What was tucked under the tree,2011
B-dub replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rodney you copy cat.. just had to get one after I got one didn't you LOL anyways The g/f got me one of those Scout cx's a little early. I also got a camera and a new jack and some other cool stuff from the family.. I have to say the neatest thing is the box of models my dad had built in the 80's I am now tracking down copies of these old kids and I AM determined to build them (I have an ongoing wanted thread of that and a guy found a couple of the kits for me already along with some hard to find decals ! -
Another one bites the dust

" You guys really should take a quick look before you post stuff. This is already an open topic:" just saying with the title of this thread I skimmed over it without thinking so I didn't see this one myself. The other had a more direct title.. I'm sure plenty of people wouldn't have noticed that it was already posted. so no surprise it's a re-post never really gave saab much of a look but I remember they used to have a 2stroke powered car that was pretty neat. -
airbrushing with apple barrel/folk art acrylics?
B-dub replied to B-dub's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I must have overlooked the last few posts on this. I think i have airbrushing with it down now. I just played around with it and used a lot less thinning and it worked fairly well and it easier for me to work with and so forgiving.. here is a part I painted with black apple barrel I can remember how I missed it but I was to say I have almost double the amount of paint vs glass cleaner.. I LOVED how it sprayed out on the chassis. this pic was the next to last coat. pic doesn't do it much justice.. the paint is really nice and even and smooth... I'm sorry I'm just proud that I'm getting the hang of it and kicking my fears away. -
an Amazing Paleontology find a complete Dino
B-dub replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
it was a prowler back in 98 and it's actually in an above ground type of vault... wow.. crazy to realize how long it will actually sit there.. I'd be 57 when it's pulled out -

I'm really regretting chopping up the bed on my chevy ... I really needed a fresh box stock build to refresh me and get back In the game. I'm now working on my 85 svo instead but plan to work on the truck after I finish the car up.

... who steals a car and buries it.. lmao.. -
I used to love mustangs until everyone and their grandmother got one (I like being different) But I'd still like to get a clean gt fox hatch one day. I looked around on that thread, bunch of cool cars, still needing to do some touch up and waiting to hear back about my rear glass .. thinking about tinting out the back glass.. hmm

plan on using the back wheels.
-
... update,.... now I need to find a rear window... girlfriend stepped on it while I was in the floor sorting through models.. for some unknown reason she decided to walk right over my stuff and of course stepped straight onto the bag with the parts in it... bleh

testors gloss bright blue I spray bombed it since I'm still not doing well with the air brush but I airbrushed the bottom chassis and I'll be air brushing the interior as well. thanks for the comments guys. I'm going to be using the bottom wheels since I'm not too crazy about the wheels that came with the kit (the top ones) although I kind of want to strip them and paint them gloss black to put on the car. I'll be painting all the details on the car in semi-gloss black

first of all I must admit.. I've not finished a model since my early teens (I'm almost 21 now) and I've never painted a full model myself.. never any of the actual spray painting... so with that said I'm forcing myself to finish this model no matter how it's turning out.. no re-do on anything just going to finish it. I'm "pretending" It's not really an svo as I'm just custom painting it and ignoring the decals. color is a little grainy.. it could probably be polished actually but since this is my breaking out model I'm not going to worry about it. going to use these wheels from the camaro ss kit planning to do a little bit more detail painting but that's about it..

B-dub replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a decent idea what I'll be using I've decided it has to be 4x4.. and decent on gas (actually building what I want as a 1:1) so cranky what kind of appoc is this going to be? nuclear fallout where it's humans vs mutants and rebels oooor a goood ole ZAMBIE TAKEOVER! -
finally set on a local hobby shop, he doesn't carry much but as soon as I asked "know anywhere I can get some styrene" his reply was "what do you need and I'll order it" so I plan to go back maybe next week after figuring out what I want to get and order some stuff. I'm also going to see if there are any kits he can order for me. They are VERY friendly and run an r/c track. Ironically the f150 came in after the last time I was there I was making a comment how I like truck models.. he ordered it along with a 55 ford.

Can't seem to get painting right...
B-dub replied to B-dub's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
maybe that's my issue is I'm over thinning. Not sure but I followed cranky's advice but maybe that's what he is mixing for his gravity feed brushes. it's just craft acrylic.. I know people have a hate/love opinion of them but they are a lot like other acrylics just not thinned. apple barrel. -

acrylics as well? And thanks I plan on getting a bulk bag of spoons soon. -
well I keep trying to be more and more patient applying as even and thin coats as possibly and letting it dry.. but still I always have a run issue it's like I can't ever spray it light enough.. this is after about 3 passes with the airbrush eclipse siphon feed running 35psi Is my pressure too much? I've tried playing around with it but it doesn't seem to do much. could my paint be too thick or thin? I have paint 2 parts thinner to 1 part paint and it's a milky texture but could it be off a little bit?
