  1. I have an Aztek A320, and it's a very nice airbrush. They're around $60. The slightly less expensive Testors airbrush with the several interchangable nozzles might also be worth a look. I recommend very strongly finding a little extra money and getting one of the Testors Mighty Mini air compressors. They're aren't "cheap," at around $90, but they'll pay fort themselves very quickly in propellant. You might be able to find one on eBay for short money, or another small compressor. Another option is to buy a couple of inner tubes and make sure they're both full so you don't get caught by surprise. Charlie Larkin
  2. I like the basic execution. And for wood cabinets, just scribe, a little India ink or a liquid pen in the outlines, stain and you're done! Great idea. Charlie Larkin
  3. Have you considered checking eBay, Craigslist and your local shoppers as well as the want ad in your newspaper? A lot of times you can get near-new (or sometimes never even used!) tools for very, very short money. Charlie Larkin
  4. Looks like the only thing you need for a 99% stock model is narrow-band whitewalls; the steelies I can live with. Looks like a nice kit. Next time I have some money, I may go grab one. Charlie Larkin
  5. I wonder if the wide-block 318 in the '58 Plymouth will mate to the \6 transmission? I think they're the same externally. Charlie Larkin
  6. Ah...but even if progress is long in coming, watching it come on projects like this make it all the more worthwhile. This is very interesting. Charlie Larkin
  7. Nice builds, Chris. I like the SD/Ambulance. Charlie Larkin
  8. How did you make the Willys stock?! I need to figure out how to do this. Very nice dio, Ed. Charlie Larkin
  9. I like it! How did you get do the gravel coming out, mixing some with glue and spreading, or just filling the truck until you were satisfied with the amount there? Charlie Larkin
  10. Great build, Bill and a really good idea. I have a couple of questions. Foiling before painting. I have a couple of people that've said put the foil on before priming (which seems a bit odd to me,) and what I've usually tried, putting it on the primer. Which do you prefer? Acetone in paint? Aren't you a little concerned about it dissolving the model? I like that glue tip. I'll probably experiment with that a little to get the hang of it. Charlie Larkin
  11. Nice work, Ron. How did you polish out the windsheild? I have an SMP 1960 Valiant with a nasty scratch in it, and need to polish it out before I can build it. Charlie
  12. Speaking from experience of several friends with front-drive Cadillacs, I know they're capable of excellent gas mileage. 27-30 miles a gallon is reasonable; when people neglect the car or drive them like idiots, they get crappy mileage, but that could be anything. I had a 1994 Buick Le Sabre that was capable of 33 on the highway. That 3800 is one of the best engines GM ever came up with. Although I certainly wouldn't mind a Northstar-powered Cadillac or an Olds Aurora. Charlie Larkin
  13. While there are certainly a lot of cars that we may not see in plastic, the chance they could still happen is possible. Simply keep writing and asking. Round 2 and Lindberg both seem very receptive to customer input. Remember, though, if they make it, buy it! This didn't happen with a lot of kits there was huge modeler demand for, and it makes us a group look bad. Charlie Larkin
  14. Nice concept, especially with the lighting. Those promos are beautiful resorations, and that's a great way to display them! Gives me a few ideas, too. Charlie Larkin
  15. Thirteen and he did this? For a first shot, espcially given the deficit of experience his young age creates, I'd say he did a pretty good job with it overall. It's like anything else, Nick, keep practicing! Remember, you didn't get math (especially if you're like me,) the parts of grammar or a lot of science the first time through, either, but you have a decent start at a good concept! Keep working at it, we're all here to help you. Charlie Larkin
  16. *Rimshot* Nice work on the dio, by the way. Charlie Larkin
  17. Simply remarkable! This is one of the finest dioramas I've ever seen in any scale on any subject. Your garage is enviable, and I know plenty of model railroaders (like me,) who would love to make water like that. Charlie Larkin
  18. Nice work. The scene looks very realistic. Charlie Larkin
  19. Pittsfield...one of my favorite little cities in Massachusetts, especially near Rt. 7. I love how they've made so much progress in bringing it back to life. A very close friend lives in North Adams and I'm thinking of heading back out there in the next few months just to escape the South Coast and return to civilization. Besides, the employment situation can't be any worse! Prior to moving to New Bedford for work, I was living in Turners Falls, and had an opportunity to go to the Berkshires a couple of times for Masonic-related stuff and have been there a few times over the years just passing through or just to go see what was there to see. As a quick note, Classic Plastic is having their show October 4 over in Lawrence, it's usually a very good show with some excellent models on display. www.classicplastic.org Charlie Larkin
  20. I have an odd problem. I have a message showing "1 new message," but I don't seem to have a new message. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know what to do? Charlie Larkin
  21. I picked up an almost MIB up at Amherst (N.H.) in 2005 from Peter Schwartz. For $50 I got a pretty good deal. It has a few streaks of brush paint on it (which, looking at it, may have been attempts at matching factory colors, but there's no crazing, so it isn't automotive paint I don't think,) and one deep scratch in the glass I'm still working up enough nerve to try and remove. Worst case, I might try vacuum-forming a new piece. I'll be building mine stock, probably in white or silver, although I haven't ruled out black or red (I don't really care for the blue or green.) The other AMT compact I have is a 1961 Tempest that's a horror show; this is a 1/25 basket case! I'd like to find one of the Buick Special wagons, a Corvair and a 1960 Mercury Comet, as well. Charlie Larkin
  22. Very nice. I almost bought one of those kits a few years ago, but wasn't sure about the specs for making it U.S. How did you lower the roof? Looks great. I was also wondering, did you photo-reduce the plate or get one one of the decals I've seen pop up here and there? I have a green plate on my Caprice and plan on replicating that sometime soon. Greetings from New Bedford, where are you from? Charlie Larkin
