What is with the 50s?
BigGary replied to 50smania's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You will also find many 50s cars & trucks done by resin casters. Sites like Jimmy Flintsone Studios, Resin realm (R&R), Star Models, etc. have many 50s cars. & custom variations. You have to want them real bad though, because of the prices. Jimmy Flintstone's prices are pretty good for just bodies, but kits are always expensive. Gary -
I have 3 of the Harbor Freight/Northern tool grade airbrushes and I've found them to be very close to the Badger they are copied from. I use 3 at a time so I spend more time painting and less time cleaning, then they all get cleaned together. Gary

Here's a good engine shot for the '65 318, the last year they used this engine. http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/1965-d...nvertible-6.jpg Here's a shot of a '65 with a 383: http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.org/mmo22005.html Gary

Is Storm Gray a metallic? It kind of looks like it is. Hang in there Ricky and finish this one in record time! Gary

How do you remove Hot Glue??
BigGary replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hot glue melts at a relatively low temperature. Hot water may loosen the glue without hurting the plastic. If that fails, try the blow dryer. Another possibility is to put it in the freezer. That will make the glue super hard and it might come loose like it does tube cement. Is it worth a shot? Gary -
The dismantling of America continues...
BigGary replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry, Chrysler is already 55% owned by Fiat, who can appreciate its cars and innovations instead of stealing ideas and taking credit like Mercedes did. Nor will Fiat have to have Chrysler to save its a** like Mercedes did. Chrysler was anything but derelict. They had more cash on hand than Ford Or GM in the later part of '07 & early '08. If Mr. Hope & Change hadn't screwed things up further, most of this wouldn't have happened. But he's had his hand in the pot for years and is working to destroy America so he can turn it into a socialist nation, yet another failure in a long line of failed socialist countries. Gary -
You should be able to spray latex paint with your airbrush if its thinned down to the consistency of milk, but latex dries fast so don't let it sit too long. Practice makes perfect so vary your pressure and practice a lot. Gary

You've got all the parts in the '68 Charger kit to do a late 60s S/S Charger. With a Hemi it would be SS/B and witha 440, SS/C, assuming you're using the 4 speed. The hood is correct for a Dick Landy built car. Good Luck, Ricky Assuming of course that you're actually going to finish it, as some of your detractors have noted. Gary

airbrush repair needed!
BigGary replied to oldskoolmini's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not familiar with the G44, but be sure your bottle vent hole is not clogged. If its clogged, that would explain why the top blows off. Gary -
What model or car inspired you the most?
BigGary replied to FloridaBoy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can't say I was "inspired" by any one model, but because of a deep seated love for anything mechanical, I've been "into" cars, trucks, airplanes, heavy equipment, trains, etc. My most current inspiration however comes from the Street Rodder Road Tour '52 Chevy 2 dr. hdtp. in the Sept. issue of SR I love the paint and stance. Since I don't have a chassis or glass for my '51 Chevy hdtp, I'm doing a similar '51 convertible, back dating it to a late 50s custom. That is, of course, assuming I ever get around to finishing it. Is it just me or.............
BigGary replied to Jeff Sauber's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It may be that given the expense of PE, etc. for a high quality model, plus the wonderful economy we're having right now, that it has become very expensive to build these models. When most of us are cringing at $25 kit prices, spending that much or more for accessories just isn't in the budget. When money gets tight, its not the grocery budget that takes the hit for model stuff, at least not in most houses. Since I got laid off in August, (again), I've cut down on the summer spending spree. I haven't bought a kit since early August after buying 6 over the summer. Its a simple reality of life. Gary -
Dave, your just supposed to warm it until its warm to the touch, not hot! I just run hot water over the can a few minutes to warm it up. Shake it real good and it should be ready if you have a clean nozzle. I just pulled a '67 Coronet out of the purple pool last night after my paint job went to the crapper. I tried polishing out the Orange peel, but there was too much. I'll try again next warm day with an airbrush. Gary

In the 1:1 world when tail lights are replaced, the old tail light opening is filled and a new opening created. If you've seen pickups with tall, skinny, mid 90s Caddy tail lights, they filled in the old opening and cut a new one for the new tail light. A model would be done the same way. Cut a piece of sheet plastic styrene to fill in the opening, glue in place, and fill any gaps with putty. Let it dry and sand smooth. Cut the new opening for the new tail light. Done. Gary

I love this kind of off-the-wall stuff. It reminds me of a car I saw in the late 60s. It was some kind of little rear-engine Italian thing with an 800 cc engine, but it had Porsche 911 engine & trans. Ran like a bat out of hell and mopped up on SS396 Chevelles on a regular basis. Gary

I was laid off in April of '08. Now you'd think a guy laid off would have lots of time to build models, but I didn't finish a single one in 10 months off work. Then I was off work and paid all summer of '09, still didn't finish a model, just painted a few. Go figure. You'd think a guy with no job would get lots of models built. Not me. Apparently I'm good at starting them, but not at finishing. Besides, TLC has "Overhaulin," and "Wrecks to Riches" from 10-3 Wed. Fri. Love those shows. Gary

What does "NNL" stand for?
BigGary replied to spudmuffin1959's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I read somewhere it was No Name Luminaries Gary -
The 1/32 scale semi wheels will scale out in 1/25 at about 18-20 inches. I built a 55 Chevy stepside dually and they looked perfect. Gary

`51 Chevrolet Belair Convertible

I e-mailed Round2 awhile back and asked them about re-issuing the '65 annual. They said they were aware of the interest in this kit, but had no plans to re-issue in the near future. Maybe you've noticed the original AMT kit from '65 brings high prices. Maybe if enough people e-mailed Round2 and asked about it, that might make it happen. By the way, I disgree with Mark about the side Chrome trim. The chrome trim appears to me to be straight. The body is slightly higher in back than in front. Here's a '65 to compare to: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http:/...=1&ct=image Gary

Someone said in an earlier post that the Challenger would end in 2011. I looked on www.allpar.com and I couldn't find anything either way. However, the rendering of the '11 Charger is awesome. There are rumors of a proposed 2 dr. Charger, like it should have been.  IMO, the Challenger should have been a little smaller, closer to the 70s version, but with the same engines. Gary

Worked some 1:1 flames today..

Looks like you and Dad are working on matching beer bellies. I can talk, I've got one like Dad's. Gary -
You're not really too far from reality. In '63 & '64 Ford built Galaxies with the Thunderbolt engine combo, teardrop hood, etc. Dropping the FE 427 into the Fairlane was an effort to make Ford more competitive against the 427 BB Chevies and Dodges/Plymouths with the Stage 3 426 wedge or Hemi. Gary

I wonder if the AMt Parts Pak Allison V-12 would fit in there? Gary
