Biggest pet peeves on builds.
Dave Ambrose replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No kidding. Sometimes I think the cats eat better than I do. Then one them brings home a gopher. Caviar is probably super fish to them, and what cat doesn't like fish? -
thank you for letting me join the community

My wife paints lead D&D figures. If you have bare metal, the best thing is to use an etching prep on it. I use Jasco Metal Prep, and it works well. It should work well on the Zamac used in diecast bodies. Properly cleaning and degreasing is also important. Handle the bodies with gloves after you clean them. Definitely use a primer if you're working from bare metal. Other than that, the Tamiya paints, or enamels should work just fine. -
Unfortunately, we now have to moderate new members because one individual started creating bogus accounts and threatened to trash the forum. just post some more good stuff and we’ll have you off moderation in a jiffy.

You can typically just insert the pictures by dropping them into the area at the bottom of the text area. You can then decide where they should appear in the text.

The LED lights are hard to beat. They're just about as bright as any CFL you're likely to get, use less energy, and last a very long time.

Biggest pet peeves on builds.

The cat is actually a she. I’d chase her off of there, but she has intestinal leukemia. It’s well controlled with meds, but I just don’t have the heart. -

The Mitsuoka "Rock Star".
Dave Ambrose replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wouldn’t that make a very nice sports car? It’s too bad they can’t make a whole bunch of those for the US market? -
Post back here or pm me if it’s still a problem tomorrow. There are some timeouts still pending.

PM me if you're still having the problem tomorrow. By then, all the timeouts should have expired. -
That's good to hear. We should be rock solid going forward.

Site Problems
Dave Ambrose replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The fix is now in place. It may take up to 24 hours for the changes to propagate to all corners of the world, but I expect them to take hold much sooner. I don't know why, but Safari seems to be more prone to the problem than other browsers. At least that's been my experience. -

I found the source of the problem late last night. Will get it fixed as soon as I can. Thanks for being patient.

People have been reporting problems accessing the forums and the main site. The diagnostic is either site not found, or IP address not found. We've found the root cause, and will be fixing it just as soon as we can. Thanks for being patient. Update: The fix is now in place. Our hosting company ran into some Directory Name Service problems. It should be cleared up now, but you might have some locally stored information that isn't up to date yet. Clearing your browser cache, or rebooting the computer should clear the problem. Thanks, Dave Ambrose

I watched part of the webcast last night. Just search for Round 2 on YouTube and you’ll find it. I liked that they had a round table discussion. The commentary was generally good. They clearly aren’t comfortable in front of the camera, but I wasn’t expecting a polished production. There’s clearly more going on at that company than we generally acknowledge here, and that was good to see as well. I hope they do these regularly.

I'm running out of room.
Dave Ambrose replied to ewetwo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I’ve actually run out of room in my display case for built-ups. I’m planning to build a new display case for the end of our hallway. It’ll be deep enough for most of the models in my stash, but there are a few that will have to be hung from the ceiling. I haven’t yet convinced my wife that an imperial Star Destroyer should be part of our living room decor, but I did get buy in on a Disney Nautilus. -

Good Hobby shop in San Diego?
Dave Ambrose replied to Oldmopars's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Discount Hobbies on Clairemont is the best in the area. I understand that the owner wants to redevelop that property, but that's a few years off. They have at least couple of years on their lease, and the owner is required to give them a year's notice before cancelling it. They have an extensive selection of paints and finishing supplies. They also carry a good selection of Evergreen styrene. There's also have a location in Escondido. They're reasonably well stocked, but they don't have quite the selection of paint the Clairemont store has. To the east is HobbyTown in Santee. They don't have a deep selection of kits, but the kits they have are good. They do have a good stock of paints and finishing supplies. I don't recall seeing any Evergreen plastic there, but I wasn't looking for it either.
