  1. I’ve actually run out of room in my display case for built-ups. I’m planning to build a new display case for the end of our hallway. It’ll be deep enough for most of the models in my stash, but there are a few that will have to be hung from the ceiling. I haven’t yet convinced my wife that an imperial Star Destroyer should be part of our living room decor, but I did get buy in on a Disney Nautilus.
  2. That’s very nice. I gave my 5 year old grandson an X-wing snap tite for Christmas. He loves it, and it’s a good model too. Get ‘em introduced before they know better. That’s my child rearing philosophy. ?

  4. Welcome back. If you come across your old user name, let me know, and I’ll merge the two.
  5. Discount Hobbies on Clairemont is the best in the area. I understand that the owner wants to redevelop that property, but that's a few years off. They have at least couple of years on their lease, and the owner is required to give them a year's notice before cancelling it. They have an extensive selection of paints and finishing supplies. They also carry a good selection of Evergreen styrene. There's also have a location in Escondido. They're reasonably well stocked, but they don't have quite the selection of paint the Clairemont store has. To the east is HobbyTown in Santee. They don't have a deep selection of kits, but the kits they have are good. They do have a good stock of paints and finishing supplies. I don't recall seeing any Evergreen plastic there, but I wasn't looking for it either.
  6. I think we’re in for an outstanding Super Bowl. I’ll be rooting for the 49ers, but the Chiefs certainly deserve to be there too.
  7. My heartfelt prayers and condolences to you and your family.
  8. If you want it in the calendar, go to the top of the page, click calendar, then create event. Fill in the information, be sure to point people to a place where they can find full contest information. A moderator will approve it.
  9. I think I can do something to remedy that. Let me look into it and I'll PM you.
  10. We don’t delete content, we hide it. I checked, you did say Harry wrote it for him. Thank you for clarifying your intent. I don’t think we’d have an issue with soliciting content for a book so long as it didn’t get obnoxious. I’d expect the contribution to be attributed, but it’s generally legit.
  11. In point of fact, you said that Harry wrote his book for him. Perhaps you misspoke? That’s very different than saying Harry helped him. Harry did the layout. That’s his profession. He also copy edits well. It’s a very unusual combination in one person. That fact that he did both of those on that book shouldn’t be a surprise. Neither one constitutes writing the book.
  12. Let's slow down for a minute. Does anyone have reliable information on what Dr. Cranky is doing and why? I've seen precious little thus far. Yet people feel perfectly free to speculate in a disparaging manner. It takes a huge effort to write a book and get it ready for publication. I've seen it. Ratz, Rodz, and Rust is a very nice book for about the same price as a kit. If you like rusty things, you should get a copy. It also takes a lot of effort to put together even a few minutes of video. The rule of thumb is an hour of raw video for a few minutes of finished video. OK, he's getting money from Youtube, and his book. Those are honest efforts. The Youtube channel alone probably consumes a fat chunk of his free time. That he's not on here is neither surprising or insidious. So, going forward, don't speculate. It doesn't make the world better for anyone. And yes, I cleaned up the thread. If your post here is gone, consider it a warning.
  13. Sounds like a security rule. We're working on getting those figured out. This is like learning a whole 'nother language.
  14. Did this work after we upgraded? I don't think it's part of the default theme for the site. I will be updating that in the next month or so.
  15. It looks like you encountered our security rule problem. I'm still figuring this one out, but should have a solution soon. The words i n s e r t and s e l e c t tend to inflame the security rules. Misspelling them should get the post to work.
  16. Congratulations, Tomo. That's a huge improvement on your painting. Painting is the hardest part of this hobby, and orange peel the bane of our existence.
  17. Are these large photos? We have a 6MB limit on photo size.
  18. I’m so sorry. I hope you can find comfort and healing.
  19. I have a few scars in my hands from slipping knives. I couldn't afford new blades so often used the blades for too long. Didn't have the patience to sharpen them, tho I did eventually develop an OK technique.
  20. I sometimes keep my instructions. IPMS rules for box stock mandate that the instructions be with the model, so if I might enter a model in that class, I keep them. Sometimes, I don't build all parts of a kit. If there is a left-over say, a tractor, I'll put the parts in a baggie with the instructions so I can put it together at a later date.
  21. This is one of my favorites. For those not familiar with him, Jeff Dunham is a ventriloquist, and Achmed, the dead terrorist, is one of his characters. This is Achmed's hotrod.
  22. I find I have to periodically cycle power, otherwise my iPad gets neurotic.
  23. This new Google ad system is just a fiasco. The Drag Racing section got blacklisted as adult content by their automated system. Back when the Internet was young and frisky, a common insult was referring to someone as a “buggy AI program.” Now that moniker is more apropos than ever.
  24. Wow. We already block those, but clearly someone has gamed the system. Let me see what I can do.
  25. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I don't think the last word exists on any known subject. Sometimes, it's useful to revisit older discussions and questions. Things change. Our understanding changes, and if we aren't different people than we were 3 years ago, we're not growing enough.
