The thing implied but never stated in your lengthy treatise is that we build these kits for our own personal pleasaure, and the collectors you so distain also do it for the same reason. Yes, there are some who are in it strictly for the money. I have a friend who collects kits, in his case airplanes- as a hedge for his retirement. He's buys 3 of each new release. More power to him I buy for the pleasure of building, although I haven't actually finished anything in the last 3 years!? I know I'm not alone in that. It seems to be a disease among some modelers. None the less, when time and motivation align themselves, things happen. I taught one of my sons to model, and now his models are medal and he hopes to soon have one that runs on gas. Gary

If you haven't figured it out yet Jeff, there is more than one nut job on this forum, or this is where they truly show themselves. Gary

I've found that even with the purple pool and an old or new toothbrush, there will be residual paint to scrap off. It hides out in corners and crevices but comes off easily. Depending on whether primer remains, it should be ready to repaint after the wash and dry. I can't get it that smooth. Just check it over real good. Gary

Parts for these old trucks a definately available. Here's a link to just one of many antique Ford parts suppliers: http://www.lmctruck.com/features/FC/FCYearsCovered.htm I used to know a guy who bought stuff from them and was very happy. Also check "Custom Classic Trucks Magazine", among others, to find out more info. Gary

Another Casualty Of The Economy
BigGary replied to 93Z34's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I lived the yankee portion of VA I had 2 choices for model stuff, Hobby Town and a 1 man hobby shop. I found HT's prices high but when shipping was added from one of the big online sites, I saved $2. My experience when shopping on line is that shipping will kill you. Today I started to order Soft Touch Polishing Pads from Micro-Mark. the order went away when they wanted $8.95 to ship a $6.40 item that weighed a couple of ounces tops. THAT'S RIDICULOUS!! I called their Customer Service & told them why I canceled. The nice lady on the phone said she would pass that on. I'm convinced many of these companies make most of their profit on shipping. Gary -
I sennt a message to www.amtkits.com about the AMT '65 Dodge kit that seems in demand, or at least great interest. "Are there any plans to re-issue the annual of the '65 Dodge 2 door hardtop? There seems to be a demand for this kit and if you can find one on e-bay it wil cost you your first-born child. As I recall, the kit came with a Hemi and Ramcharger decals. Can you re-issue this kit? Gary Here is there reply: We are not able to reissue the '65 Dodge at this time. However, we are aware of its significance and the interest that modelers have in it. Regards, John Greczula AMT / MPC / Polar Lights / Auto World Thank you to John for his reply

Torino Bradley needs to know that "I don't know" & "I didn't take it" have been getting around. They're found in nearly every house in America, and elswhere if the truth were told. I have noticed however, that they are not around as much since my kids moved out. Hmm.. Gary

What? No CB radio in the interior! Did I miss it, or was it not installed yet? Gary

How about a little model car history?
BigGary replied to tim boyd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, if anybody's got a right to brag, it's Tim Boyd! Those are awesome builds. I'm working on bringing back a '51 Chevy 'vert glue bomb, and that was great inspiration. Thanks, Tim Gary -
Improved Lighting & Magnification Options?
BigGary replied to nitrojunkie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Whoever said "Getting old is not for cowards" sure knew what he's talking about. Since I'm naturally near sighted, I've begun to take off my glasses for close work. I may have to go to mag glasses at some point, or maybe I'll go back to R/C airplanes. A lot fewer small parts there. Gary -

Correction to Chris' post above. The correct website for Reliable Resins is www.reliableresin.com If you put "resins" in there, you are taken to a search engine. Found out the hard way, Gary

I say it needs a big block, rollbar, wheelie bars, and a chick driving in shorts and tank top. Gary

You did all that in one day?!!! Its an exceptional paint job, but I can't imagine how you did it in one day? Gary

Its looks like great potential as a 2 dr. hardtop. That would be different. For an idea, check the latest issue of Street Rodder Magazine. (An idea book for MCM modelers) There is a drawing of a '52 Chevy fastback converted to a 2 dr. hardtop. Can you get the vision? Gary

Sounds like winter in Uki gets stump going on kits. Great job Stump. Gary

The Monogram 1/24 '56 Chevy has a SBC with twin turbos. Both turbos blow into a single tube and into the carb. I have this kit to trade. Gary
