Very nice work so far. Nice colors, too. The blue vinyl top might be a bit light, but it's about the right shade for the interior. No matter, it'll look great finished. Charlie Larkin

I just picked up a '60 for a good deal at MassCar. It needs a windsheild frame and some chrome, along with a general total rebuild. Sitting in the freezer now in an attempt to debond it. I found a really nice '60 in what I think is Electric Blue. As horrid as it might sound, it actually looks quite sporty in an elegant way. I'll see if I can find the link again. Charlie Larkin

My suggestion: Badger 250 spray gun, about $25. Harbor Freight "pancake" air compressor, $40-50 with the coupon. Hose/air drier/fittings: about $20. You'll need a 1/4"-3/8" adapter for a Badger or Paasche, and a quick-connect for the compressor-to-drier connection. You're on your way. The 250 isn't fancy at all, but it's idiot-proof and works great for painting large areas. I also have a Paasche H I need to get a new needle and cone for. Nice airbrush, but they clog easily and can be a bit tough to clean from what I've seen. I like Steve's carb cleaner idea, I might try that. I've had good luck with back-flushing the airbrush, too. Put your finger on the nozzle, and start spraying. It'll flush the thinner through the airbrush completely. Take it apart to dry it and and wipe it down after, if you need to. If you get a Paasche or any Badger beyond a 250, I'd recommend doing that every time. Either way, you have a nice little compressor that can do all kinds of stuff around the house for short money. I've been using Testors gold, steel, or aluminum, depending on what appears to be more "right," and I'm happy with the results I get. Charlie Larkin

I always soak resin. I hate paint problems. Charlie Larkin -
I've been using the Testors clear parts cement for a while and I really like it. Charlie Larkin

The screws I've pulled out are a strange design- knurled instead of threaded. Worked better with plastic? I've wondered because I haven't the foggiest where to get those and I don't want to put old, rusty screws but into my rebuilt glue bombs I invest a lot of time cleaning up. Anyone know a good screw size that works well? Charlie Larkin

Starting a project... Shelf of Chevy!
charlie8575 replied to DaveM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've thought of similar projects over the years, and might actually get around to one of them. One note on the '56 Del Ray, I don't believe that color scheme would've been available on that because none of the interiors went with it. An interior color guide is here. http://www.classicchevy.com/chevy-interior-package-kit-delray-2-door-sedan-1956.html I'm doing mine in India Ivory/Tropical Turquoise (mid-year replacement for Twilight Turquoise, and also the time the white/turquoise interior was dropped, but I'd be willing to bet one or two cars were done like that from the factory.) P. 606 contains all your two-tones. Look for either "210 Series" or model 1011A. http://www.danchuk.com/images/Downloads%5CCatalog%5C2015-Catalog-33%5C17-Original-Specifications.pdf I think India Ivory/Dusk Plum or Crocus Yellow/Onyx Black with the ivory/charcoal interior would be rather striking. I have a can of that downstairs. I might use that for my car. Nice job on that. Charlie Larkin

Joe, where abouts are you located? I know a few Hobby Lobbys have come to New England, at those prices, it might be worth the trip from Boston's Metro-West if you're in Rhode Island, New Hampster or Holyoke. Charlie Larkin -

1/25 Revell Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon 2'n'1
charlie8575 replied to Matt T.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
For many years, cars 4 and 8 on the Marlborough Police department were wagons because they were also the ambulances. If I can figure out how to remove the side-trim neatly to make a Ranch Wagon, I'm thinking about trying it. Actually, in the 1950s, from what I understand, there were only three or four marked cruisers in the City, and all of them were Ranch Wagons. The Cheif had a black Ford Custom 4-door and the detectives had another black Ford for their use. Charlie Larkin -

Exactly, and as some companies only make cases, those firms would be unable to use pictures of their products in-service. Charlie Larkin -
Galaxie Limited's '48 Chevy Coupe
charlie8575 replied to lordairgtar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That would be a Dynamic Cruiser 76 (or 78 for an 8-cylinder car.) http://en.autowp.ru/picture/wncvnb Big car indeed- 125" wheelbase. http://classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=8714&year=1946&model=27641 That little Chevy would certainly provide a starting point, but wow is that going to be a lot of stretching. My suggestion would be to find a good side-shot that is absolutely dead-on straight, and using the known dimensions (wheelbase, height and overall length,) manipulate the several parts of the body appropriate as I think you'll also find you'll need to stretch the main body itself, as well. Technically, you'd also have to widen it 5/8 of an inch, but to do that would almost literally be splitting hairs. Handsome car. I also saw a picture of a 4-door fastback. Very nice-looking car, I wouldn't mind one of those at all. Charlie Larkin -

Jim, A. Do they still have any? B. Are you near one? C. Are you coming to NNL-East? If so, could you grab me 3 or 4? I'll pick-up/settle the tab with you there. Thanks. Charlie Larkin -

And they still had a longer wheelbase. Although, for whatever reason, www.oldcarbrochures.com is having problems with its database (a lot of problems it seems lately,) I looked at it for curiosity's sake because when I saw that '48 Ford withe Olds grille, I was toying with doing one- seriously. The "66" series, which was the A-Body, still had a 3 or 4-inch longer wheelbase than the comparable Chevy. Doing a little backdoor research, I find 1946-48 Chevy Fleetmaster Aerosedan: 116" wheelbase, OAL 197 3/4" Source: http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Chevrolet/1947_Chevrolet/1947_Chevrolet_Specifications/1947%20Chevrolet%20Specs-15.html 1946-48 Olds Special 66 Club Sedan (fastback): Wheelbase: 119", OAL: 204" Source: http://classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=6007&year=1946&model=27637 In short, doing this will require some pretty drastic surgery. I decided against it because, frankly, I didn't think I was up to it, but it can be done. Charlie Larkin -
Any chemists out there?
charlie8575 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's almost always the case. Charlie Larkin -
Honestly? I like the looks of it. If they used the bed dimension of the last generation El Cam (which wasn't all that much bigger than the present Camaro,) as the target, it would actually work pretty well. I wouldn't refuse one. If I had the money, I would've bought an SS-R, too. I always thought those were neat. Charlie Larkin

Like I've said about myself, cheap Armenian on my mother's side and cheap Scot/Acadian on my father's side. I was doomed from the start. Charlie Larkin
