  1. Thanks for the inspiration Niko and Rick. Excellent. Greg, there's a Gasser Wars DVD? I will now look for it. Thanks.
  2. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of realism I can muster if I start making my own phantom gassers, a la Doctor Cranky . . . I'm curious if any of you have done your own . . .
  3. Nah, I would never crush a model. I might feed it to the dogs! LOL! I hope to be back in business tomorrow. Tim, for a minute i thought I was looking at the fan on your ceiling, and then I realized it WAS your ceiling fan reflected off a mirror shine! Nice job.
  4. Lukee, when I started I made a 4oz bottle of india ink and water (or alcohol) and practiced on paper. There's really no cheap paint to practice on plastic with. You can perhaps try some of those cheap craftstore paints . . . and work on a scrap body.
  5. Thanks, this is a great start. Very informative links.
  6. Here's a little vid I made that shows a variation of Donn's pipe nipple stand and some of the bodies that I have painted and are waiting the start of the building season! And other goodies too, including a cheers to all for a happy Holiday Season. Enjoy:
  7. I love it, three kits to make one model. That's what I would call SEVERE STYRENE ADDICTION. LOVE IT! You have my undivided attention!
  8. Looks like a strip Monster! Very nice.
  9. I love the "new tooling" idea behind it. I see lots of gassers in our future!
  10. Okay, excuse me while I look for my eye balls for they just POPPED out of my head. WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gorgeous paint, and amazing (and unique) build.
  11. It's no secret that both EYEGORE and Doctor Cranky have lost their mind over early years Gassers. I've been reading up on those suckers since I got a whole bunch of great books (thanks DONN YOST!) and the pictures have me reeling. I have a few questions for you seasoned Gasser War vets . . . and those of you who lost your minds on the subject matter before I did. Can you share some of your expertise here (with eye candy to back it up, please). I am interested in particular in those models you might have built that never existed. I.e., Phantom Gassers. Are there rules to this? If I want to make up my own, how do I go about it. I got two sets of decals from Slixx that I am dying to use . . . . What do the number mean? The classes? Etc . . . for example, I know that the Mazmanian 41 Willyses were colored red, blue, BUT could you paint them in other colors. Please, let's make this thread a conversation about the specifics and the details . . . of EVERYTHING GASSER! Thank you in advance for your generous feedback and suggestion. Yours, Doctor Cranky!
  12. That's a great picture. A new generation of model builders in the making!
  13. But wait until you see the 69 NOVA I just painted. It's gassing out and should be ready for polishing on Monday. That's my consolation for what would have been a blow-out day.
  14. And you know, I only dropped the bodies into the Purple Bath because I had done a wonderful job of smoothing those puppies . . . normally I just get two new bodies and keep going, but I am running low on the 41 Willyses. Not throwing the out and not STOMPING on them either!
  15. Donn, just as you said in the vid: the fat fendered vehicles need to have paint in the seams . . . they paint pulled away and I ended up with light bands on the inside edges. The other thing that happened was that the flakes migrated toward the edges . . . the problem is I put too much paint on too fast. My fault. It's a learning process like everything else. Which is why I am viewing your vids for the 14th time! LOL!
  16. One word: SLAMMED. Beautiful, that's another word that comes quickly to mind. Good work.
  17. Wonderful, you finished it. Beautiful results!
  18. That looks wonderful. It's a great model. I'm working on a few right now.
  19. Well, I've got the two 41 Willys in the Purple Bath right now. They didn't turn out the way I wanted so in they went. So it goes. Which is what makes painting so much fun, I think.
  20. Neat little subject.
  21. I'm liking this already. Keep it going.
  22. Sometimes it just helps to put it away for a while or simply walk away . . .
  23. Been there done that, I prefer to support my local hobby shop. Sorry, but that's how I feel.
  24. Folks, what an amazing thread, another great line up of killer models. Wow. What inspiration. Thank you.
