The news today says that GM has decided to send Pontiac the way of Oldsmobile, into history, along with 21,000 workers, several factories, and 1,000+ dealerships. It is all part of restructuring to stave off bankruptcy and get government money. That means that the end has definately come for GTO, The Judge, and Solstice, as well as 442, Cuda, GTX, Road Runner, etc. It will be up to modelers to recreate these missing icons of automotive history. They are the victims of the current economy, much as Pierce Arrow, Duryea, Hupmobile, Cord, and many others were the victims of the Great Depression that began in 1929. Gary

Removing permanent marker "paint"

Tommy, you're pretty smart for a "Certified General Flunkie". Gary -
Looks ready to drop in and go! Gary

Merkur asked a question, "Does the '68 Charger come with a vinyl top?" I found the answer to that question after I had sanded and cut all the trim off. "No, the Revell '68 Charger doesn't have a vinyl top." I opened the kit and looked. Also, both fascia will fit either body. I could have saved myself a lot of sanding if I had looked before I did all that work. From now on I'll decide whether or not I want the vinyl top before deciding which body to use. Gary

I think I stole it from somebody else! Gary Ricky, I see you've been busy again. I have some extra parts for that kit if you need them. I now have 3 of those kits, 2 of which are in a project I haven't touched in awhile. Let me know if you need anything.

I read all of these posts real fast, but here's my 2 cents worth. The Revell '68 & '69 bodies are the same except for the vinyl top. I have both kits and the the fascia parts from either kit will fit either body. I wish I had realized that before I sanded off the roof and cut the trim off of a '69 body. Back in the day, I had a friend who had a 440, 4 sp. Coronet R/T. It had a Dana 60. Hemis and 440 4speeds got the big rearends. 440 automatics got the 8 3/4. I still dream of the 440 Barracuda I drove once in '69. Gary

Zoom Zoom, a.k.a. Bob Downie seems to know what he's talking about, judging from his work. Matte, satin, and flat clear are valuable tools for getting the effect you want from a color. Gary

Aren't these the cars that in NASCAR form had a vent in the side of the front fender? The kit doesn't have it but almost NASCAR guys ran this arrangement to keep the car on the ground and increase speed. Good reference website: http://www.57chevyblackwidow.com/ Gary

2 New reissues from Round 2

I'm glad to hear the '33 Willys is coming back. Is it like the K.S. Pittman drag car, or like 80's street rod re-issue? I just traded for the Willys street rod kit. I'm looking forward to the Ford monster motor in that kit. Gary -
You're all lucky. Nearest LHS with MCM is over 100 miles (If that's local?) I can't even find that "other" magazine around here. Life sucks when you don't have a LHS. I guess its time for a subscription. I'm sure MCM would agree. Gary

I haven't tried Alclad as yet but have a project waiting. I have used Krylon H2O primer and I think its great. I use Wal-Mart enamel primer and am very happy with it. I polish it with a cheap paper towel just before painting and get a great results. Polishing with a paper towel makes for a very smooth finish that still allows the paint to grab the surface. When I use it under Alclad, I'll expect super results, but it may be a failure. Gary

Or you can hit it with a coat of satin or flat over the top, depending on the effect you want. Airplane and armor modeling have been putting Future under decals for years, then overcoat with flat. Gary

Pic's of your Pet's
BigGary replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Suddenly I'm reading a magazine and forum about pets? I am reluctant to be a party pooper here but isn't this MODEL CAR magazine forum? I think pictures of pets have their place but I'm sure this is not it. Whoever started this thread probably thought it was a cute idea. I have a dog too, but I don't think this is the place to post his picture. Gary -
I went immediately to the Reliable Resins website as listed. I couldn't find any AFB's. They must be really new. Gary

That '64 Ford F-100 reminds me of the annual I built in high school. I'd like to build it again. Gary -
Congratulations on the ribbons Stang! I see you got the redlines in time and they look great. I saw a T-5 in Louisiana. As I recall it was dark green and everyone was puzzled why it looked like a Mustang, but didn't say "Mustang" on it anywhere. I thought it was a unique piece of automotive history. Car shows and cruise nights are full of Mustangs, but not many T-5s. Gary

I'm assuming that this kit models special "unofficial" production cars made by a place in the south under GM's supervision. They are the only '57 Chevys made with 6 lug wheels and other special goodies. If they are the ones I'm thinking of they put grills in the fenders on the NASCAR models so that air wouldn't be trapped in the fender wells. I read about them some time back but don't remember many details. Gary

For all its virtues, I can say that in 45 years of reading car magazine I've never seen one like that. Gary

You should be grateful she didn't knock you up 'side the head with a frying pan. -
I have several '66 Chevelle wagons and I've sent two of the front seats to various parts of the world to people who used it in the '69 Nova. It fits right and looks good. The picky among us may say the upolstery pattern is not correct, but it can be fixed. Gary

There's a reason they call California "The land of fruits and nuts", and it doesn't have anything todo with what grows on the trees. Gary Born and raised in California, got to Texas as fast as I could. -
Are there any other car models NW of Wichita Falls, around Altus, OK, Vernon, TX and that area. I'm kind of isolated up here. Gary

Go back a few issues of our favorite magazine and there is a large ad for a company that has pads in various grits for a good price. You do actually read MCM, right? Gary

Congrats on the 3rd place with Eleanor. A 1st, 2nd, & 3rd at the New Orleans show must be easy to live with. Good Job! Gary
