GM on the critical list
James Flowers replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One thing that would save money on every car or truck, is make more parts interchange on their cars and trucks. You have 4,5 and 6 lug wheels on cars and trucks choose one for cars one for trucks, wheels too many wheel combinations on cars or trucks. Radios why four or five choices just put the best in and stop making the rest. Most people change the radios and wheels on their cars anyway. The after market will take care of radio and wheel choices they always have. Brakes make only four wheel disc then you can stop making drums for the rear. Their is just so many little things that could call for just one part to fit all. Another way too increase mileage is to put better flowing exhaust systems on cars and trucks it has been proven over and over by the after market . Free flowing air filters. Who cares if Aunt May and uncle Joe here a little air noise under their hood or out their tailpipe. Make transmissions shift a little harder instead of slipping for that butter smooth shift. Just a few of my thoughts. -

Man I find this water cooler talk very interesting. I only wish they would wake up in Washington D.C. and due what they are elected too due, look out for the good of all. -

That is the first thing I tell folks when they come to my house for the first time. I have still had boneheads pick them up anyways. They learn real quick to never do it again. My son and wife never touch them either. I know the feeling of a broken model from numskulls that won't listen. -

I agree totally neither party has done anyone justice. I have said all along no bail outs let them all sink. Those GM, Ford and Chrysler folks can go too work for Toyota or Honda as they would just become bigger without our big three in the picture. Like some have said car companies have died off before and the others took up the slack . I hope I have not made you or anyone else mad at Me that is not my intent. -

Hit a nerve did it. The truth is what it is, the Republicans had six years to change it and they DID NOT DO IT. END OF story. -

The Republicans were in charge for six years and what did they do about it? They could have changed it anytime they wanted in those six years. Bill Clinton might have signed the bill. But do you really think He meant for banks too loan money to folks that could not afford to pay back a loan at all ? -

I believe that A Republican President called for this bail out. That is what I seen on TV and heard on the radio. The House and senate Are not fully controlled by Democrats it still takes cross over votes to pass a bill. I also seen that the Republicans in the House and Senate voted for the bail out. Did they not? I think so. So don't just blame the Democrats for this mess. -

Has anyone heard about the car that runs on compressed air That a French guy is putting into production? I seen it in Auto Weekly I believe that is the name of the magazine. The air tanks are made of carbon fiber so they will not explode in a accident . I remember it said that with a on board compressor it could go 800 miles on one gallon of gas. Now if He can do that what else can be done ? I for one can not understand why they can not put alternators on all four axles of a car and recharge the batteries as you drive. I don't think it would be that hard to figure out a gear ratio to keep the alternators at the right output as you drive down a freeway. -

My 69 Sportroof had a 351 Windsor 4 barrel, 4 speed with traction lock rear end. The coupe had a 302 two barrel and automatic. -

Finally someone that sees it the way I see it. Seams that a lot of folks on here have blinders on and just love too give are money away to folks that won't change their ways anyhow. When a company is run into the ground from poor management lets reward them for it. I think not. The first thing they should do is strip all CEO's and the board members of their assets and cash . They are the ones that never lose anything ,no punishment or consequence for their bad decisions. I think if that were implemented We would not see this happen very much. -
I agree that is one sweet build. That six under the hood is a pleasant surprise .

The old saying is build it and they will come. The trouble is they built it and no one wanted it. I don't want to see any of the car companies go out of business . They never listen to their customers and what they want. What point do we no longer except their excuses for poor performance and say no more welfare for corporations ? Yes there would be a huge job losses if they went under and that would be sad. These companies know because there are so many jobs on the line that we will bail them out. I think it is time we say no to them. Who bails you out when you don't do your job and lose your income? Please tell us why you will not buy a American car gasman. You will probably make my point for not buying American. -
We have a spreader like that on our truck at the school system I work for. I like what you did to the truck as in the dually bed it is a nice touch. Did you scratch build the salt spreader ? I would say you did and it looks right on.
