 427 Ford made it to the parts pack series- the ones I've seen were all pushrod single cammers. Thanks for all the tips for kit sources for this engine- this is what modeling friends and the forums are all about!
  2. When I do heat discoloration on exhaust manifolds and piping, I use the clarified liquid at the top of the paint bottle. I use Testor's bottle paint, and use blue, yellow, and ruby red for the heat stains. Tip- clear coat the headers first and then apply coloring- otherwise if the headers were painted with chrome or similar paint, it will reliquify and get ugly. I think your project is great and can't wait for more pix. Also can't wait for your list of the parts sources- that front axle is really nice, also the engine pulleys and belt.
  3. I am looking for a good source for a Ford 427 SOHC engine in 1/24 or 1/25 scale. I have some miscellaneous valve covers in my parts box, some with a pebbly texture and a bit larger than others, some smooth, others with ribbed areas. No matching engines, unfortunately! Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially aftermarket sources, since I don't like to cannibalize a kit if I can avoid it!
  4. Here's the Red Hornet- this kit has always been a favorite
  5. Tom, thanks for all the great pix, especially the deuces! I would have been there, but a sudden medical problem prevented me coming- bummer! I better now, looking forward to next year, but it won't be quite the same without the 75th anniverary of the world's greatest hot rod.
  6. Super! Super! Super! Now you'll have to build a replica of the Pierson Brothers 36 Ford as a pusher car! I also noticed the excellent book the model is resting on- what a great research source! Can't wait to see more pix!
  7. Peter, excellent builds! A couple of questions- what kit donated the Bentley grilles? Also, where did the gal figure come from?
  8. I see a thread here.... If we buy more and more kits, and plan to build them all, we will all achieve immortality!?!?
  9. great job, will this be at NNL East? maybe as primer project?
  10. awesome body work, and sweet choice of custom bodies to duplicate! more pix please as you make progress!
  11. I like the 34 grille too, I assume you will add a grille surround which the headlight buckets will be molded to? I love the poseable steering, great job overall, how about more pix?
  12. I'll be there with deuces wild!
  13. excellent model, excellent photos, excellent execution, excellent subject!
  14. as plastic kits, 1/25th or 1/24th scale: Bugatti t57sc Atlantic 1961 Lincoln Continental 4 door convertible, new tooling 1932 Ford roadster and 3 window coupe, stock, with 40's speed parts Smokey Yunick's pod Indy car Harry Miller's front wheel drive Indy car Chrysler Chronos the prototype D Jaguar with the driving light Stuart Hilborn's streamliner first generation Novi with full engine detail Harley Davidson Knucklehead 1935 Miller-Ford Indy car and many more........
  15. Fritz Schlumpf, who tried to buy up all the Bugattis, had a Bugatti in his living room. It was better looking than his girlfriend.....
  16. Thanks, J. Nigrelli, I like the 40's era hot rods the best- If you're at the NNL East, it'll be there along with my 32's.
  17. Sweet! Looking forward to seeing them up close and personal at the NNL East!
  18. Mopar Madness, glad you like Fords too! Here's a few pix of my 29av8 done 40's style you might like. http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h18/Paul_Payne/av8pix
  19. Tom, the dash is sheet aluminum cut to shape. The engine turning was done with a 1/16" diam. flat tipped diamond bit in my rotary tool. I just started touching it to the surface and tried to control it enough to create a fairly even pattern. Mr. Metallic, the engine is a Corvette ZR-1 retroed to look like a 60's engine. The blower is made from two bodies from the AMT 57 Chevy blower. The Ford decal is a joker because I usually don't like Chevy engines in Ford rods!
  20. Zebm1, I have included some pix as well as the link. Sorry, I didn't realize viewing the link was that time consuming, but there's a lot more pix than I can include on one post.
  21. haven't heard from you in a while- any more progress pix on this great project?
  22. finally done, more pix at the link
  23. Steve, we meet again! That engine looks a lot like the one in my 29 a-v8. Go for it! That one only took me 3-1/2 years to finish, but that included two moves......here's pix at: http://s60.photobucket.com/albums/h18/Paul_Payne/
  24. thanks for the comments- this was exactly the look I wanted- low, mean, and dark- not much chrome- note the club is the Black Widows! Fullauto 1966, I like the progress of you deuce- keep us posted with more pix. I wanted the car to look like an older build updated with disc brakes, wide tires, and a newer engine, and I like the simplicity of the Moon discs.
