  1. Impressive work with the window trim and those hinges, Mike. You're giving me ideas for a very challenging rebuild I'll have coming up. Charlie Larkin
  2. Interesting rebuild, Mike. I think I have one of those downstairs that needs a first build. Charlie Larkin
  3. A rather interesting article on abandoned buildings and what they contribute to architectural diversity. Watch the video, too, it's quite interesting. Abandoned buildings Charlie Larkin
  4. Nice job, Jared. If you can, get another couple of pictures outside so we can see the color a little better. Charlie Larkin
  5. You did a nice job replicating the paint, which, even with decals, is a bear. Nice work on the chassis, too. Charlie Larkin
  6. For those with similar inclinations, to use the remainder of the kit if you so wish, AMC V8s are a common re-motoring for Step-Downs. Also LA-block Chryslers. Most people who do this from what I've seen generally keep the car more stock-appearing, although there are some really neat customs out there. Charlie Larkin
  7. Beyond words amazing, Virgil. This just screams "Help! I was hit with a shrink-ray!" real! This is some of the best work of any description I've ever seen anywhere. Definitely something to be proud of. Charlie Larkin
  8. I must say, the polished plastic looks really nice Mike. Great execution overall, as are all your builds. Chralie Larkin
  9. He needs to wait until he get his license..... Beautiful model. Charlie Larkin
  10. I like. Very nice execution and a nice color choice. Charlie Larkin
  11. Another product that works well I found is....toothpaste. Just polish the glass with it until it shines up. I found it worked very well with a window unit out of an SMP 1960 Valiant with a couple of bad, but shallow scratches and was just hazy. Charlie Larkin
  12. WOW! What a great build! Absolutely fantastic! Charlie Larkin
  13. John makes a very interesting proposition here, and it's one I'd be willing to get on-board with. If we had more nice, Craftsman/Junior-series style kits with well-detailed chassis plates, correct bodies and interiors and simple, easy assembly, I'd be completely on-board with it, especially if it helped bring about the release of kits that might sell, but not well-enough to justify a full-detail kit. The tooling costs will be much lower, and they can concentrate on getting what most people see, and care about, right. Charlie Larkin
  14. I agree completely with this. They've earned my business for this kit, whether it needs any tinkering or not. It will look great on my shelf and I can tell I'll enjoy building it. Charlie Larkin
  15. Standard paint thinner or lacquer thinner will work well. The brush cleaner is essentially paint thinner. The brush cleaner bottle can be refilled with either of these and re-used, as it's a good size for the brushes. Charlie Larkin
  16. Marina Blue is a 1966-'67 color, but a field repaint is always possible. I'd recommend a blue interior with it, too. Fawn was also available on the Bel Air, which is a very light tan. Take Testors flat tan and lighten it about 2-3 shades with flat white. The blue is pretty close to Chrylser Engine Blue with a little darker blue carpet. Charlie Larkin
  17. As we've had a large number of teens join us here lately... Guys- let this be a lesson to each of you. We don't need any untimely departures from any of you. You each have a long, full, and (hopefully) productive life ahead of you. Don't cut it short by doing something stupid or irrevocably dangerous. There is no return. There are no second chances if your behavior is poorly-judged enough. Please- think before you drive and don't give in to your friends trying to egg you on into doing something foolish while in the car. Think of the horror and grief your family and friends will be struck with. Terry, G, Dan Baker, Chris Mooney, and at least two or three other members of this board work in public safety. They'll be able to tell you about all the things they've seen over the years. Heed their warnings. David G. and Christian Pamp are both funeral directors. They'll be able to tell you about the aftermath. It isn't pretty. I can tell you about the devestation a school faces with the sudden loss of a student. So struck with horror are the students, that school all but stops. Be the mature, intellgent young men I know you're all capable of being. Charlie Larkin
  18. Dave, Thanks for putting those assembled mock-up pictures on. After taking a look at them and the black coupe that was posted, I really saw no issues at all, and I think you've done an excellent job on this. Having spent quite a bit of time around real Hudsons, I can honestly say that you've done this great car and the people who love them, proud. We thank you. Please accept nothing less than my most earnest congratulations on your achievement. My order from my local shop will be forthcoming. Charlie Larkin
  19. I think the wood treatment on the wheel would work well, too. Wayne- what is the base color of the interior? Charlie Larkin
  20. I was wondering what people were talking about exactly, so I went back and took a look. Dave- I think a lot of it is lighting, but I can't say for certain. I can say, though, that Art pointed out these are still the first shots and some minor revisions to the tool may still take place. If that's the case, and if that extra ridge on the hood is in fact there, I'm sure it'll be addressed. And if not, it looks like a pretty easy fix with a little putty and some plastic. Regardless of that one error (assuming it's there,) I'm still buying a whole bunch. The rest of this kit is so well-done from the looks of it that I am more than willing to forgive a comparitively minor error to get a model I've been waiting for since I was in high school. Charlie Larkin
  21. I've seen a lot of picks here that would make me very happy and would have me buying multiples of because I could. The Hornet is coming, so that's my biggest "want" out of the way. After that....tied between Chuck's call of a Studebaker Bullet-Nose or a 1940 LaSalle. Charlie Larkin
  22. This is simply incredible! Absolutely one of the finest builds I've ever seen. And the speed at which you've gotten this accomplished is phenomenal. Virgil, this is truly first-class work. For colors for the corrugated siding, I remember up around here that a lot of those buildings were a light blue. Floquil or Polly S Great Northern Big Sky Blue would be a good starting point for the base color, which you can alter to your liking. Charlie Larkin
  23. Meh, Monday or not. The new model I'm working on now. An AMT 1969 Olds 4-4-2 W-30. These pictures were actually taken Saturday. Charlie Larkin
  24. How'd I miss this first time around? GREAT job on this! Charlie Larkin
  25. Very nice Wayne. That looks about like the taupe/neutral interior of the mid-90s, colorwise, too. Charlie Larkin
