  1. A few random thoughts -- I used to frequently SCUBA dive off the coast of San Diego. I almost always came across trash. I usually grab it and bring it back with me. Plastic bags were the worst. Turtles mistake them for the jellyfish they like to eat and die because the plastic isn't digestible and blocks their intestine. I just had this, and it would be an awful way to go. Something similar happens with straws. We're coastal, and that's a big part of why single use bags are banned now. Straws are now by request only. Neither are big burdens. Looks like San Diego is going to ban polystyrene take-out containers. I think that'll be a good thing too. We don't see much of that while diving because it floats, and we don't want to float. But, it's a big item at beach cleanups. I also saw a lot of fishing gear in some places while diving. Fishermen lose it, and have no way to get it back. I usually cut that stuff lose and bring it back with me. Surfboards have largely switched from old style polyurethane foams and polyester resin to polystyrene foam and epoxy resin. Much nicer in a lot of ways, in large part because the boards are a lot lighter. Polystyrene doesn't use a lot of toxic chemicals in its production process. This is vastly superior to the polyurethane foams that preceded it. It does need different construction methods that took a while to develop. The plastic injection molding companies in the LA area have all fitted traps on their building to capture stray pellets that were making their way into the storm drains. We're not perfect, or even good, but we're improving. Hopefully in time, or there will be some very posh sections of town underwater.
  2. Maintenance is complete. We reorganized the topics a bit. How-tos, along with Questions and Answers got moved into the General section where we think they'll be more visible. You should see generally faster page loading too. There's more to come, but today looks like a success. Whew!
  3. I don’t have any restrictions set, but maybe it doesn’t work right. Let’s revisit this after I update the forum software.
  4. What's the name of the file? I know the forum has problems with embedded spaces in the file names. If it doesn't have any of these, then perhaps the type is the problem. If it's a legitimate fily type, I can add it to the list of allowed file types.
  5. I really like that car. I've never been a big fan of the big grill Mercs, but this front end is both subtle and effective. The rest of the car delights my eyeballs too.
  6. Thank you for sharing these. I may have to build one of these. I'm impressed with how stable that car is through its run. Having the exhaust directed upward like that surely helps a lot, as do the winglets on the front.
  7. We'll take a look at this once I get some technical problems ironed out with our server. The board gets more complicated, and less useful when you start adding more forums, so we have to be careful with what we add. In the meantime, you can use tags on the postings to distinguish them. I'd suggest: Racing Bonneville LSR CanAm Indy Formula 1 The racing tag is generic, and we can use new ones as we see fit.
  8. Got the 71 Duster kit today. Nice car, was going to build my brother-in-law’s car. Now need some steel wheels with dog dish hub caps.
  9. I’ve used this for fixing my surfboard, but never thought about using it for model cars. It’s great stuff. You can cure it in the sun if you don’t want to use a UV light. I need to try this myself. Thanks!
  10. The Green Monster used this very system to keep the front end down. It was fairly low gain as the front had to rise noticeably before the wing put it back down. But it worked and he set more than a few records with it.
  11. There’s an interesting book about the Fletcher class destroyers, Typhoon, the Other Enemy. I highly recommend it.
  12. OK folks, enough with the risque name corruptions.
  13. Greg, what topics are giving you this behavior?
  14. He was held out as someone who practically walked on water. He'd commute between France and Japan, getting his sleep on an overnight flight. Now he's in a Japanese jail. The Nissan CEO held a press conference that didn't reveal much of substance, but alluded to some severe misconduct and lack of proper oversight. I was surprised to learn that Mitsubishi was also part of the alliance. My, how the mighty have fallen. And, for the record, I loved our Xterra and I'm mostly happy with our Frontier. But I wonder why they did away with the torsion bar front suspension.
  15. That won't be spring. It will be winter.
  16. Chico and Paradise are big hot rod/classic car towns. We're be hearing about more car losses. It's sad, but nothing compared to the people who've been lost. The missing list was sitting at 1000. Not all of them are lost, but I'm going to be a lot of them will not be found.
  17. I use a cardboard box and a low wattage automotive work light. I call it a bake box. Works great, and is consummately cheap.
  18. That is rough. There are implantable monitors they can use to catch the events, but I would get a second opinion. Maybe find someone up at Northwestern. It’s frustrating when you don’t fit the common signs and symptoms. It takes a persistent doctor, and assertive patient to figure out what’s wrong. I hope you can figure out what’s going on and get well.
  19. I did spend hours looking through the Auto World catalog. Those were good hours.
  20. Folks, please keep it civil. No ad hominum attacks.
  21. That's good to know. I had a Gundam builder strongly recommend Olfa knives to me last weekend. Do they take the Xacto blades?
  22. Derridean deconstruction finally meets popular culture.
  23. Just start a new topic in Under Glass. It's nice if you can include a link to the On the Workbench topic, but not required.
  24. Stopped by a hobby shop we don’t usually visit yesterday; Military Hobbies in Orange, CA. It’s a great hobby shop, it’s just very far away for us. Picked up a Finemolds X-wing kit. These are much better than the Bandai kits. My daughter found several 1/144 tanks for her Gundam dioramas. I especially appreciate how the owner treated my daughter like any other modeler and didn’t talk down to her.
  25. I have several C-cell powered SCUBA diving flashlights. Tenergy makes an actual C-size rechargeable battery. It has a capacity of 5000 mAH. A lot of C-cells only store 2500 mAH, which is the same as both the AA rechargeable cell, and your garden variety alkaline C-cell. You can get a set of good C-cells, and a charger for a reasonable price at the usual outlets.
