Thanks. This is a good idea. Saves space, and makes the pictures more useful.

Why isn't there anymore 2d SUV
Dave Ambrose replied to youpey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We went from an FJ40 Landcruiser to a Suburban. With kids and all, you gotta have 4 doors. After the Suburban got stolen, we bought ourselves an Xterra; also 4 doors. Drove that poor thing to death, but got 265K until the transmission failed. I don't get why people buy the fancy leather seats for their SUVs. I don't know about the rest of you, but the interior of our vehicles see way too much salt, sand, and dirt for leather upholstery to last more than a few years. The upholstery in our Xterra was derided as cheap looking, and it kinda was, but boy was it durable. -
Yes, just attach them to your postings. You can also copy and paste photos. We have essentially unlimited space. The only downside is that full backups can take a long time, and a LOT of space. But that's my problem. Sadly, we lost all of Harry Pristovnik's photos, thanks to Photobucket turning evil.

Welcome back! That is a rough ride. Hopefully, you can initiate a criminal complaint against these people. If they’re convicted, you can get restitution as part of the sentence.

preparing resin parts: soak in Simple Green?
Dave Ambrose replied to fiatboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've only used old-formula Bleche White. It worked great. Used lacquer primer and paint with no problems. I still have my bottle. Guess I'd better keep a close eye on it. I have a $350 kit I want to come out perfectly. -
I found a cause to some of the picture upload problems. We had the file size limited to 2MB. A lot of pictures are bigger than that. I've upped the limit to 3MB, and may increase it further to 4MB. If you have problems, check the file size first. If 3 MB isn't sufficient, let me know, and I'll increase the limit further.

This is great to see. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

freezing when Uploading Photos

That's a surprise. Thanks. It seems to have something to do with the message content. Try posting the first half of your message, and see if that makes a difference. -

This image was pasted from a random web site. Right now, I suspect there's a browser/Windows combination that isn't working. This is subject to change according to the dictates of reality. -

What browsers and operating system are you all using? I tested that on Chrome and Windows 10. It worked fine for both drag and drop and copy paste. -
Doug, that looks like orange peel. No practical amount of super fine sanding will fix it. Orange peel is a huge problem down heat due to the heat and low humidity. I don’t know if you’re using an airbrush, but if you are, try thinning the paint more. Lay down another color coat and try to make sure it’s a little wet. If you’d like more guidance, come to the San Diego Model Car Club meeting. We have a lot of expertise in painting.

Upgrade Status
Dave Ambrose replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks. Sounds like we both remember the bad old days. This is like my second worst upgrade ever. I’ll keep trying, but vendor support is very limited on the weekends. Going to have to do this during someone’s business hours. -

Try sending me a message. Other people have been sending them. It you still can’t, I’ll dig deeper. -

We’ve been getting that message for a while now. It's not harmful, and should disappear with the upgrade. The mobile presentation has been problematic for a while. The upgrade will also fix that. The site should be more responsive to your input. -
Update: I haven't had this much trouble with an upgrade in a very long time. Got past the first place we ran aground, only to find another roadblock. We'll get that solved and try again, probably on a weekday. Thank you all for being patient. Please let me know if you have any trouble posting pictures, or encounter the infamous 404 error. I did make tweaks to the server that may affect these.

Resin copy of rifle buttplate? (That can stand up to field use)
Dave Ambrose replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That looks a lot like the rubber buttplate that's on the 30-06 my dad built. Brownells has rubber buttplates that look similar, but aren't likely identical. There's a surprising number of Mauser fans for a relatively small population. I have three, my dad's in 30-06, mine in 30-06, and another on in 6.5mm Gibbs. (speaking of P.O. Ackley) -
Tamiya acrylic paint ?????
Dave Ambrose replied to retired & glad's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It depends on where you're buying your lacquer thinner. Traditional lacquer thinner is a mixture of toluene, xylene, and maybe a few other things. However, in California, it's mostly acetone due to clean air regulations. I don't know of any other state that requires this. Cali modelers are advised to buy some good stuff on their next trip to Nevada or Aridzona. -
I hope I can act as confirmation for that. We had a yellow Xterra for a long time. Great SUV. It lasted 13 years until the transmission failed. I completely approve of that color. Out here, most of the cars you see are either silver, black, or white, and sometimes a dull, boring shade called something like Champagne.

I need to build one of these in 1:1.

Well great...my basement is flooded....
Dave Ambrose replied to disabled modeler's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Yes. Wash the models, then dip them in a weak solution of household bleach to sterilize them. You’ll lose the boxes, instructions, and decals, but not the kits. Ne sure to label them and wear gloves when you wash them. -
I blame autocorrupt, sometimes mistakenly called autocorrect. I fixed it.
