Modeler's Scars
Dave Ambrose replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a few scars in my hands from slipping knives. I couldn't afford new blades so often used the blades for too long. Didn't have the patience to sharpen them, tho I did eventually develop an OK technique. -
Do you keep your instructions?
Dave Ambrose replied to VanSpence's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I sometimes keep my instructions. IPMS rules for box stock mandate that the instructions be with the model, so if I might enter a model in that class, I keep them. Sometimes, I don't build all parts of a kit. If there is a left-over say, a tractor, I'll put the parts in a baggie with the instructions so I can put it together at a later date. -
I find I have to periodically cycle power, otherwise my iPad gets neurotic.

Ad Blockers
Dave Ambrose replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This new Google ad system is just a fiasco. The Drag Racing section got blacklisted as adult content by their automated system. Back when the Internet was young and frisky, a common insult was referring to someone as a “buggy AI program.” Now that moniker is more apropos than ever. -
Ad Blockers

Wow. We already block those, but clearly someone has gamed the system. Let me see what I can do. -
Biggest pet peeves on builds.
Dave Ambrose replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think the last word exists on any known subject. Sometimes, it's useful to revisit older discussions and questions. Things change. Our understanding changes, and if we aren't different people than we were 3 years ago, we're not growing enough. -

Ideally, we'd put them in their own section. But, we already have too many subcategories, and I'm very reluctant to make more. That said, I see your point. -

I thought of another pet peeve, and it really is a pet -- cat hairs. In the paint. And no, there will be no easy way to remove them. This beloved miscreant is the source. . -
I'll get this fixed. Now that our backup drive is replaced, it's back at the top of my list. It took a long time to find the root cause. But now that I have it, I should be able to modify the rules so they don't bother the forum.

It also helps to embed the link in some descriptive text. On desktops and tablets, there is a button on the editor that will let you do this. It looks like 3 links of chain. Highlight the text you want to link, then click the button. You can then paste the link into the dialog.

Paint drama has been my Achilles heel. I'm pretty sure I need to prep a bunch of bodies, and just spend an entire weekend painting. -

British cars. Mostly MGs. My first car was a ‘62 MGA. -

Sweet! Those look like HIF 6's. -
Wow. I wonder if we have an excess of left handers here? I’m also left handed despite a concerted effort by the nuns to make me right handed. I also shoot right handed, but mostly because I’m right-eyed.

We’re having a different problem. There is a package of rules on the server intended to thwart people trying to hack into our server. Unfortunately, they sometimes thwart legitimate users. You get a 404 error when one of the rules thinks you’re a bad guy.

When Modeling Skills Transfer To Real Life
Dave Ambrose replied to Tom Geiger's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That’s awesome. It’s nice to know we can do adorable when we need to. -
Happy Thanksgiving to all our US members, and those who celebrate the holiday elsewhere. I hope it's filled with family, friends, and good things.

Maybe someone is going to remake Damnation Alley and they needed a mini-Landmaster?

Bill, you sure know how to find SQL Injection rules! ? Got this problem fixed. Still working on a better solution.
