How do you prep tire sidewalls?
chris02719 replied to Speedfreak's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've had good luck using a small sandblaster that I believe badger made. Someone suggested it to me a while ago, and I must say it works really well. It gets into places that sandpaper just doesnt, I had a set of tires that had parts of the mold seam running between the treads and looked like garbage, but the mini blaster got right in there and cleaned everything right up. Hope this helps. -
Thanks guys. I figured you guys would have a lot of great ideas. My modeling mission this week is to get some decent tweezers.

I am having a tough time finding any sort of really good tweezers. Most of the ones I can find ate either bent out of the package or have some other form of defect which prevents them from being any good for what I need them for. Where do you guys get yours? I'd rather get something quality that will last me a while then some cheap ones which will get all jacked up and ruin a project. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm thoroughly confused -
I'm starting to think that the reason counterfeiting has slowed down isn't due to the treasury departments efforts but due to the fact that with the price of printer ink it's almost a break even proposition.

Such a bummer: Chinese-built Craftsman tools.
chris02719 replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The tape measures and select other tools like the 10 in 1 screw driver are no longer warrantied even though the ones I had both said they were right on the tool itself, which is the reason I had gotten them in the first place. I have since stopped buying their tools for the shear fact they don't last, and I can get better stuff for the same price. Especially when I take into account that using these tools is how I make my living. -

Yeah their tools are definitely not what they used to be, and some of it, despite the warranty that came with them when first purchased aren't warrantied anymore. So they'll exchange it once, but "never again" which is awesome considering the junk they give you as a rwplacement. -
As a licensed electrician I am always amused by the people who ask for wiring help from the 18 year old kid at the depot or lowes. And by amused I mean scared. If you have to ask some of these questions you should probably leave the job to someone qualified so your home doesn't end up a charred pile of rubble.

Wow, nice looking rig. You don't see too many of these as a model. I am looking forward to seeing this come together. Great job so far. Keep up the good work. -

Resin casting parts - legal?
chris02719 replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm pretty sure that every model kit I've ever seen has a copyright, and thus I'm pretty sure you shouldn't be casting exact copies of any parts in said kits. I'm pretty sure in general that you shouldn't cast someone else's work and claim it as your own especially for a profit. I am not a lawyer and there are probably loopholes to this, but I believe that is the gist of the rules. This topic has probably been covered numerous times, try a Google search. -

Does anyone have a good match to an oxblood red paint for interiors? Also does anyone know if this color was available on a '96ish paystar? Kicking options around. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks chris

Looks awesome so far. The bed looks spot on so far. I wonder if someone out there has copied the matchbox f350 in resin. If I see anything out there I will be sure and send the info your way. Anyways, looking forward to seeing more. chris -
