Drilling thin sheets has always been problematic for me. I would think that some kind of punch will work better.

Scribe-ing deeper panel lines
Dave Ambrose replied to Ahajmano's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I got one of these last year and like it a lot. It’s not cheap, but it’s high quality, and it works better than anything else I’ve tried. https://www.simpmodels.com/product-page/utimate-chisel-set-with-hand-made-extreme-comfort-handle -
Easiest way is to report the post, and ask to have it removed or moved.

CB anennas ?
Dave Ambrose replied to Goodwrench3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cat whiskers work too. The locally available ones might be the wrong color, but that’s correctable with a little dye or ink. -
I ran across this article from the New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/29/opinion/sunday/in-praise-of-mediocrity.html it seems very applicable to model cars too. I know I’ve fallen into that excellence trap. If everything wasn’t top notch, it wasn’t good enough. And, it sucked all the fun out for me. It wasn’t until a good friend called me an overachiever that I made the connection. Now I’m building good models and having a lot more fun with it.

I don’t generally keep my boxes. One thing I like about built up kits is that they take less space. I consolidate any kit leftovers into a storage bag and put it in another box with a description and any relevant instructions. I’ll have to change this at some point, but it’s working for now.

That’s gorgeous.

What are your Bucket List Kits?
Dave Ambrose replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow. Thanks! That’s a lot cheaper than the other sellers. Now to get it approved by the CFO. -
What are your Bucket List Kits?
Dave Ambrose replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I’ve got an odd one, the Revell “Everything is Go” kit. Haven’t seen one in ages. -
We are having some issues server side that is slowing things down. I had major surgery last week, and I’ll be fixing them as soon as I’m well enough to sit up for extended periods.

Jefferson Airplane was awesome. I’ve only seen them in concert once. They were opening for the Ramsey Lewis Trio. I was just a kid. My sister took me because we both liked Ramsey Lewis.

I think the Off-Topic Lounge should stay.....
Dave Ambrose replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I don’t see us getting rid of this forum. It’s part of what makes us a community. Many of our troublesome threads are here. Sometimes one of us moderators gets frustrated, and suggests dropping it, but it dissipates. -
Hello after the hurricane!

Ismael, I’m glad you’re safe and sound. It will be good to have you back on the board when it becomes feasible. Good luck with recovery. -
How to Remove "Ghost Trim"
Dave Ambrose replied to diymirage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ambroid liquid glue works well for me. Brush is over the removed trim and watch it reappear again. Might take a couple of go-rounds to get it really gone. -
Model Train Show - offending the purists
Dave Ambrose replied to iamsuperdan's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That’s an odd attitude to have since there is a long tradition of embedding little jokes in layouts. The legendary Gorre and Daphaeted railroad had, among other things, a man in a tuxedo shoveling coal. -

The Zen of Model Building
Dave Ambrose replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It’s taken a while, but I’m finally starting to just enjoy the process. I used to get frustrated at body prep and painting. Now I’m just letting events come to me, and not placing any particular expectations on them. Not only has my building improved, but I enjoy it more. My teacher says I’m learning mindfulness. -
car you always dreamed of owning but always just out of reach
Dave Ambrose replied to youpey's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
That’s interesting. The TF was always my favorite T-series MG. -
Haven't heard from Ace Garage Guy for awhile

Bill, you disappoint me. It should be obvious but, humor is much better when other people think it’s funny too. That wasn’t funny. Maybe you should get to know some transgender people? And you’re right. If you’d mentioned athelete’s foot, it simply would have been tasteless. Gender reassignment surgery is a sensitive subject. It’s unfortunate that you don’t understand that. And yes, I can speak from familiarity here. Much to my own surprise, I know two transgender people. Bringing in stuff from other contexts does little more than fuel someone’s sense of outrage without actually providing relevant information. Nobody’s getting charged with anything. But, if you really can’t abide by the guidelines we set down, you’re welcome to go elsewhere. You don’t pay for the servers or software maintenance. I expect you to follow the guidelines. If someone is attacking you in a posting, report it. I don’t recall seeing any reports from you regarding that, though I could have easily missed them. Thanks for bringing the original post to my attention. I intended to hide it, but apparently forgot. -

One of the few regrets in my life is selling my 1962 MGA. I haven’t been able to find another one at a price I could afford. -
Would it bother you?
Dave Ambrose replied to mchook's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It’s one thing if it’s for display. Quite another if it’s a contest. I don’t know about elsewhere, but around here every contest has a rule that entries must be the work of the person listed as the builder. Representing someone else’s work as your own will get you banned. -
Dan Gurney Impala
Dave Ambrose replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great story. I’ve never heard this before. Dan Gurney was one of my childhood heroes. My inner kids is shouting, “way to go Dan!”
