  2. Very interesting stories of your experiences. I'm glad we don't have any unstable people in our club (or at least they are taking their meds) Wow! I'll bet your winning of that trophy was just as much a source of pride for your father as well as you. I don't know if any of those cartoons ever were printed in their newsletter. If they were, that's prety cool. They were about his computerized Riviera project where I depicted Mark as an android with his programming mixed up between modeler and lawyer. The other I did had the Riv hooked up to this huuuuuge mainframe. Someone else did one as well. I no longer have those copies of the magazine, so I can't even reference them.
  3. Fires are my main fear too. When I lived in Santa Barbara, I worked and lived at the Drug Abuse Preventive Center. A resident, who was given certain privileges because of his length of staying with the program was told one night he could not stay out later than the curfew time. He was upset with this and got out the gas we kept for the mower and poured it all over the living room and dining area. We were all asleep when he did it. We awoke to the sound of breaking glass and neighbors yelling to wake us up. Staff and residents all lived on the second floor. Since I was staff, I had an efficiency apartment attached to the house with my own entrance. After trying to get into the main part of the building and trying to get people out, I couldn't see through the smoke and retreated back through my apartment and down the back stairs. I escaped with only my pants and T-shirt, no shoes. Two people died, a recovering alcoholic and a staff person. I heard the screaming of those guys. Other residents got out by jumping out the front windows, one broke his ankle and it never healed right. The house was a total and we all were homeless then. The person who started it was caught and is still serving time as far as I know.
  4. Wow, I've heard of stuff like that happening but never from an actual recipient of it. WOW! I've seen parents like that on the athletic fields. I've lost contests, but I just studied the winning models when I was a kid. I have a couple of trophies, but nothing like your accomplishments. When I did some cartoons for Car Modeller (Model Behavior), I poked some fun at Mark Gustavson and those cartoons are in Salt Lake. He asked the editor if I would send him the originals. He sent me back a nice letter and some slide pics of his Mercari. Coolness.
  5. Just keep an eye out, dude. I used to live in Santa Barbara.
  6. Your right Harry, I know that they would have to redo any tooling just to be compatible with a modern mold machine like a Van Dorn or similar. I'll bet the old machinery they used (if we knew what manufacturer) doesn't exist. I know our company has an old mold machine that we keep together with spit and a prayer. Does any body know what brand mold machine Johan used? Was it similar to what AMT used in Troy? Since AMT (RC2, Round 2, Model King) re released a lot of real old tooling, it might be possible.
  7. OK, I shouldn't have said idiot, that on my part was wrong and I apologize. However, the fact remains that if the guy was 5'9" and 120 lbs, it would not have been mentioned. Also, I am very non-violent and I haven't been in a fight since high school in the early 70s. I think my temper is very well controlled. I stated an opinion I had of your post and used very descriptive phraseology. That in no way is meant to imply I would lose my temper. And no, I will not ignore your posts because there is good stuff in them.
  8. No, I don't think I want to undertake that project. Too rare, and if I break or fudge a part, I have no recourse to replace it. Sorry.
  9. It's comments like that that make my blood boil. Who the heck are you to assume that just because the guy was fat that he was a clumsy oaf? If that were the case, all my models would be broken as I am a 409 lb. person. Maybe the guy should have never touched the car (I wouldn't have) but you should not make those assumptions. Small bits of plastic are fragile and can suffer damage under any handling. If the guy was thin, would you have mentioned his weight? Idiot!
  10. Wow, might be cutting it a bit close. To do it right, it takes a bit of time. I live about 89 miles from Chicago but I think I could not get it done in that short period of time what with the day job and all. Working with a rare piece like that would make me nervous. My own, yes...somebody elses, No.
  11. Looked at the same type vehicle today whilst at the doctor's office. Here in the US we get those as a Dodge badged vehicle. We also have the Mercedes version. Mercedes Benz used to own Chrysler for a bit.
  12. OK, are you going to rent a car while in Chicago? If you are or have access to one, I would suggest coming north a bit to Milwaukee. We have a couple of good ones up here. Greenfield News and Hobby on 68th and Layton avenue. Model Empire on 72nd and Greenfield avenue, both close to the Interstate. Milwaukee is 89 miles north of Chi-town. Kenosha has Don's Hobbies but I don't know the exact street it's on and Kenosha is between Milwaukee and Chicago
  13. Gregg, I think you need to send Danno and Novadose their money.
  14. Austin A 30 from 1954
  15. Sure are a lot of those ramblers around for sale cheap (relatively) I've been buying up 64 and up promos and old builds with the idea of kit bashing with the better detailed chassis. Seeing as the bumpers really didn't change throughout that cars lifespan, I save on purchasing from Modelhaus too.
  16. The below text is a message I got today about Johan. OK. First off, please accept my apologies for not posting in a few days. As many of you know I do magazine articles to supplement my disability income. I have not read all of the posts yet, but judging by the ones I have read, it is being said that JoHan is 'dead in the water'. Please Do Not Give Up The Ship Yet. I am not at liberty to discuss the exact situation of what occured with Okey; however, I can say this much.... I spoke with Okey on the phone on Wednesday the 22nd and he told me that he is 'Free and clear to find a building now and centralize JoHan's operations.' He has told me he is looking once again for that building now that the legal matters are settled. I have begun listing items for him on eBay and have been doing searches for him for photoetch items for the new releases. So unless something bad has occured since I last spoke with Okey, the details I have point to JoHan being 'Alive and Kicking' or to use the name of this group... JoHan Models is being RESURRECTED. 17. As much as I hear people wanting anything AMC, I would think the AMX would be a good on. The Cuda and Maverick would sell too. But of course these appeal to us older guys and not so much to the young'ns. I think there are quite a bit of S/C Ramblers out there. They seem to go rather inexpensively when I see them.
  18. On the Johan Resurrected board, someone spoke with Okey yesterday and he says it's the first time he's heard about this. Apparently, someone started a rumor and it took off. I have to agree with George 53, don't sell goofy resin cast parts that can't be fixed or used. If you want to sell the bodies, fine, those are pretty good.
  19. Fix the bike, dump the GF, You'll be happier.
  20. I just wanted to post a news item. I'm sorry i started a rant of Okey. I go home now, K Bye.
  21. Just found out on another forum that the bank has foreclosed on the remaining assets of Johan from Mr. Okey. I do not know of the veracity of this, but I will monitor it and keep you abreast of the details. If those with other model firms can research this and maybe obtain what's left...it might be a good thing.
  22. This was common with the old school department stores, Macy's, Hudson's, Boston Store, Gimbel's and Schuster's.
  23. We are Borg, You will be assimilated. your thoughts, your conciousness, will be added to our own. Resistance is futile, You will comply
  24. You got a cool dad.
  25. I will always look at that beautiful picture on that Revell kit of that 1957 Nomad on the beach with those cropped in black and white chrome reverse rims off of Bob's own Rambler with fond memories. Art, you write eloquently of an awesome personality.
